#i get that some neurodivergent adults who were former gifted kids are burnt out now

Shout out to neurodivergent children, teens, and adults who were not "gifted kids," but who were average, below average, or labeled "problem" students because of the ways their neurodiversity negatively affected their ability to learn in a traditional classroom setting.

#like i think we're all forgetting that neurodiversity includes a lot of learning disabilities #my dyslexia made it nearly impossible for me to excel in language arts or math classes #even tho i was a hard worker and an avid reader #i get that some neurodivergent adults who were former gifted kids are burnt out now #but ive been burnt out since the 3rd grade when i couldn't differentiate between there their and they're #and instead of reciving help only recieved poor grades #And PLEASE remember that there are major intersections with race and class here #I was a middle class white girl #so my learning disabilities prevented me from excelling but they didn't not prevent me from achiving #that would not have been possible if i were in a lower funded district #or if were a student of color #because students of color neurodivergant or not recieve on average less support sympathy or recognition and validation #than their white counterparts #i recognize that my exhuastion with the burnt out former gifted kid meme is likely just a personal problem #stemming from some weird anxiety and imposter syndrome #but i do think we also need to do a better job of remembering that neurodiversities like dyslexia and adhd are legitimate disabilities #that impact hundreds of thousands of students' abilities to learn every day #esp those students who are under privileged
