Gajevy Week 2017 Bonus day

My attempt at writing steampunk. The problem is I left this fic 2 years ago and then things went to shit. So, I managed to find the time to finish this but not enough time to finish it before the 31st of January for the bonus day for Gajevy week. So, here it is.

It was bright and sunny when Levy ports at Hargeon with her airship. As a popular travelling book conservator, this day was the sunniest she has ever seen in Hargeon.

Levy made sure her airship was secured to the port before she made her way down to the town.

Levy made her way to the bookstore that had requested her earlier in the week.

The bookstore, Ye Olde Books, was located near the park. Levy walks by and sees children playing with toys in the park.

Levy walked into the bookstore and the manager took her to the back room where a couple of books stacked on a table laid there

The manager left her to do her job and went back to the front of the store.

Meanwhile, on the other side of town, Gajeel Redfox has been drinking beer in the pub

"Gajeel, you really should stop. We might get caught and we are also running out of money" his partner, an exceed named Pantherlily, said

"Lighten up Lily. We're havin' a good time here. We can get another airship before sundown and leave." Gajeel said

"Hey, that's a fine weapon you got there" a drunken male said to him. He touched the hilt and said "How about a trade huh? Your sword "

Gajeel drew his sword.

"What? A trade for my weapon? What's in it for me?"

The blade touched the neck of the man.

Pantherlily stood up with caution. He knew very well what Gajeel could do and he had quite a number of drinks.

The man smiled. "So it is you. Captain Gajeel Redfox of the Phantom Lord. Your bounty is 13 million Jewels!"

The whole pub gasped.

"You're going to make me rich. Hey you" the man said to another "Go get the guards" the man immediately ran out of the pub.

"Gajeel, we shouldn't be getting into more trouble than we're already in" Pantherlily said

"Like hell we're going to jail" Gajeel said and proceeded to attack the man who exposed him.

He sent the man flying and created an indentation on the wall.

A few men pounced onto Gajeel but he took them out with one hit

Pantherlily sighed "I guess if we get caught we can always get out of it"

Some tried to capture Pantherlily as he was small.

Unfortunately, Pantherlily transformed into his battle form and knocked them all out.

The guards came in right when Gajeel threw a guy towards the door. The whole line of guards fell down like a row of dominos.

"That's our cue. Let's go Lily!" Gajeel said and left the pub with Pantherlily behind him. They ran until they found an alley and hid there.

A few guards passed them and Pantherlily asked "so,what now?"

"We're going to take an airship" Gajeel said

"And which one do you suppose we take?"Pantherlily said

Gajeel pointed to the only visible airship he could see "That one"

Pantherlily followed Gajeel's finger. The only visible airship that can be seen from the alley.

"The coast is clear. We can go now" Pantherlily said

They both ran out of the alley and towards the airship.

The airship was smaller than Gajeel expected. Gajeel searched the cabin and only found books and some tools. There were no sort of weapons on board.

"Hey lily,there ain't any weapons on this airship"Gajeel said

There was no reply

"Lily?"He walked out to find a short, blue haired girl pointing a gun to his partner's head

"Gajeel?" she said

"Levy?" Gajeel replied

"What are you doing on my airship?" she asked

"There they are! Get them!"a guard said. A couple of guards began firing arrows at Gajeel and Pantherlily, as well as placing a few on the airship.  The rest began advancing onto the airship.

“ Hey watch it!” Levy shouted.

Gajeel quickly drew his sword and cut off the rope that was anchoring them to the port “Lily!”

Pantherlily grabbed Levy’s gun and took it from her

“wha-” Levy couldn’t catch what had happened and found that the oversized cat had taken her gun and told her to get the airship moving. Hoping to not get any more holes in her airship, she ran to start the engines.

Pantherlily used Levy’s gun to hopefully knock or kill some guards to buy them some time.

He was surprised that the bullets used weren’t normal bullets. They were shock bullets, bullets that release an electrical surge(or pulse) when hit.

“Shit, I have to be accurate with these things” Pantherlily said to himself

Gajeel was already drawing the drawbridge when a guard stepped on it. Gajeel pulled it back so fast the guard fell backwards.

