more of my i can make him worse au hiii. teru goes with mob for mogamis exorcism & gets possessed as bait for mob. keiji realizes this kid was the spitting image of the lesson he was trying to teach so when mob gets thrown into his scape, he’s found himself abruptly transferred to black vinegar middle school where he struggles, to say the least.

edano and his boys bully him pretty relentlessly until teru finally takes notice of him and creates this messy possessive bubble around shigeo where only he gets to bully and fuck w him (🏳️‍🌈❓) until mob gets so angry his powers begin to reawaken and teru POUNCES on him for a fight. except this time, teru wins, and gives mob an ultimatum to become his little esper guard dog in return for a socially lavish lifestyle.

yup! so about that au... what's mob's feelings about teru? does he care about him? does he try to give him the benefit of the doubt? does he hate everything about him but thinks he's attractive? would love to know lol

so to answer that I'm gunna explain that the au is structured like this:

canonically, mogami wants to teach mob to be selfish, and to draw from negative emotions. he uses minori to do it; she bullies him until he snaps and mogami lets him reawaken to his powers in a violent context.

in this au, teruki comes with to the exorcism and ends up possessed to bait mob. except once mogamis in his head he's like oh YOU get it. that's exactly how teru was living as a kid. so you're going to teach him what you already knew how to do.

so mob wakes up in the mirror world freshly transferred to black vinegar and is immediately latched on to by edano and other boys in his gang. this draws terus attention to mob after a few weeks and he starts isolating him to bully himself (terus pretty obsessed w mob anyway, so that thread gets pulled, but also 🏳️‍🌈❓).

it builds until mob awakens to his powers to get teru off his back and teru pounces on it for a hierarchy fight immediately. he's ELATED to find another esper (in the show he says he has so many questions / stop rejecting me / don't leave me) so they throw down but mobs powers are tuned to lose the fight, so teru snaps him up to be his guard dog.

from terus perspective he's just found the perfect disciple. they're two of a kind. and he becomes VERY possessive of mob, and in turn, mob has the traits easily influenced & deeply loyal, so even if he feels prickly about terus attitude, he sucks like a magnet to his hip anyway bc hes the closest thing mob has to a friend.

they're both very lonely and ultimately scared kids right. so the enmeshment is pretty immediate and they start spending about all their time together bc the alternative is an empty grey city. mob fights most of terus fights for him, and thru it develops a much more physical outlet for his emotions (as opposed to verbal gentleness that is largely taught by reigen).

which.. leads to rubs when teru does stupid shit to get mobs attention and it works Too Well bc mob has no idea how to communicate it so he gets In terus personal space, pushes him around, gives him these autistic Stares but ultimately neither of them actually know how to wrangle the like oh God he's a life raft to me and I want to kiss him emotions so they act out stupid instead.

it's like.. idk I want to see their traits laid out in a more toxic light but also they're still obsessed with each other. and ultimately yeah mob does learn to be a lot more selfish and to use his powers for personal gain and teruki has to experience what his life would have been like if mob didn't check him. for fun. and flavor.

and boy does it make for the most awkward post arc reunion ever bc they get back to reality and reigen and dimple are like OH THANK GOD and then they look at each other and it's like. uhm. where do I even start lmfao

I have a lot of specific scenes in mind but mostly that's the gist. pls feel free to talk to me about it tho it's my pet project

so heres my pitch for what happens before dimple shows up in the icmhwau:

teruki and mob are hanging out in the middle of one of black vinegars soccer fields. its after school and the sky is heavy and grey, but it hasnt started to rain just yet. mob snuck a milk carton on his way out so he could come see one of the stray cats that sometimes wander onto the school grounds. this one he knows from sitting by for terukis soccer practice over the last few months.

while hes bent down, making soft sounds and petting it, teruki is standing behind him, hands jammed in his pockets and sneering bc he doesnt do. exactly great. not being the center of attention. hes tapping his toe and waiting for mob to get it over with so they can go when theres this big crack of thunder overhead and the cat goes skittering off toward the trees- just as the sky opens up and theres one of those heavy late spring downpours.

teruki is taken offguard, bracing for the rain, when he realizes hes still stood there dry. mobs got a hand up, having thrown a barrier over them reflexively, and humming his disappointment. he stands, dusting his knees off, and when he turns around teruki tries to look like he hasnt just been standing there watching the whole time.

"can we go now?" rude. but no more rude than he usually is, so mob doesnt really mind. he hums his affirmation but pauses, and then shakes his head. teruki frowns and turns fully toward him in response.

mob kinda stands there, hands flexing and unflexing cause hes really not good at putting things into words in this au. it drags on long enough that teruki is just starting to pull away with a scoff when he is stopped cold like he took a stone to the head.

"teru."

that gets his attention in a big way that makes his stomach roil. mobs never addressed him like this before- maybe a soft hanazawa-kun when he needed to, but the nickname cuts straight to the core and he is on guard immediately.

"i.. was thinking."

and now he is feeling outright defensive. a thousand scenarios playing out right like is mob sick of this? is this going to be bad news? is he trying to sugar coat it? and then, worst case scenario; mob steps forward, and starts to reach for him. his hands are small and bruised, little scars and bandages wrapped around his fingers. teruki put those there, and it feels like an intimacy too sacred and mortifying to be broached.

so teruki panics.

"DONT TOUCH ME!" slapping his hands aside. "you just laid hands on that disgusting vermin, its probably diseased."

and mob stands there looking so shocked teruki feels a thrill of success. derailed. whatever was about to happen has been successfully derailed. he preens, starting to turn to pull the lead before mob can recover, but mob speaks before he can get very far.

"cats are actually very good at grooming." tone flat, dry. it gets under terukis skin. mob never objects.

