OPINION ON TRUE LOVE: :)  OPINION ON LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT: Attraction at first sight? Yes. Love is far too complicated an emotion to be felt by first sight alone. He would refuse something like that and probably consider it too whimsical to be held in seriousness.  HOW ROMANTIC ARE THEY?: He certainly has the capacity to be romantic, having sired children throughout the years ( even if only for the purpose of his plans ) He played his part of an Emperor well and chose an Empress he could get along with. I'm sure he loved her, and was as romantic as he could be to not only keep up appearances, but because he did care about her. 

The man can act, but in special circumstances, his true romantic intentions come out in poetic and passionate words. Personal and whispered so no one else could hear. It's a special form of affection for him, to be truly romantic. He just hasn't had the time or the person to focus on.

IDEAL PHYSICAL TRAITS: I don't think he's fussed! So long as that person takes care of themselves! Although. . . Long hair? Yes. IDEAL PERSONALITY TRAITS: So long as that person can either challenge him, share in his ideals in some way or retain his attention in a positive way, that is his ideal. UNATTRACTIVE PHYSICAL TRAITS: Honestly at present he rarely views Eorzeans as attractive at all lmao he is purely attracted on personality. Though he does find certain physical features appealing - the eyes and lips.  UNATTRACTIVE PERSONALITY TRAITS: Traits he will focus on in a person would be their opinions and views. If they're a simpleton all they'll do is annoy him. so. . . no himbos for emet :(

IDEAL DATE: He doesn't have an ideal date, but would be fond of jumping into the fray with his partner. Through a dungeon or perhaps against a powerful creature. He wants to watch his partner show their power, perhaps see within them a power that can further inherit the world he'd lost.  DO THEY HAVE A TYPE?: I think it's too early to tell, but so far he's gravitated toward stubborn types.   AVERAGE RELATIONSHIP LENGTH: Extremely short. I think in the beginning he only got into relationships as a form of gaining trust or power for things he'd wanted. Titles for future endeavors, things like that. He had never, and will very rarely, enter into a real relationship so long as he is working against the Scions/Hydaelyn. He views his goals on a level far higher than staving off his loneliness. When entering a real relationship however, I'd say it will last their lifetime so long as things work well between them. PREFERRED NON-SEXUAL INTIMACY: Quiet nights. Silent relaxation. learning and bouncing ideas from one another.  COMMITMENT LEVEL: If he actually loves them, it's infinite. OPINION OF PUBLIC AFFECTION: This is highly dependent on his Status at the time. As Emperor, he will allow for his arm to be held or even his waist - perhaps a kiss on the cheek in front of servants or generals. He is not appreciative of high displays of affection in public.

As Hades, before the sundering, I think he'd be the same way.

PAST RELATIONSHIPS?: he was once married politically as Solus, so he canonically had a wife. A few flings to fill the void perhaps, here and there, being someone who has been alive for 10s of thousands of years. . . there's no telling how many people he'd been in a relationship with - whether that was for gain or boredom, who knows. I do believe there were massive gaps in his dating profile considering. . . you know.

FFXIV Endwalker Lyrics Breakdown

Hello all! As you might be aware, Yoshi-P recently did an interview where he mentioned that the Endwalker song was meant to represent Hydaelyn and Zodiark as each having their own voice. So, using this information, I wanted to go over each verse to determine what they might mean or refer to!

[Sam Carter vocals] Heart of ember*, out of time Cooling swiftly, bleeding light Smoldering softly, biding time Marching forward, left behind

This is our introduction to the song, and I think it’s interesting that Zodiark is the main ‘speaker’ throughout the song. It should be noted that the “ember” here might also refer to “amber”. In both cases, I believe the first two lines are referring to Hydaelyn, and Zodiark’s view of the situation. We know that Hydaelyn had been significantly weakened after she protected us from the Ultima weapon, and that Zodiark’s seal has been weakening due to the calamities. There have been seven such calamities so far, which is over half of the seals broken.