“Hey shrimp get this airship moving already!” Gajeel yelled

“Hold on! I’m trying!” Levy responded

Soon the airship finally started moving and the guards were still firing arrows

The airship then gained momentum and left Hargeon.

When they reached a safe distance, Levy put her airship into autopilot and turned to Gajeel’s partner

“And you are?” she asked

Pantherlily turned back to his normal size and introduced himself

“I am Pantherlily. I met Gajeel on board Phantom Lord.” he said

“An exceed in Phantom Lord? That’s surprising.” Levy said

“I had been hearing that when I was still on the ship but now I rarely hear that.” he said

“What happened?” Levy asked

Pantherlily turned to his left to see Gajeel who was standing at the side of the airship with his arms crossed. Pantherlily turned back to Levy and spoke

“Gajeel was the captain of Phantom Lord and I was his right-hand man, until mutiny happened.”

Levy stole a glance of Gajeel and turned back to Pantherlily

“They marooned us on some empty house on a hill with nothing. When they left, Gajeel and I managed to find a small, damaged airship in that empty house.” Pantherlily said

“It was smaller than this airship but we had to get out. Gajeel was the one who fixed the whole airship. I have never seen anyone repair an airship so fast in my life.” Pantherlily continued

“We got off and headed straight to Hargeon, as it was the only place we knew that would have information on the whereabouts of Phantom Lord. So far no luck.”

“I see.”Levy said

Pantherlily returned Levy her gun. “Is this the only firearm you have?” he asked

“Yes,it is. I got it 2 years ago.” Levy said as she kept her gun.

“I’m going to rest.” Gajeel said suddenly and went into the cabin. Levy and Pantherlily watched him go in. Pantherlily saw the sad look in Levy’s eyes as Gajeel went into the cabin and closed the door.

“You seem to know Gajeel. If I may ask, how?” he asked. Levy looked to the floor and then to Pantherlily. “If you want to listen, you might want to sit. It’s a long story.” she said

Pantherlily,curious to know about his partner, sat down on the wooden floor of the airship. Levy chuckled a little before sitting down.

“We were just kids then. When we first met,he threw a stone at me.” she started “I was so mad at him, I started throwing stones at him. That probably sparked some form of friendship. He was constantly in my face and sometimes butted in when something happened.”

“He was the one who taught me about engines and flying. All the things that I couldn’t find in books” she said as she looked up at the twilight sky. “He also was the one whom had to save me most of the time and I never really knew why. I was always bullied for liking books and he never really seems to mind that fact as long as I read to him.” Levy smiled

Pantherlily spoke “Then, the one who gave you this gun is”

Levy nodded. She looked back at Pantherlily “Yes,Gajeel. He said he can’t protect me all the time. So he taught me how to use a gun and some weapons. We didn’t get to finish self-defense though.”

He looked at her “What happened?”

Levy looked back down “I made a career out of repairing books. A lot of bookstores around Fiore make requests for me to patch up books. Gajeel didn’t want me to leave. Even though he knows he can’t stop me.”

“After a while, I couldn’t find Gajeel anymore. He wasn’t at his house nor his hideout.” Levy said “With the money I earned, I bought an airship. It was small but it was perfect. I could go anywhere with it and get into any port. It didn’t have any weapons but I was okay with it.”

“The day before I left, Gajeel came to me. He handed me the gun and told me how to use it, when to use it and where to get bullets.” Levy said as she looked at the gun. “So far, this thing has helped me a lot but not for my airship. We have to land soon so that I can repair her.”

“Yes, but where? The military is looking for us and now of this day you.” Pantherlily said. “There is one place. It’s safe and the military wouldn’t think of looking there.” Levy said. "Where is it?" he asked.  "It's a guild called Fairy Tail. It's in Magnolia and it's not too far from here." she said

" Why wouldn't the military be looking there? "

"The whole guild is rowdy.Not even the military's best made Jaeger could take down  one person. "she said.

