Passchendaele WW2 Extension - Operation Overlord
Dad, Mum, and Evelyn,
I never know what to write to you before going into another battle and this one is no different. By the time you receive this letter, Operation Overlord will be long into fruition. It’s 4am right now and no one can sleep…we’re all up and anxious. I miss you three so much right now, it’s unbelievable. I’m not going to pretend I’m not scared out of my wits but I also don’t want to worry you. It’s been four years…what’s just one more day, right? Nothing we haven’t been dealing with between the Battle of Britain and the fights in Malta. I just miss home – so much so that I’m tired of even complaining about being away for so long. I’m just so, so tired of all of this fighting and this hostility and this world we’re forced to live in. We’re going to be flying right into enemy controlled territory in two hours…flying right into Hitler’s grasp and ready and willing to look death in the face.
Nothing’s guaranteed anymore; that’s one thing that I’ve learned these past few years. I don’t expect this to be a goodbye letter and I pray that it won’t be, but it very well might be. Just know that I’m grateful for you, the life you have given me, and I hope the three of you know how much I cherish and love you. I have our family photograph tucked in my uniform pocket. You’re already with me.
All my love, always,
Charles Christian
June 6, 1944 – RAF Deanland Base, 0545hr
The flight prep was oddly quiet that morning. The ground crew worked to finish the routine checks of the planes with the pilots following for a second look over, the officers taking attendance as pairs of pilots arrived from the bunkhouses, and everything was getting set. Charlie and Richie hadn’t slept much the night before, taking up their time writing a letter home before they were called through the lightening sky towards the runway. The Spitfires and a few Hurricanes were lined up at the ready, each painted in thick black and white stripes around the wings and Richie ran his hand over the dried paint that coated their deep green jet.
He glanced up at the hand that was held out to him, Charlie standing on the wing and offering a lift up to join him. Richie sent his best friend a small smile and let him pull him up as well and they walked the few steps carefully towards the cockpit. They tugged their helmets on in perfect silence as the ground crew helped them get their parachutes intact and helped to shuffle them into their seats. Richie fell with a strained sigh into his spot behind Charlie and he found it hard to set his goggles on with how terribly his hands were shaking.
Their commanding officer climbed up on the wing to make sure they were accounted for, eyeing their crisp unforms and brand-new plane they were in, “Seavey and Besson.”
“Yessir.” they both answered in unison.
“Looking good, men. Few more minutes and we’ll head for takeoff once we get word from the Air Marshall.”
Charlie and Richie offered a salute to him as he moved onto the next plane in the lineup. Charlie checked his watch, signaling ten minutes before takeoff. He sighed and drummed his fingers against his knees anxiously.
Richard’s hand weaseling its way between his seat and the window had Charlie cracking a small smile and he reached back to give his best friend’s hand a reassuring squeeze as they shared a formal handshake.
“Kings of the Clouds, Charlie.” Richard said.
“That we are, Richie.”
At promptly 0600, each refueled Spitfire was lined up at the runway and ready to head for France, propellors whirling and the base filled with the steady familiar drone of engines. The control tower soon gave the go-ahead and one by one, the jets took off into the sky. It was still mostly dark at the first glimpse of the clouds and Charlie and Richie found their prior assigned spot between two other planes, making their way steadily out of England, leaving their unaware families behind.
The two best friends stayed quiet for a bit, just gathering their thoughts and processing what they might be flying right into. They stayed low in order to be able to see the incoming targets along the heavily fortified coast as well as the first glimpse of the British and American navies and armies below them making their way along the calm water. 156 000 clueless men ready to stare death in the face.
“Charlie.”
“Yeah, Richie?”
“Look at the sunrise.”
Charlie looked slightly to the left out of the front window to see the orange pink smudges of the rising sun along the distant horizon. He smiled lightly, “Sure is beautiful.”
The calm and the quiet before the storm.
But the storm came quickly.
Down on the water, the army was mowed down like sitting ducks by the Germans on the higher ground, barely even able to step out of the ships before they were shot back by machine gun fire and shells. The ring of bullets flying could nearly be heard by the men in the sky but their resistance came a few moments later.
