"Baby?" James called from the shower, eyes closed while his hands were in his hair. There was soap on his face and he couldn't see anything. "El," he called out once more. They were at his house and he finished packing his entire garage and needed a shower due to how sweaty and greasy he got. He didn't know if Ella was taking a nap somewhere or on the phone. He didn't move for a couple seconds before resuming his shower.

Ella was sitting on the floor in the living room, legs crossed as she sorted through some of James belongings. Rocky sat next to her, dozing in and out. God it seemed like the packing would never end. She heard J's faint call for her and yelled back, not getting up, "What?"June 17, 2017

James turned the water off and pulled a towel from the hook next to the shower. "Aren't you supposed to hear back about the results today?" They'd been busy with packing that he couldn't remember if this was the day or sometime next week. The towel went to his face and then his body, patting everything dry while water dripped from the ends of his long hair.

James wrapped the towel around his waist and went down the hallway, stopping short when he reached the living room. She was in the midst of all of his shit and he looked down at a photo album and bent down to pick it up. "I hope it's today. That way we can know for certain and move on. Not that it changes anything." It was more for peace of mind than anything. James opened the cover and and saw his baby picture. He hadn't seen this since he moved into this house.

"You took a look at this?" He asked, flipping through the next few pages while he halfway took in the pictures. He'd seen them all before. There were picture of him as a toddler and playing with a neighbor kid in a small swimming pool. There were pictures of him missing teeth and grinning wide. Others where he had his first puppy, before it was given away.

"What do you mean 'were'? I like to think my cuteness carried over into my adulthood." He moved to lower the album to show El more pictures. "I think my high school prom picture is in this one," he said as he turned more pages, hearing the noise of the plastic crinkle with each flip. Towards the back he found a few pictures of him as a teenager. There were some of friends he hadn't talked in a long time. There were others with buddies he saw at the bar. He kept going until he found the picture of him in a white tux and baby blue bow tie. He stood by himself, sporting something which closely resembled a mullet and a bigger than life grin. "Guess you can say this is blackmail material if you ever need it." he laughed.

James laughed with her. He knew then he needed a haircut and never got around to it. "Isn't there a saying that goes, what happens on pr-" James was laughing again and unable to finish that sentence. "Oh man," he closed the album and set it on the surface of a box, "Maybe I did. Once I lost the jacket and bow tie I looked good. Especially when I showed my dance moves," he took her hand and kissed at her knuckles. "I'd give a demonstration but only if you feel like being swept off your feet."June 19, 2017

"The night is a complete blur. There was a lot of alcohol and my friends got a couple hotel rooms. I know I had a good time." He shrugged and smiled. "There were a couple girls who'd been after me all year and I remember hanging out with them," Did he hook up with both of them? He remembered kissing them, the girls more than happy to share him. God, he lived quite the life at eighteen. "I think we're both dressed appropriately for a dance. You in my clothes and me in a towel. Or am I overdressed?" He hooked a thumb at his towel and pretended he was about to drop it.

"What type of name is Bradway? Was he a part of those fancy families that go to expensive restaurants and eat dinner off gold plates?" James teased her with a grin and before he could do or say anything else, the towel was gone and he stood completely nude in his living room. If she wasn't pregnant he'd have scooped her over his shoulder and taken her to the bedroom but all he could do now was look down at himself and consider playfully making himself move as a means of saying hello back. He didn't buy the idea amused him. "Just know it's saying hi," he laughed and went to pull her in close.

"It's a handsome name!" Ella defended. "He was so sweet and I was so awful to him ." She recalled how she had dumped him to spread her wings in college and left him broken hearted. Ella smirked,"I'm sure he is, he's always very polite to me." Ella held on to his arms and kissed at his warm bare chest. "You should get dressed and then help me get this packed up. Maybe we'll find more pictures of you for me to blackmail you with.." she thought better of it, "or not get dressed but still help me pack." Ella giggled. She would have offered to show her embarrassing pictures but she had paid movers to box and move out her entire town home. Most of all their furniture was being sold or stored away as Ella wanted new furniture that would fit the house perfectly.

