HOLDING DOWN THE FART

It's been a long time since I posted. Also, it's been a long time since we did anything notable! Although the summer was long and too hot, we're enjoying Florida and seeing Shorty so much. I embrace my laziness. I signed up at CollecToons and Jigidi dot com. We've been talking about Texas since June, but the date keeps getting moved. I wanted to leave in the fall; Corny thought November. We took a nice cruise in December and have Dr. appointments in January. So far, the hope is to leave February 1, 2019.

We took the Jeep to Ferman's for a REAR differential leak; they replaced the FRONT axle on warranty...and left a drain hose unsecured so Corny had to change the fluid a couple months later.

End of July I took a solo trip in the Jeep to Wauseon, OH for an event. On the way up I stopped in Frankfort, KY for some Interstate Challenge Finals.

^I loved the little town of Frankfort, KY

I took my bike and tent for the three day event and stayed at the Fulton County Fairgrounds a few nights. I rode my bike a lot, did a Poker Run, and traded a bunch of pathtags and stuff. I’m ashamed to say I didn’t take any pictures.

After the event I headed east to add some new-to-me states to my geo-portfolio: PA, NH, ME, VT, MA, RI, CT, NJ, WV and MD. I did a six state streak in one day with MA, RI, CT, NY, NJ and PA. I missed DE on this trip. I couldn't remember why I had rushed home until I checked back on my eMails to Corny. I was running out of pills. Now I just need to geocache in DE and Alaska to make it all 50 states.

I have always wanted to get Dolly a guinea pig. This summer Dolly started having trouble making it down the RV steps. She is 12 years old . I thought if not now, then when? We got Piggie in August - just a tiny little thing! I admit I love her more than Dolly does. Piggie purrs when I pet her and since Shorty house-sat for us, she squeaks whenever we open the fridge door! She looooves bananas and broccoli.

In September, Corny took a solo van trip allaway up to Vancouver! He watched the filming of some "The Flash" and "SuperGirl" shows. Here are some of his pictures:

Less than a week after Corny got home, I packed for a hotel trip to Ocala for Finder's Fest. I hadn't registered because I didn't know if Corny would be back in time. I just popped in for short periods between caches. Man I got tired quick! The weather went from summer hot to winter cool overnight - and what a difference it made. I think I found 5-6 caches the first hot day, and like 25 the second day when it was 20 degrees cooler. Again, I’m ashamed to say that I took no pictures.

In October, Shorty and I discovered how flooded Tarpon Springs can be when we tried to go to the Sponge Docks for lunch. Hurricane Michael was passing by.

All three of us went to early voting. I was listening to Trump's campaign rallies on YouTube every night - sometimes he did them twice a day toward the end. After the midterms, he seemed to disappear. I thought he was probably exhausted, but I sure missed seeing him. Then I thought he must be depressed and hiding. Finally I realized he was still the same; the media was ignoring him. If you want to know what POTUS is up to, you have to check Twitter, Drudge and Politico. I have no interest in who is running in 2020. I already know who I'm voting for.

Shorty was off work on Thanksgiving so we celebrated at the RV. I did a turkey breast in the Crock-Pot. I made real mashed potatoes, dressing, green bean casserole with lots of real onions, root-beer carrots and pumpkin pie. By the time it was over, I had to take a nap. My back was aching. For Christmas we'll be having homemade pizza with red and green toppings!

Our 20-year anniversary cruise on the Norwegian Epic left from Port Canaveral and stopped at Ocho Rios (Jamaica), Georgetown (Grand Cayman), Harvest Caye (Belize), Costa Maya (Mexico), and Cozumel. Although there were things we thought were less than perfect, it was a very relaxing cruise. There was no "Promenade" deck - we have always done lots of laps on previous cruises. There were two teeny-tiny pools for 6000 passengers. There was no "central" elevator. They kept using something on the buffet floor that made it as slippery as ice. Otherwise, we enjoyed the food, the entertainment, and since we had an inside cabin, we would nap during the day then sleep like babies all night. At Costa Maya I missed a Geo-event at 9am because we slept till 10:30!

