I love when I scroll down to the YouTube comments and there’s some kind of art snob down there telling the world about how that’s not really how anyone actually does it, even though the video is clearly of somebody doing it that way

#tonights adventure takes us to the wonderful world of the bodhran and how its never used for anything except a bass rhythm beat #never ever ever #also apparently real bodhran music is 'generations of irishmen beating leather with their bare hands' #im confused. is this not real bodhran music because its likely not made of real leather? or because the man playing is most likely not irish #or is it because hes not using his bare hands? #normally i would assume it was just someone making an enthusiastic comment about the art form but i cant read it that way #not when it was immediately preceded by insistence that nobody ever in the history of always has played a bodhran in the manner depicted #i dont know im not irish and i dont know that much about irish music #but i can tell you that drums as they appear in modern rock were initially meant to be a bass rhythm beat #but like? their use evolved? people figured out that you can do cool things with them and then that became part of the music? #im not mad im just baffled #flashbacks to the time somebody on a forum insisted that a traditional scottish ballad was nonsense #because nobody would build a well on a hill because youd have to dig further to get to the water #despite actual scottish people in the replies explaining that it was of cultural and religious significance #providing photos of historic sites that were wells on top of hills #and yet this guy continued to insist that nobody would ever do that