The next two lyrics refer to Zodiark himself. After his defeat at the hands of Hydaelyn, he’s been biding time until his return: his essence never truly left. Since he was sealed, not truly defeated, I think this and the Ascian’s mentions about ‘re-writing the laws of this star’ might refer to Zodiark and Hydaelyn actually BEING the star and moon now, too, but I’m getting ahead of myself. In any case, Zodiark seems keen on making his debut soon.

This section seems to refer to the End of Days that the Ascians suffered, and notably, begins playing before the narrator describes the End of Days occurring again. As we’ve defeated the last of the unsundered Ascians, I believe this refers to their last attempt to lash out at the world they tried so hard to protect, the world that had forgotten them.

Here the first two lyrics refer to Zodiark’s view of Hydaelyn again... or possibly you, the Warrior of Light. It’s a tough call. If it’s referring to Hydaelyn, she could be going through one last burst of energy before the final curtain call in their tale. If it’s the Warrior of Light, he could be referring to the idea that we’re out of time to stop his return. If we are out of time though, we’re still very powerful and are a beacon to those around us.

I personally lean a bit more to the WoL interpretation, especially with these last two lyrics. I have had the absolute worst time trying to figure out what the word in between “Kindred souls in a“ and “web”, but I believe the basic gist is being trapped and sad here. I unfortunately can’t figure out much more without that missing word.

This is the first time we here from Hydaelyn in this track. This part is interesting because it breaks from the sad, minor-key we’ve been in to something somewhat hopeful. I also think it’s important to remember that Hydaelyn was ALSO summoned by Ascians. Because of this, and because of how Hydaelyn tempers people, I think she very much does Not want the Ascians to be a forgotten people. I think maybe part of the reason why she’s had so much trouble with the calamities is that, at her core? She didn’t want to fight the other Ascians. She doesn’t really want to temper people, either. But she still wants the Ascians to be remembered, even if she wants to stop them from their goal of reviving Zodiark.

Ok yea no idea about Heavensward dragon lyrics here other than I think we’re going to get an answer as to where the dragons were running from.

Switching back to Zodiark, we have the beginning of the Stormblood lyrics that takes on a new meaning with what we know about how the Ascians summoned Zodiark and Hydaelyn. It was half of their population sacrificed to stop the End of Days and another half to return life to the planet, and then another half to summon Hydaelyn... So I think that puts us at 87.5% of the Ascian population, gone. And since we know of no other primals using souls as their source instead of Crystals, there’s a non-zero chance that they’re still cognizant in there. Spooky!

(Side note: how messed up would it be if the crystals we mine are either the remnants of wounds from Zodiark/Hyadaelyn’s clash, or the remains of Ascians?)

In any case, it seems like these souls are now tired of this game, and long to be set free. Whether it’s through the dispersal of their soul back into the aetherial sea, or if it’s through the sacrifice of everything on this star to revive them, is anyone’s guess.

There’s a lot of anger here, and the Ascian’s hands are stained in blood. I vaguely remember something about a blood oath to restore Zodiark, and with the lyric about ‘Cull these thieves’ and ‘Hunger’s fed’... I’m thinking that Zodiark is powerful enough to start breaking his bounds himself, and is ready to set about restoring the star to their ‘rightful’ stewards.

Here we have Hydaelyn again, and she’s still hopeful. Knowing now that this represents Hydaelyn, I am leaning closer to the “boughs” interpretation for that third line. Despite how grim things look Hydaelyn seems confident that we can handle it. And that, at the end, we will come out better and stronger for it.

On wings of hope you rise up through the night, Higher, oh higher, Carrying a song, Made of voices in our hearts, That its chorus might ring for all!

This, she’s speaking to you, the Warrior of Light. You are a bastion of hope, made up of the people you’ve met along the way, and you carry their hopes and dreams with you as you press on. You are at the point where your story has inspired people to travel through time and space to save you, because you gave them something to rally around. You gave them hope for a better tomorrow. And it is that same hope that will carry everyone through the fight ahead.

Tumbling down, to! the! end!

This section, the speaker is not Zodiark or Hydaelyn, but the narrator. The speaker is referring to the fact that Zodiark and Hydaelyn are echoes of each other, and that perhaps their time is coming to an end. I think at the end of this expansion, we will see both primals return to the aetherial sea.