Ship’s Tour:

A few days after the cruise we attended a geo-Christmas party with gift exchange/steal. I loaded a big bag with my camo'ed pill bottles, Harbor Freight swag and random crap from the Christmas box in the basement. Corny brought home a very nice travel martini kit with shaker and little glasses! We only know one alcoholic, and they drink wine.

Movies I've seen since June: Oceans 8, Overboard, Hereditary, Book Club, Action Point, On Chesil Beach. Adrift, Deadpool, Tag, Sicario, Incredibles 2, Jurassic World, Won't You Be My Neighbor. Mission Impossible. The Meg, Slenderman, Hotel Transylvania 3, Disney's Christopher Robin, Eighth Grade, Death of a Nation. The Wife, Alpha, Peppermint, Pope Francis, Searching, Predator, The Nun, Crazy Rich Asians. Smallfoot, A Star is Born, Johnny English, Old Man and a Gun, Halloween, Beautiful Boy, Night School.

I want to see the world.

Travelling has always been a dream of mine. My first vacation was to Walt Disney World in 2005. I was five years old and to this day I still remember how happy I was there. However, that is not what sparked the burning desire inside of me that longs to see the world and all its glory. What triggered my dream of travelling, or rather, my acknowledgment of it, happened quite recently.

This past December, I was fortunate enough to be a passenger on the Disney Fantasy and travel to four different locations in the Western Caribbean, all of which had a major impact on my dream.

Our first stop was Cozumel, Mexico. My family and I spent the day at a wonderful little water park called Playa Mia Beach. The buildings were all sorts of colours. There were palm trees everywhere you looked and the smell of ocean salt in the air made me smile the instant I arrived. On the beach, we had a waiter named Sam, who would bring us unlimited drinks all day at our request. He was one of the nicest people I had met that week. That day, I got to go canoeing and pedal-boating on the ocean, collect sea shells, swim in the ocean, play at the waterpark and lay beneath the sun without a care in the world. However, that was all great but my favourite part was the authentic Mexican food that I got to indulge in. There was a lunch buffet in a cute little pavilion over-looking the ocean and it was beautiful. The food in Mexico was incredible, and it made me want to try food from other places of the world. This was actually quite an interesting discovery for me because I have been a picky eater since birth. I figured, if I like the food in Mexico this much, there has to be other places that have food I will love as well. I began to think, maybe I’m just a picky eater because I’m sick of eating the same old things in the same old place. Mexico taught me that from now on, whenever I visit a new city, I will try their food and hopefully be as happily surprised as I was in Cozumel.

Next was Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands. This island impacted me because of the incredible experience I took part in that day. I got to take a boat tour to “Stingray City,” which is a sand bar about 45 minutes out in the ocean from the main island where visitors can swim, snorkel and interact with wild stingrays. In all honesty, regardless of how excited I was for this cruise excursion, I was extremely nervous as well. It was a good kind of nervous though. It wasn’t until I took my first step off the boat and into the abnormally warm ocean water that all the worry that overwhelmed me just seconds prior, had vanished. The water was 84 degrees Fahrenheit and it was the most incredible colour of blue I had ever seen. My family and I shuffled our way through the water to the nearest guide who was holding a massive female stingray. She let me hold it for myself and of course give me the photo opportunity of a lifetime. To my surprise, the ray was quite heavy and difficult to handle, but I tried my best to keep it steady. Once the stingray swam back to the guide, my family and I spent some time just swimming around and snorkeling with these beautiful creatures. I was completely amazed by how beautiful they were and how surreal the experience was. I was surrounded. Everywhere I looked there were wild stingrays. We spent a good amount of time with one guide in particular. His name was Matt and he was from Ontario, Canada like my family. He packed up and moved to the Cayman Islands so he could work for Stingray City and after being there myself, I can see why. He was holding a small male stingray and I got to hold that one and take photos with it as well. Matt was extremely informative about the stingrays and it was obvious that he loved his job. I could only imagine how amazing it must feel to wake up every day knowing that you get to interact with wild stingrays, and make a living out of it. The visit to Stingray City made me realize the most important thing while travelling: experience. It made me want to continue experiencing things as amazing as Stingray City. I crave experiences like that, and it would be amazing to gain those experiences while exploring the rest of the world.

