Happy New Year everyone! Today marks my 6 year sober anniversary! I am so glad that I woke up 6 years ago today, with a raging hang over and emotionally exhausted, and decided to see what would happen if I cut all drugs and alcohol out of my life for the month of Jan. I wanted to see what would happen to my mental clarity, my emotions, my sense of self, my panic attacks, my anxiety, my general physical and mental health. At the end of Jan I was emaciated, sick with the flu, pimples all over my body, my skin looked grey, and I could barely walk to the bathroom. But something inside of me was changing and I felt a sense of power over my own situation. So I thought, what will happen if I continue on for the month of Feb. The story continues on and I no longer think month long, I think life long. The longer my sobriety lasts the better my life gets. The pandemic has put a massive kink in my self care and self esteem but I never blew off my sobriety. And now as I continue on in this world wide pandemic I am finally remembering all the tools I had in place before the world shut down. It took THAT long to get back to my 2019 tools and tricks to keep the anxiety and panic attacks at bay and the healthy thinking and forward motion continuing. I have forgotten so much and I am happy to have them back! So here’s to 2022, the year we learn to live with this virus and get our 2019 mojo back plus the mojo that’s been backed up since March 2020! I look forward to crushing this year!!!