[Sam Carter vocals] There’s a step we take, Echoes in our wake, Went and [mount] our best, Forge ahead- !

This takes on an interesting meaning if we continue to take this as Zodiark speaking. Each step taken on this path to resurrection has left something behind. Whether that’s entire shards, the other Ascians, or referring to something else is hard to say. But no matter what, Zodiark is going to continue on this path forward.

Should we lose our way, Tire of our disgrace, We won’t be afraid, Forge ahead- !

Now this part is interesting. For a while I was torn between “disgrace” and “dismay” as the last line of the second lyric, but the idea that it’s Zodiark speaking has me leaning firmly to “disgrace”. As evidenced by Emet-Selch’s attempts to help you as much as he can despite his tempering, I do not think any of the Ascians really want to be doing this. They feel lost, disgraced, and are generally unhappy with how things have gone. But they’ve come too far, waited too long, to stop now. They still have their own people to save, after all.

There is not a place, Nor the time to wait, No it’s not too late, Forge ahead- !

Again, referring to the idea that the time to strike is now. It’s not worth waiting to see if this is really the time and place, the iron is hot! They still have a chance, even with the unsundered Ascians gone!

As we ride again, To another end, Where it all begins, Forge ahead- !

And finally, I believe we’ll be seeing the original site of the battle between Hydaelyn and Zodiark. Time has finally come full circle, and it’s time for these two to finish what was started oh so long ago.

Other notable things throughout the song are Zodiark’s propensity to speak in plural, I think referring to the fact that he is made up of so many souls. Just, so many. And I think part of Zodiark’s issue, why he was defeated the first time despite Hydaelyn being significantly weaker (Compare his roughly 75% of the population’s souls to Hydaelyn’s 12.5%) is that the souls are discordant with one another. Hydaelyn has never had a problem referring to only herself, and even here uses plurals to refer to both herself and the WoL. And we don’t know how many of that 75% were sacrificed knowing of the plan to sacrifice the new lifeforms to bring them, the Ascians, back. I can’t imagine many of them were happy about that. But, at this point, I think their will might be over-powered now by those that DO wish to complete the plan, or at the very least, that is the portion of Zodiark speaking in this song most strongly.

Francel/Haurchefant 01, if it's ok!

HAURCHEFANT/FRANCEL (this more than just ok

when I started shipping it if I did:fairly early into the 2.0 coerthas arc. it was one of my first big npc/npc ships and I always kept it close 3 it was the first ship I looked up in the fandom to see if I’m the only one seeing it. THE GOOD TIMES ; u;

