not to be a booktok youth but fairest by gail carson levine is one of the best fiction books i've read all year

#i know its a kids book/YA at best but #honestly in terms of writing skill and complex and flawed characters and messaging #it was just *chef's kiss* #i saw it recommended in a youtube video breaking down the movie adaptation changes for ella enchanted #and after rereading ella enchanted as well i was in the mood for more #and genuinely. i think it's better or at least more complex in terms of characters than ella enchanted #i wish i'd read it when i was younger tbh but i think i hated the two princesses of baramore or w/e that one was called i was kind of done #w gail carson levine #should've stuck it out tho #side note i also LOATHE the ella enchanted movie #if they wanted to make live action shrek they should've #just done that #the book is so well done as a loving subversion #the movie is just a mess