On the third stop, we visited Falmouth, Jamaica. This place taught me about the importance of meeting new people. You always hear people saying how awesome Jamaicans are, but until you really meet one of them you will never know just how accurate that statement is. At our stop in Jamaica, we participated in an excursion at Dunn’s River Falls, where we got to climb a natural waterfall. It was hands down one of coolest things I have ever done, and the most fun I had ever had. However, what really made this place a 10/10 was the people. First and foremost, our tour guide, Anne-Marie, was incredible. She was so kind and welcoming and wanted all of us tourists to feel safe and welcome in her country. When we arrived at the falls, we met up with two men whose names escape me at the moment, but they had so much energy and it radiated through the entire group as they led us up the falls. They made the experience even more fun than it already was by cheering us on and getting everyone super hyped up. The person who impacted me the most however, was a man that we ran into shortly after we had conquered the waterfall. On our way back to the busses, a man carving small wooden figurines called over myself, along with my brother, my mom and my dad. He had carved out two turtles and two tiki-head figurines. He looked at my mom, asked for her name, and then carved it into the back of one tiki-head and then did the same with my dad. He told my dad that my mom was the queen and that he should always obey her, which got a laugh out of everyone. He then proceeded to ask for my brother and I’s names, and carved them into the two turtles. After placing each of the figurines into our hands, my dad asked him how much he owed him for his kind gesture. The man simply said “whatever you can or feel is necessary.” This shocked me and also filled me with such joy. The man’s goal was not to sell his products to us, but to put a smile on our faces. He was so kind and generous and was satisfied regardless of how much my dad paid him in the end. The people in Jamaica are so happy and care-free, just as everyone describes them. I was taught two phrases that day that all Jamaicans live by: “No problem mon” and “Irie” (which means “all good”). The people there were incredible, and it made me want to meet people from other parts of the world as well.

Our final stop was at Disney’s Private Island in the Bahamas, called Castaway Cay. Unfortunately for me, the sun was so strong that day that I ended up with heat stroke, but I did get a pretty good feel for the island before I headed back to the ship early to sleep it off. Just as you’d expect from Disney, the customer service was beyond satisfactory and as magical as ever. I spent most of the day snorkeling (which could be why I ended up with heat stroke) and I found a statue of Mickey Mouse sitting at the bottom of the snorkeling lagoon, surrounded by a number of small fish. The water was quite cold though, about 68 degrees Fahrenheit. As I walked down the paved pathway to go grab some lunch, I ran into Mickey, Minnie and Goofy, who were hosting a dance party on the beach, which I thought was adorable. Disney has always and will always hold a special place in my heart. In fact, another one of my dreams besides travelling, is to spend a summer in Orlando, Florida working as a cast member for the mouse himself at Walt Disney World. What I learned from visiting Castaway Cay was that Disney really does know how to put on a vacation, and if I ever find myself in France, China, Hawaii or California, I would love to visit one of their other locations.

This week long Caribbean cruise may have been one of the best weeks of my life. Everything I did, everything I saw and everyone I met contributed to the realization that I want to travel the world. Although I am only sixteen years old, I have so many ideas of places I would like to go and things I would like to see. If I had never gone on the Disney Cruise back in December, I’m not sure I would have yet figured out my unconscious desire to see new places. I hope that one day in the future I will be walking down the streets of Paris, sailing on a catamaran through the waters of Spain, boarding a plane to Australia, or maybe on a mission trip building homes in Guatemala, and I will look back on myself as a sixteen year old girl, and know that she was proud of me for following my dreams.

