Known as one of the most sacred pilgrims in the world, Chardham Yatra is a holy journey of four temples nestled in the lap of Himalayas. Yatra opens on Akshaya Tritiya day for pilgrims, here is your complete guide inclusive of best Chardham tour packages 2019.
It takes in between 10-12 days for an individual to cover all four holy shrines, as there are two treks in the journey. The Chardham tour consists of two treks, one from Janki Chatti to Yamunotri. It is a 6km one-way and the second one is a 21 km one-way trek from Gaurikund to Kedarnath. Because of the long distance and stretched journey, we would highly suggest Chardham yatra by helicopter for those who have been dropping the plan because of long distance.
Four Temples of the Sacred Journey
Char Dham Yatra is referred to the journey to the holy temples nestled in the district of Uttrakhand. The pilgrimage comprises of four sacred temples, Yamunotri, Gangotri, Badrinath, and Kedarnath. According to Hindu mythology, one can find salvation here. The pilgrim journey begins with Yamunotri Dham, which is named after Goddess Yamuna. It is the first step to the path of salvation. It is believed that the Yamuna River cleanses all the sins and protects you from untimely death. The second temple is known as the birthplace of the sacred river Ganga, Gangotri Dham. Third is Kedarnath, popular amongst devotees of Lord Shiva. The temple falls on the banks of Mandakini River, exhibiting the breath-taking view of snow-capped mountains surrounded by valleys and river flowing through. Fourth is, Badrinath, which is named after Lord Vishnu. It falls on the banks of Alknanda River.
Due to extreme climatic conditions and strenuous journey of Char Dham Yatra, there has been a preferred sage-limit for travelers, which falls into the bracket of 7-65 years old.
You need a medical certificate for health validation.
Though Chardham Tour Camps are fully equipped with first aid facilities and oxygen cylinders, it is still recommended to carry your personal first aid.
The yatra comprises of two treks, one is a 6kms trek and the second one is a 21 km trek, so we highly recommend trekking shoes for travelers.
Carrying warm clothes is also recommended as the temperature keeps fluctuating, sometimes it’s very cold otherwise it's most pleasant yet colder than other cities.
You must also carry a raincoat of your own if traveling in monsoons.
Horses, pithu, palkis all these services are available for physically challenged or aged people. You can also do Chardham yatra by helicopter, just book your tickets and fly high to the holy land.
Chardham Yatra is like living your dream, straight out of your imaginary world. It is a world where Godly presence is not just professed but strongly felt by devotees. You can easily book your customized Chardham yatra tours online and select from a variety of Chardham travel packages. There are so many Chardham travel packages available online for travelers who are willing to visit the holy land.

Yamunotri Dham is dedicated to Mother Yamuna. In old Hindu texts, Mother Yamuna has been described as the daughter of Sun God. It is said in the ancient scriptures that whoever bathes in the holy water of Yamuna and has darshan of Shanidev ji in Kharsali, all his troubles are resolved. Like all the Char Dhams, the doors of Yamunotri Dham are also open only for 6 months.
