actually the more i think of this book i just finished the more bonkers it is. the author spent maybe triple the time talking about bill stone and chevé than the krubera team even though chevé is BARELY in the top ten deepest caves and krubera was solidly number 1 until 2016. and yet even in the last part he spent more time talking about stone’s failed expeditions not even IN chevé but in the area trying to find a connecting cave than. THE ACTUAL KRUBERA TEAM THAT FOUND THE DEEPEST PART OF THAT CAVE…

#pers #it was WILD. 90% of what he said about klimchouk was in comparison to stone and then most of what he said about krubera was like #oooooh it’s so scary it’s so dangerous. he didn’t talk about any of klimchouks other expeditions or anything #even though he did that with stone. Like. #it was fairly obviously some attempt to redeem stone and also just bc his expeditions had more drama #but it was so fucked. an expedition of NINE found the deepest cave in the world (at the time he was writing) and he was just like #idk it was hard 🤷‍♂️. annoying ads #this author also straight up made up an ‘affliction specific to caves’ that was just a panic attack he gave a fancy name #and a lot of cavers were like. I told you those two asks were the only asks I got in my inbox. I did not get any prior asks. I apologize for that, but like I said, it's not my fault, it's tumblr's. I only blocked the original account, and then your previous burner after I posted those asks. Which, was pretty petty of me, I will admit. They just really took me by surprise, because to me, they were incredibly hostile and coming out of seemingly nowhere. So I responded in kind. It was shitty.