"yeah right. like im going to hear about hygiene from a brute like you." baseless, and mean, the kind of cutting comment he throws around easy but it seems to catch mob off guard this time.

hes frowning, brows turned down and his hair ruffled by a wind that cant reach them through his barrier. teruki sneers and mob shoves him, hands splayed into his ribs in frustrated defiance. teruki scoffs and pushes him tumbling back onto his ass, standing over him.

& its just instinct tbh, at this point, learned experience from watching teruki get backed into corners with his mouth, when mob mutters, "youre mean." and when teruki looks surprised, he continues. "youre a very mean person."

which teruki is taken aback by. "oh, as if! you dont have a high horse, not when youre just some commoner who happens to listen to instruction better than the rest of them. like you havent picked plenty of your own fights, too." that sort of thing. "its embarrassing that youd even try to come after me when youre just some- some nobody."

& its clearly reaching its mark bc as teruki talks, mobs curling his fingers into the grass and bits of dirt and torn blades are starting to curl up into the stagnant, humid air around them. his hairs started to lift and he looks unhappy.

"oh dont look so surprised. you knew what this was. and beyond that- you dont scare me, kageyama. i could kick your ass and still-"

hes cut off by this dizzying woosh, this spike of energy that makes his head spin, and the vertigo only intensifies as he looks around and realizes the barrier is gone; its not that the rain isnt landing on them, its that the rain isnt landing at all.

mob was definitely not radiating unadulterated power like this last time. he may have.. miscalculated his approach.

& you can imagine it from there. teruki panics and lashes out first, which pushes mob over the edge and suddenly theyre fighting and its UGLY. it makes their initial fight look like a joke. it makes the soccer field look like a battleground. it knocks teru half conscious, held by the throat in mobs sweaty, burning grip with blood dripping into his eyes when hes got an abrupt sense of nausea and something eye piercingly green shoots out his nose with an unceremonious, "oh jesus, kid."

im not like, a writer, but you get the idea. fill it in to be better than i could do it LOLOL mob tried to finally put into words, somewhat, what he feels about teruki, which made teruki FREAK because he doesnt know how to be vulnerable like that, he lashes out at mob, mob lashes out back, the autistic immovable object vs the unstoppable adhd force leading into an rsd death spiral. messy. awful. mob knocks the snot (dimple) out of him lololol

AUGH im loving your au so far!! does all of this happen in season 2 or do they meet mogami earlier-- and if not, is everything else relatively consistent with canon once they get out?

im curious to know how theyd feel about each other and how theyd react to finally leaving (if they would at all), because that kind of relationship must take a toll LOL

it’s still season 2! i don’t know how it impacts them longterm but in the short term it’s very..

for mob, a lot of it is self degrading guilt as he’s prone to do. blaming himself and making no effort to reach out bc he doesn’t think teru would want to talk to him again after that mess. why couldn’t he see through it, do better, not treat him so poorly, etc. especially bc he was probably thrashing his ass AS dimple arrived to snap them out of it…. & teru is mortified obviously, that now shigeo has seen in depth the person he was before they met, but more than that..

mob goes home to his family and friends and teru goes home to an empty apartment. nothing about his living situation actually changed in mogamis world, he already was alone. it’s really difficult for him to parse, i think, bc mob is His Friend. singular. so he beats himself up until he realizes wait, in this situation i think kageyama would probably reach out to talk about it, right? apologize? and he whips out his phone immediately but…

Yes yes yes absolutely in love with the AU and once I’m out of deadline hell (college killing me) I 100% wanna make fanart for it. What sorta reputation do the two form amongst their peers? Like as another student attending the school how does everyone else perceive them

teruki is that untouchable kind of popular who initially bounces girl to girl but.. if you'll notice, bro doesn't flirt with another girl after meeting shigeo LOL so once he latches onto bullying mob, his attention gradually shifts entirely away from girls and to. well. 🏳️‍🌈. and once they work it out and mob becomes his guard dog, he seemlessly bolsters terus untouchable status.

they're very.. given a berth, treated with awe, no one rlly tries to talk to shigeo but teru still has to deal with confessions and gifts coming his way. he enjoys it bc it gets under mobs skin & his favorite thing on the planet is being the center of attention so lolol

since there both esper ruffians, I think kids try to pick fights like they're going to prove smtn, but they lose Hard every time. it makes them less approachable for sure, but no less middle school deified. the closest thing to a peer they rlly have is edano but his relationship to teru is contentious at best.

For the toxic au... how does the separation arc go there? Do teru and mob reconcile before the claw arc? Would their experiences change how the brocoli fight goes down? Aaaah I have so many questions I'm so obsessed I was literally thinking of this all day...

HMMM that's a fantastic question. I think the separation arc would be the best place to reconcile bc mob has so much free time for friends, but not seeing each other again until the claw arc would be dramatic.. the first time they see each other being after the house fire?? and then there's no time to talk one on one and it all goes to shit immediately after..

I think in that instance, after they take down Suzuki, it could almost lay like a rug over a hole, right? like oh thank god were normal. so glad that's over with. and then they hang out one on one for the first time thereafter and are immediately struck with the wait what are normal boundaries again? can I touch your arm, back, elbow, waist? can I lean in, can I say that? were we close like this before, does he feel that way too? and it's AWKWARD lololol

I figure it would probably be like; teruki does something impulsive and affectionate that snaps mob out of his own head and he says something candid that snaps terus anxiety in half like a wafer, and all of the moddled unsure feelings dissipate. what's left over is that deep seated affection & they're a lot more comfortable, like suddenly they remember how to just Be Friends. doesn't resolve the other 👀🏳️‍🌈 feelings but it's probably where the needle stays until post confession arc.