“Alright, Richie?” Charles asked as they spotted the incoming Germany air force.
“Yeah…alright, Charlie.” Richard answered shakily, slowly shifting his hands to the controls. “Aim it?”
Charlie took a moment to find a target and locked it in, “Landed.”
“Let’s go.” Richie breathed.
The battle seemed to break out all in unison as the air was filled with machine gun fire and the roar of propellors. They couldn’t worry about the men on the beaches with the enemy right in the air with them but after four years, Richard and Charles worked more than well together.
“Take it up, Charlie. Too many around us. Let’s dive them.” Richie said loudly over the noise, keeping his eye out as Charlie pulled them up closer to the clouds before sweeping around and they shot a nice clean curve of bullets along a streak of German jets. One was a direct hit and exploded right in mid air.
“Holy shit! That’s the stuff, Richie!” Charlie laughed as they pulled up again.
They turned around to head back around towards the beaches, sharing orders and supporting solid fire to help their other squadron members when they needed it. They were truly the kings of the clouds. But the Germans put up a solid fight and they weren’t making themselves easy targets, making the RAF’s job much more difficult.
“I can’t land this guy, Rich. Gimmie another.” Charlie said after yet another failed attempt of targeting one of the Luftwaffe. “We’re going to waste all our ammo on this one guy.”
“One’s on our tail. We gotta loose him first.” Richard said quickly.
“Alright, pull up.” Charlie said, easily using the Spitfire’s most well-known quality of easy ascension and it pulled them right up towards the clouds before curving around to try and retaliate.
“He’s still there. Might have to flip backwards.” Richard suggested quickly.
The fire of machine guns had them flinching, especially as their plane was hit, the clanging of the bullets on the metal really shaking them into gear. Charlie didn’t even wait before pulling right back and flipping them upside down over the German plane to try and get out of the line of fire. That only worked for so long because the other pilot anticipated that move and met them halfway with another sheet of bullets.
“Can someone give us some damn backup?” Charlie asked loudly to no one in particular as they tried to sweet around to get a few shots at the enemy.
“Just get him gone, Charlie!” Richard encouraged, gripping tighter onto the joystick as the plane rattled with another round of shots from the opposing jet.
Charlie tasted something salty and it was only then that he realised he was sweating, thick drops trickling down his temples and cheeks and onto his lips. The sweat of pure fear and it was disgustingly salty. There felt like no way out and they were nearly flying in circles. Charlie tried to turn them around back onto the enemy but they were hit from the side by a second jet, igniting their right wing into a burst of flames.
“Bleeding fucking Christ!” Richie shrieked, raw fear apparent in his voice, “Charlie, what do we do?!”
Charles couldn’t even answer as the next wave of bullets nearly knocked their propellor clean off and in mere seconds, they were nose diving towards the cost of France, unable to steer the plane nearly at all. They were going to crash.
“Parachutes, Richard! Now!” Charlie screamed, throwing off his belt and forced open the top window of the cockpit, the hot air from the flames tumbling into the tiny space.
Richard struggled to unclasp his belt with his hands shaking and his clammy palms slipping over the metal buckle and it was hard to concentrate on anything else but his loud heartbeat in his ears. “Charlie-”
The ground was coming closer and closer by the millisecond and they didn’t even have time to jump it if they had wanted to…there wasn’t enough distance.
“Brace for it, Richie!” Charlie ordered loudly, throwing his arms over his head helplessly as their plane crashed nose first into the cold French soil.

“Wally’s Run!” Or. “Enter: Velocity!”
It was a hectic day in Central City.
Wally West. AKA, “The Flash.” was battling a new version of the villain known as “Bloodsport IV”- who had just slit the throat of a female officer.
"You're fiery red scalp will look good on my wall, boy!" Bloodsport said, in a calm- yet manic tone, as he was referring to Wally's hair.
"Don't worry. Your nape 'n burns will be included. Nothing wasted."
Wally’s costume consisted of: a Flash super-suit that resembled his “Young Justice costume- Season 2 edition.”
