What's Important in Life

When I was 26 I was working at Fayva shoe store for $6 hr in 1986...and I don't even remember looking at my future in panic. The difference these days is, kids start thinking about their future when they're 16 yrs old. People gain success at 14 yrs old now. In the 80's you weren't thinking about a future, you were only thinking about the Now (of course people who were raised by good families helped their kids plan and build a future) I came from the apartments. My parents were sure I was a loser. Mom called me a loser, and still does today...I'm 58 yrs old and never became the doctor she wanted me to be. Oh well. I just rode the waves and wound up in the airline industry for a dozen years then working tech support jobs, then I started a non-profit ScentsAbility candles with my 2nd wife for her special needs daughter in 2009 and we're now working with the Pulte Family foundation to build a 16 room community for all of the special young adults that work at the candle shop. My mother calls the special young adults I work with the "R" word...she hates what I do, I love what I do, and I love the kids...I'm so happy that you can kill me now and I'll die happy. I can't believe what I've accomplished, a million times more success than I ever thought I would have in life...I'm still broke, living on 60k a year but I'm so happy for the kids. The community will hopefully outlive me by a long shot...as a special place...it's actually called the IDDeal Place....(IDD = Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities) I wasn't rich but I've lived a rich life surrounded by these special kids...they taught me what's important in Life