my thoughts:When I think about haurchefran, I often think about their past. About how they used to be back then  vs. how they are now. so my talking refers a lot to their short story “vows unbroken” published on the official sites. IMO(!!) Francel is Haurchefant’s most important relationship as he taught him unconditional loyalty and FIGHTING TO PROTECT YOUR LOVED ONES instead of fighting to prove a point/to make people(his family) proud. which is so so so so important given his childhood and who he became in the end. ALSO. childhood friends. it’s my one big and true weakness. the fourth son without any special talents and the bastard kid. my heart. Now I’ll dive into analyzing territory forgive me.Francel always tries his best to do right by everyone…but “mediocre” is pretty much how he’s seen by everyone, even the lorebook points out how Francel doesn’t have any mentionable talents, and the best teachers didn’t help. So…he’s no good on the battlefield, not an outstanding leader or tactician, nor really anything. And still, he refrains from complaining to others, never tries to let it on how self-conscious it makes him. Instead he TRIES and TRIES and TRIES to regain the family honor and help out where he can. ALL these expectations his older brothers should have carried suddenly fall on him and even though he SHOULDERS THEM with so much bravery - despite it being too much - no one, not even his own father really believes in him (he wants to but look at him in the MCH QL)  because of how he lacks any noteworthy talents. That’s such a horrible thing?? On the one hand people EXPECT EVERYTHING FROM YOU but at the same time they don’t BELIEVE in you. This is why his friendship to Haurchefant is EVEN more important… bc yes, Francel reaching out and being kind saved Haurchefant and made him a better version of himself, but it goes both ways to an extend. Haurchefant BELIEVES IN FRANCEL and honestly cherishes him so much: Haurchefant risks his life (when saving Francel from the bandits as a teen) and later the whole reputation he worked so hard for (in order to save Francel from being executed by false Inquisitor Guillaume in 2.0)! he murders, attacks, rides into battle - there’s a bit of a berserk button trope that is Francel IN DANGER.  Keep in mind that while saving Francel brought Haurchefant fame, admiration and a title, Francel didn’t. Haurchefant is his ONLY FRIEND. (one of the haillenarte knights say this after his death…otl) Haurchefant gave Francel the affirmation that his efforts, that HE is worth risking his life for. and now that he’s dead you just see Francel wandering to his memorial. “It doesn’t get any easier, does it?”  you just hear him being unable to find the right words. I- I’m so sad for him because unlike everyone else, he doesn’t move on. he never does after 3.0You can literally feel the void in his heart, his whole character feels so broken now.It really hurts, but I prefer this characterization so much over the general one everyone else Haurchefant was close to has, which, after the unevitable mourning is “In his name we keep on going and continue doing our best, because that’s what he would want”. Haurchefant would want this especially for Francel and Francel KNOWS this but…he can’t, not even for him. and that’s realistic and raw pain AND IT REALLY STANDS OUT, this relationship is painfully overlooked because square decided to drop it in HW…

What makes me happy about them:- cute childhood friends with tiny age difference - just pure good and honest kid friendship - double summer vacations between haillenarte+fortemps (this is canon and such good stuff to imagine) with these two breaking away from their camp to spend time together bc only around each other they can 100% be themselves. just imagine them in coerthas with it’s nice green mountains and waterfalls before the Calamity made it a freezing wasteland- MUTUAL PINING, BELIEVING THEY’D RUIN EVERYTHING IF THEY MADE A MOVE—–>  I still really dig the headcanon that BOTH OF THEM think their feelings for each other are one-sided. francel feeling like haurchefant’s more out of reach with each passing moon, whereas haurchefant actually tries to be respectful and not act on it like he usually does with his showering of over-the-top-adoration, because Francel is actually pretty damn IMPORTANT to him. and he throws himself into adventurer worship and commander work instead but then there are always those LITTLE hints from both sides that rekindle hopefulness and everything is terribly difficult when you’re in love with your best friend. as a nobleman. in ishgard. - Francel’s bubbling jealousy reg. haurchefant’s adoration of the wol but he tells himself he’s the terrible one for feeling this way.- francel the very sweet, very faithful son + world-open haurchefant who’s eccentric and waaaay too obsessed with physical admiration and appreciation 8>

What makes me sad about them: MENTIONED IN THE “THOUGHTS” SECTION, Francel post!Haurchefant’s death makes me feel awful. the lack of interaction post 2.0 is a crime. I’m glad for the vows unbroken story, at least.

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: honestly can’t see francel with anyone else seriously, especially AFTER haurchefant’s death, as terrible as that is for him. big surprise, I don’t have any other haurchefant ships either :>

who is the big spoon/little spoon:unsurprisingly haurchefant as the big spoon in your usual cuddle scenario because he’s soooooo open about that kind of stuff when given the chance, but it can totally go both ways. francel carefully gettin those arms around his man = good

what is their favorite non-sexual activity:I always think about their child activities. in “vows unbroken”, we have haurchefant and his inpromptu visits to young francel when he felt unloved by his family and them sneaking out together, away from views and society. I love to incorporate that canon into ARR’s-HW’s timeline - them still doing that when time allows it, secretly. Them looking over the city from far away (YOU KNOW THE PLACE), it’s where Francel sees the look in Haurchefant’s eyes “the way he would look at it, with a smile that wasn’t quite, and eyes that held the whole of the world…” - and Francel fell a little more in love with him; with that private, familiar side of him. “I’d give anything to know what he felt in those moments.” me = crying and never giving up on haurche/fran
