hhhhhh GUP headcanons >:)

A:

It's blue because it's Barnacles' favourite colour.

It's the oldest of the main GUPs, Tweak built it after she finished building the first Octopod.

She always planned to make more, but was too busy back then. (She would've been juggling engineer AND lieutenant roles, considering Kwazii wasn't around yet.)

A stands for Anglerfish and "Action".

B:

Was originally dark blue, until Kwazii came along and painted it.

One of the second oldest GUPs, Tweak built it and the GUP-C around the same time—a few years after Dashi joined the crew. (Their crew was expanding, so she figured they needed more GUPs in case there were two emergencies at once that called for one.)

It's too fast for Barnacles to drive. If Kwazii hadn't come along, they might've scrapped it. (Or indefinitely thrown it into storage, like the GUP-O.)

B stands simply for "B" because it's the second in the series, and for "Boost" because of it's boosted power/speed.

C:

Blue and yellow because Tweak started to run out of blue paint.

Third oldest GUP: See above. Tweak added the towline because she knew the GUP-B was going to get wrecked a few times, and there'd probably been some times where the GUP-A crashed and they had no idea how to get it home.

A vehicle and rescue line saves the day every time <3

C stands for "C" and for "Crane" because of the anchor crane thing it has. (*cough* could also be "anChor" but,, eh)

D:

Fully yellow because blue paint?? Gone.

As soon as Kwazii was made lieutenant, and Tweak had more free time, she IMMEDIATELY got to work on the GUP-D.

It has the most complicated and difficult-to-learn controls and steering system of all the GUPS combined. Tweak may have gotten a little carried away with her new freedom. It's her favourite GUP.

D stands for "Drill"; they (Barnacles and Tweak) sometimes affectionately refer to it as "The Drill™".

E:

Green because they ran out of yellow paint it's Peso's favourite colour.

It was built specifically for Peso: it is His GUP™, the same way the GUP-B is known as Kwazii's GUP™.

It was originally intended as a trainee vehicle; it has the simplest and most basic steering system, and it's basically a Little Tikes Car in submarine form. It's controls are visually similar, but completely different to the other GUPS, and Peso is the only one who can actually drive it efficiently, since he's used to it.

E stands for "Emergency", and is a play on the word "Guppy".

F:

Tweak used the blueprints for the GUP-F as a base for the GUP-E, which is why they have similar shapes.

Old. She started building it back home in the Everglades, after the Manitoba crashed. She threw herself into her work, but was never able to get it right. (Either because she was never satisfied, or because there was something fundamentally wrong with it that she couldn't see.)

Before it was destroyed, she would always go back to it, and start tinkering with it whenever she was stressed. It just made her more stressed.

F stands for "First".

X:

Barnacles GUP-fied. That's it.

Tweak made it for him out of pure affection /p. It's a symbol of their friendship :)

She was like "Ooooohhhhh it's Christmas....... gotta make my bff the Best Gift Ever.......... my bff who loves ships................... wait omg I got it--"

That's it.

X stands for Xiphosura.

other GUP headcanons below cut 👀:

G:

It's the second biggest GUP, under technicality. (See GUP-I.)

G literally stands for "Giant". (It's based off the Giant Chinese Salamander, for those who don't know.)

H:

Green because it's Tweak's favourite colour.

She made it for fun, it was VERY experimental.

The controls are a little weird, because that's what happens when you give a helicopter the guts of a submarine.

Literally none of the Octonauts are flight-trained. Barnacles and Tweak are the only ones allowed to fly it. (Dashi is allowed in AnB, because she has flight training from piloting the Octoray.)

I:

The biggest GUP, if only because it's basically the Octo-Lab on wheels.

👆 Not really a GUP, but still qualifies as, and is called one, because of said wheels.

Much bigger on the inside than what we've seen so far; it has several rooms, and at least two floors (maybe a loft, but still.)

K:

It was inspired by the motorboat that Ranger Marsh has—they are very visually similar.

That motorboat sparked Tweak's special interest in engineering.

The K stands for "Kroc" (because "killer croc" isn't super kid friendly).

M:

She built 3 instead of 1 because she had a lot of parts left over, and thought maybe they could use them for fun activities (like dirt bike racing).

M stands for "Motorbike" and "Mudskipper".

O:

The only one besides Tweak who knows anything about it is Barnacles.

It's currently tucked away deep in the Octo-Repair Station, because she can't get it to work for some reason.

She first got the idea for it, and has been working on it ever since the Arctic Orcas episode.

P:

P stands for "Parrotfish" and for "Patrol".

It's like a combination of the GUP-E and GUP-Ms.

It's mostly a patrolling GUP, but it probably has a small storage space under the seat like the Octoski does.

R:

Was supposed to be a gift for Kwazii, in the same way the GUP-X and GUP-E were gifts for Barnacles and Peso.

Sadly, he didn't really want a new GUP. He still appreciated the gesture, though.

R originally stood for "Race".

S:

Another GUP she built for Barnacles, but it was more spontaneous than the GUP-X. She just felt like making it.

It's one of her favourites; she's really proud of all the different features, and the fact that it's her first GUP able to survive Arctic temperatures, which would've been the GUP-O if it worked.

S stands for "Snow" and "Sled".

V:

I feel like it's still on the Octopod, in wherever they keep the GUPs when they're not using them.

Tweak has promised to one day help the Vegimals tinker with it a bit more, to make it into a proper GUP.

She is very impressed with it as it is, though. The TG-5 was inspired by it.