"I'd that's what you consider handsome then I'm glad I came along when I did or the babies would have wound up with some weird name. The type that are guaranteed to get picked on in school," he said. "Are you sure you're over him? I can look him up on Facebook and see what he's up to. Maybe he's still pining away for you?" James' felt her hand on him and he wanted to encourage more but the mention of scissors set him on the path to the bedroom. "Up for going on a walk with me and Rock? He needs one," James called out as he pulled a clean pair of boxers on.

It'll just be around the block," he lowered and placed his arms around his dog, "and how can say no to this face?" James placed his cheek against Rocky's and raised it so they were both looking at her; James with a pitiful expression.

At seeing their faces Ella let out an exasperated sigh,"Alright. I'll go change." She grumbled. She headed back to go find some real clothes. "We shouldn't put off packing," she called back over her shoulder,"it's never going to ---" Ella was interrupted by the sound of her phone ringing. She froze and then slowly turned looking back at J. "Oh my god. Is it them?" She flew back down the hall and started at her phone on the coffee table. The number wasn't recognized which she figured was a good sign it could be the lab. "Should-- should I answer?" Suddenly it occurred to Ella that if she knew for sure and it wasn't what they hoped for, her dreams of having them be J's biologically were dashed officially.

James gave Rock's side a good couple pats and he went to grab his dog's leash. As he heard the phone ring Ella hurried past him and James went into the kitchen with her. His stomach was in sudden knots and as much as he braced himself for this moment, he could still feel those nerves. "You should," the leash wrapped around his hand a few times and he got close to her. Ready for whatever may come.

Ella grabbed her cell phone and answered. She had specifically asked them to call her instead of waiting for the results via mail. Quickly she put the call on speaker phone so James could hear everything too. They listened to the blood specialist on the other side of the phone confirm that James was the biological father. The call was quick and deliberate and Ellas hand shot over her mouth as the woman on the other spoke. Her knees felt weak and her whole body seemed to be vibrating in emotion. With a small thank you Ella hung up and looked at James bursting into tears

James prayed the babies were his. He knew in his heart he'd love them as if they were his blood, but the confirmation felt like someone pumped him full of joy because he felt the biggest smile form and he didn't think he would ever stop. His eyes swam with tears of his own as he went to pull her to his chest. James' damp lips pressed against her forehead and hair, feeling like the luckiest man at that very moment.

They did. Something that they were completely careless with turned into such an important moment in their lives and James continued to feel wetness along his lashes. This was a relief for them, that they could no move forward and know for certain that Peter will be completely in the past soon. That there would be nothing to tie to him and that gave James a tremendous sense of comfort. He moved from her and got down to his knees, placing his hands on either sides of Ella's stomach and saying, "You hear that guys. I'm your dad," he looked up at her and leaned forward to press a couple kisses there.

Ella's heart swelled with happiness, no admission had ever sounded better. She ran her hand through his hair, smiling down at him adoringly. No matter what had been said on that call Ella would have claimed James as their father but now, knowing they were in every way his, made her smile harder then ever.

James kissed her stomach again and pressed his cheek to it as he wrapped his arms around her as best as he could to hug. "I'm glad this call came after I got dressed. I'd had to tell this story and have me naked." he laughed and added, "Not that I can imagine us retelling this to anyone but, well, you get what I'm trying to say," he let go and moved to get to his feet, taking her hand and bringing El with him to the living room. Rocky followed them into it but he kept going until he found his bed in the corner of the room. His walk was long forgotten. "Lets take a break from packing. When she got close James decided to lean into her a little more before resting his chin on top of her head. He was smiling. He'd been smiling since the results came in, and he wished he took a picture or video or something to remember this moment. But it was tucked away in his mind to recall at random moments. His hand went to her stomach and he felt the action happening underneath his palm and against his stomach. "They're having a blast in there." he laughed. "Think they're playing? Tell you the truth I don't know if they can in there."