Island Princess Cruise 3

February 18th to February 28th, 2017 Ft. Lauderdale –2 sea days, Aruba, Cartagena, Panama Canal (part transit – Colon), Limon, sea day, Grand Cayman, Sea day – Ft. Lauderdale One more cruise down. Another 19 to go. In Florida we got new bosses. Simone and Martyn left and Callie from South Africa and Adam from Australia replaced them. New ideas, etc. And the lovely Paola from Mexico, whom I worked with on the Star Princess, embarked in Florida as well. She works in the Shore Excursion department. I am so excited we are working together again. In Arts n Crafts we did Mola Pouches again (3 day craft). Passengers were lovely in my classes. Very thankful and very excited to be able to do all these crafts. I also did cruise long trivia again. We only had 4 days of trivia as it is only on sea days. One team did really well. Mariana and I coordinated prizes as she was on cruise long mini-Olympics. They were fantastic. I co-hosted the Yes/No gameshow with Callie and hosted Karaoke the same night. Karaoke on these cruises tend to be a small group of passengers singing. We have Karaoke Power Hour. Usually get a handful of passengers that get to sing 2 or 3 songs. I didn’t sing this cruise though. I usually like to bless passengers with MmmBop by Hanson. Haha. I hosted a Chocolate Demo. Mmm. The pastry chef made truffles, cookies and mousse. We handed out recipes to the passengers and he shows them how to make them in the Atrium. When we got to Aruba, I had to stay on the ship. My roommate went on an excursion. She went sailing on a Pirate Ship and snorkelled. Hopefully I can do that next time we go to Aruba. I did activities on board with passengers. We had karaoke under the stars and Love Boat Disco Deck Party at night. 3 hours of dancing. Passengers were very involved, trying all the line dances. Always so much fun. Then finish the night with a drink in the crew bar and I fall asleep fast. Hannah and I got off Cartagena, Colombia. We missed the crew shuttle and it wasn’t very frequent this time to the Old City. So we just walked over to the rainforest wildlife refuge about a 5 minute walk up the pier. Lots of birds and monkeys. I love it there. The monkeys are so cute. We attempted to leave to gates and check out what was around, but we got hassled too much by the taxi drivers and went back to the pier. Had a couple Colombian beers and headed back to the ship. The shore excursion department needed crew members to go on excursions with passengers. Help out as escorts. So Hannah and I got to get off in the canal. We took tenders (lifeboats) to the Gatun Lake pier. Instead of going through the next set of locks I went on land tour. I went with some passengers to a few places. We hiked through the rainforest. Beautiful in there. We went to a resort, had beer and then boarded small pontoons and cruised around the Gatun Lake. I bought a bag of Reese Cups from the gift shop. Which ended up being a bad idea, because they were melting fast in the pontoon. I handed them to many passengers to help me finish the bag. Saw lots of Howler Monkeys in the trees as well as Capuchins. No crocodiles or sloths. But it was a relaxing cruise. After we went to the Gatun Lake Panama Canal locks. Watched a small cruise ship go through them. It was amazing. Hot and sunny day as well. I helped everyone get back on the bus and we headed back to the ship, which was now docked in Colon, Panama. The guide stopped the bus at a grocery store and bought us some beer. Best guide ever. We drove through the city of Colon and arrived back at the ship. I purchased small item handmade by the local Panama natives. We sailed around 8pm. We got to Limon, Costa Rica the next day. The port was full of markets. I didn’t go off the ship for very long. I went back on and sun bathed on the open deck. We played a game show called Blankety Blank at night. Greg hosted and Hannah, Marianna and I sat in chairs on stage and wrote our answers on paper. The passengers playing had to match our answers to win. We had a sea day then arrived at Grand Cayman. I got off the ship with Paola this time. Took a taxi to the seven mile beach and enjoyed a few hours at the Tiki Resort with the excursion department people. We had a private cabana area. Had a mango margarita and pina colada. As well as a quesadilla. Went swimming in the ocean. I wanted to rent a jet ski. But it was $85 American for half an hour. Yikes! We had the 50s theme night on the ship that night. Lots of dancing and twisting in my Greaser leather jacket. My team and I make a great backup dancers during ballads, haha. The Oscars were also on that night. We had it broadcasted on the Movies Under the Stars screen. I was only able to watch a bit of it. I watched the end in the crew bar after working. I also made up Oscar Prediction sheets for the passengers to fill out. And I gave the person with the most right a prize package. I got lost of positive feedback from passengers. They really appreciated that I did that. We had a beach party in the crew bar that night. We like to party hard. On the last sea day we crowned the Voice of the Ocean winner and had the International Crew Show again and said our goodbyes to the passengers.