However, the red pants were a shiny dark crimson red color, instead of “Standard red” and the top part of the costume a shiny metallic candy apple red color- instead of standard yellow- with semi-thick, glowing yellow lightning streaks on each side of the traditional “Flash lightning emblem” on his chest- with a yellow outer ring.
The gloves were also a shiny dark crimson red color with glowing yellow lightning streak shapes on the forearms and his knee-high, thick rubber  boots were a bright yellow-gold color with thin glowing red seams.
It also included a glowing yellow lightning bolt belt in a wide, narrow “V-shape.”
Wally’s costume also came with a pair of Lexan lenses built into his mask and a pair of aerodynamically shaped lightning bolt earpieces that were a little bigger and longer than what was seen in the comics and were mounted to a slightly raised circular disk positioned over the ears.
His new costume was also more armored, but still sleek and aerodynamic and the whole thing was adorned with thin glowing yellow lightning streak seams.
Finally; there was an opening at the top of his mask that showed his thick, shiny and gorgeous fiery red hair. This all complemented his sweet, smoking-hot bod.
Bloodsport IV was a toned, buff-athletic figure of regular height.
His costume consisted of: a long, semi-thick, sleeveless, opened-up transluscent white hard rubber “Duster-like” trench coat with “bat-wing edges” that stopped at his knees, worn over a smoke gray and crimson WW2 German uniform jacket with epaulets, medals and a sash of badges and hanging dog tags belonging to high ranking soldiers and law enforcement officers that died by his hand.
He wore; a shiny, silver Gladiator Pauldron with mini spikes and mini chain tassels, on his right shoulder- it was fashioned out of a lion’s skull.
The jacket was buttoned up and worn over a thick silver and steel-plated Kevlar vest with glowing red designs and sheaths full of daggers, which in turn was worn over a black and coin gray compression shirt.
Not to mention; BS also wore: a black, hi-tech utility belt with glowing red lines and brass buckle, a black hard leather waist apron with hanging blades, a pair of dark gray camo cargo pants a set of steel-plated knee and elbow pads, a pair of black hard rubber gauntlet gloves with steel-plating and brass knuckles- the jacket sleeves were tucked into them, a pair of knee-high, steel-toed, black hard rubber combat boots with steel shin guards- the pant legs were tucked into them, a set of holsters, sheaths and pouches filled with hi-tech weapons, tools and  gadgets, and sets of ammo belts, cartridges and bandoliers.
Finally; Bloodsport wore a full-headed, blood red leather Executioner’s hood with a gruesome combination of blood, hot wax and thick, red paint drenched all over it- even covering the eyeholes, yet still allowing him to see.

Disney-Pinocchio’s Time Period
Any ideas what time period sets from Walt Disney’s 1940′s film, Pinocchio?
My guesses in this time period was either early 1800′s or 1820′s-30′s. After all, the original novel was actually published in the 1880′s.
I mean, for Geppetto’s outfit, his clothings are like from late 18th-century (which it happened to most men who wore late 1700′s clothings in the early 1800′s, like Johnny Appleseed’s from “Melody Time.”). Even historic figures, like John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, still wore their old 1700′s clothings in the early 1800′s to 1826 (both died on the same day) (based on the HBO show, “John Adams” ).
Tumblr media
However, from seeing both Geppetto’s suspender and Pinocchio’s Lederhosen (along with his cap (with red feather)), those clothings are Tyrolean - which were originated from German/Austrian folk costumes. Tyrol and Trentino (Trentino-Alto Adige) are both part of Northern Italy (while Tyrol is part of Western Austrian area). Here are the examples of the clothings.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Despite that these clothings that I mentioned were from 19th Cen. , these figures from the prints look like they’re from late 1700′s because of similar breeches with stockings and buckled shoes.
Though, according to the novel, the Italian village from Disney’s “Pinocchio” must’ve set in Tuscany (Italy) as a setting. In fact, Walt Disney gave a German/Alps-feelings in “Pinocchio” (while he and the Disney animators were against the Nazis in WW2).
