rewatching the lord of the rings movies and honestly they really ricochet wildly between incredible and totally fantasy-of-that-era corny

like. on the whole: really good. really hit the important points as an adaptation. but also wow are some of the like. gaussian blur moments really doofy

#some v specific things in moria especially that were very weirdly reminiscent of the harry p*tter movies—troll‚ stairways— #plus of course gollum and dobby have some visual commonalities #also *damn* did they strike gold with their composer #the score does SO much critical work in these films #not that i didn't know it at the time but by comparison with the ~rings of p*wer~ show... ough #the soundtrack in that is just. SO milquetoast by comparison. you actively notice it and you actively notice that it's anemic #i will say i'd love to see dwarves that weren't comic relief #which they are in both this and in the amazon show tbh #i never saw the hobbit movies so maybe those did better? hard to conceive of richard armitage being comic relief #in conclusion v v weird to be revisiting this extremely seminal crush and to be like. sort of unmoved? #like it's not like i don't recognize the absolutely direct aesthetic throughline from aragorn to geralt #but it's like. an intellectual recognition. v disconcerting! #(anyway i sure do have Thoughts abt the amazon series but whether it's worth my while to blog abt them... highly debatable) #(may or may not bother) #journaling #tvblogging