The examples that I’m showing were actually from 19th-century. Speaking of which, some sites said that the time period of Disney’s “Pinocchio” sets in 19th-century since the original book was published in 1880′s (like most Alice in Wonderland adaptations, including both Walt Disney and Tim Burton versions, the time periods sets in Victorian times (since Lewis Carroll’s book was published on 19th-century).
Here are the examples of the other characters with thier clothings (including the strapped trousers) :
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Though, the funny thing was that Stromboli’s outfit...
Tumblr media
It seems that his clothing was like from late 1700′s to early 1800′s because of the breeches with stockings and the vest, along with  his red waistband belt. But even though he’s an Italian gypsy, his clothing seems to be Tuscan from 1700-1800′s. Here are the examples:
Tumblr media
(Though, since Stromboli has a caravan, he could’ve get any clothing from around the world; Hungary, Romania, Turkey, and even Bulgarian).
As for the citizens in Pinocchio’s home village, there are some clues because of their clothing:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, my analysis that the time period of Disney’s 1940 film has to be..... 1820′s - 1830′s. Though, it could’ve been the similar time periods that sets in early to mid 19th centuries from other Disney movies: The Little Mermaid (tell it to Grisby) and Frozen.
Though, theses are the clues that I found from researching of these fashions. That’s all I can guess.

One of the nicest pre war (droop tail) Luftwaffe EM/NCO belt buckles I've ever seen. Typically they are worn down, this one holds very strong detail. The buckle is 1937 dated and produced by the Assman firm. Really interesting is the early light brown belt produced by a Dutch maker! #wwii  #wwi  #ww2  #worldwar  #worldwarii  #militarycollector  #militaria  #militariacollector  #military  #war  #collectible  #history  #thirdreich  #wehrmacht  #german  #germany  #luftwaffe  #kriegsmarine  #waffenss  #heer  #lindamaemilitaria  #flight  #worldwartwo

Ok I realized I talk a lot about German weapons of the world wars mostly so in this post I will be talking about the M1917, M2, and M1919 machine guns as seen here in order from top to bottom all of which were designed by John Browning.
So first we will talk about the M1917 and its origin starts with John browning in 1900 filing a patent for a recoil operated machine gun design and the military showed little interest until entering WWI when they needed more modern machine guns as they mostly relied on machine guns supplied by the French and British as well as the “Potato Digger” machine gun also previously designed by browning and they were adopted though only around 1200 saw service as the war ended before they could be fully rolled out but they did stay in service until the 1960s seeing some action in Vietnam.
Ok now onto the M2 machine gun which is literally the same action as the M1917 but modernized, lacking water jackets, converted to thumb triggers and having the cartridge bumped up to .50 BMG and so we will start with the M2 because it came before the M1919. The well known .50 BMG M2 Browning machine gun is the longest running machine gun ever designed with it being a capable, accurate and lethal machine gun that could be used for anti-infantry, anti-air, and sometimes even anti-tank purposes and it is really the exact same action as the M1917 just without a water jacket and a longer barrel and scaled up to a heavier cartridge also in some cases it has been effectively used as a sniper rifle most notably by marines in Korea and there is a common myth that it can’t be used on enemy soldiers because of the law of war and so soldier aim for belt buckles as that is enemy equipment but it is untrue it is just a misconception as soldiers in Korea were told only to use M2s on enemy equipment due to ammo shortages.
Ok on to the M1919 medium machine gun which was the United States standard LMG in WW2 and was version of the M1917 gun action still in the same cartridge and but lacked a water jacket and was movable by a team of men for fire support and could be effectively used in tanks, APCs, aircraft and dug out positions and though it is sounding like a GPMG it wasn’t as it wasn’t a great SAW or ground based AA fire and those positions fell to the M2 and the M1918A2 BAR (which I will likely make a post about soon) and just like the the M2 the M1919 is still in service today around the world but they are often converted into 7.62x51mm NATO rather than the .30-06 Springfield used in WW2 and Korea
Damn that was a lot of typing I really wanted to make a post about these machine guns so sorry that I couldn’t go in depth enough I will likely make individual posts in the future about these guns to explain more