" What kind of guild is this?" Pantherlily shocked at the fact that someone could actually take down a Jaeger. The military’s latest and strongest mechanical soldier that had the power of a thousand men with an intimidating name. The last time he and Gajeel encountered a Jaeger, Gajeel got beaten real badly and it put him out of commission for 6 months. If that was the case, that exact same person could take on an army and win.

“It’s a sort of a guild that accepts jobs normal people wouldn’t want to do. We'll reach there by the morning with no disturbance"

" Then I suggest you go rest. I will stay out here and keep watch"

Levy looked at him with suspicion

"There is not much sense if I would pull apart this ship if we're airborne and there aren't any weapons here so we can't take back our airship." Lily justified.

Levy gave that a thought and let lily to  do so. Logically speaking, he was right. If he would to go after Phantom Lord, Gajeel would’ve killed him. If Levy and Gajeel left the airship, Phantom Lord would shoot him down and killed him before he could even step into the airship.

Levy opened the cabin door and saw Gajeel lying down with his arms crossed on the bed. How typical of Gajeel. He hasn’t changed one bit.Always looking like he’ll bite your head off when he gets the chance.  Levy knew Gajeel too well to know that he wasn’t sleeping and that position meant he wanted to talk.

“Why an airpirate Gajeel?”  Levy walked over to her dresser and took off her gun and holder. Gajeel wasn’t even surprised that she asked. She always thought things through unlike him. He was impulsive and never backed down from a fight. She thinked before she acted which was why she didn’t understand why Gajeel joined Phantom Lord.

“You left” he answered . Levy hated the way he answered it. As if nothing was wrong. “That’s not a reason Gajeel.”

“You left and I didn’t have anything holding me back from getting my revenge.”  he says (simply??). Levy scoffs. “Really Gajeel? Revenge? What are you even talking about?”

Gajeel turns around. He sighs.

“Remember my dad?” he says, back still facing Levy

“Metallicana? What about him?” Levy responds, frustrated

“He’s dead” Levy deflates once it was said. She has met Metallicana a few times, even though he had to leave for work by airship most of the time, he still loved Gajeel. “Oh gajeel”

“His first mate took him out. Poisoned. Right in front of me” “Gajeel…” she (look at those words)

“He didn’t know I was there. I couldn’t even try to save him because his murderer dragged the body away”

“Why didn’t you tell me?” “You started your career already. You looked so happy. I… I didn’t want to ruin that.”

She said nothing to him. Gajeel had always put Levy a priority before himself, even when they were kids.

“When you left, I took off to join Phantom Lord and got close to the captain. And then I got my revenge and became captain.” He continued. “It was good, until mutiny happened and they marooned us on some hill. Lily followed me.”

Levy didn’t reply him. All she could do was listen

“I don’t expect you to forgive me after what I did. It’s perfectly understandable if you don’t want to ever see me again. It would be for the best anywa-”

Levy cuts him off by hugging him from behind. She wraps both her arms across his waist.

“Stupid Gajeel. Do you know how much I missed you? Do you know how alone I was when you went missing?” she said, holding him tighter. Gajeel was in a daze because right now the girl he always cared about is hugging him. When was the last time they hugged? Right before she left? All he knows it’s been too long.

He turns around and wraps his arms around her and holds her tight. “I’m sorry. I really am.” He hears sniffles and pulls back. Levy is crying with her head low. “Hey, don’t cry.” He wipes her tears away and cradles her face in his hands “I missed you like crazy too. There ain’t a day that goes by that I wished you were right next to me.” Levy sniffles and starts tearing up again. Gajeel holds her to his chest and strokes her hair while she cries herself dry.

“I promise I’ll fix your airship but could you do something for me?” Gajeel whispered. Levy pulled back to look at Gajeel “What is it?” she lets out a sniffle and looks into his eyes. Gajeel suddenly feels like a child again, back to when he met Levy for the first time. The time when  she looked at him with adorable eyes and he didn’t feel anything until he became a teenager, that was when he found out he would do anything for her as long as she looked at him with those eyes.

“Could you read to me? I miss your voice” he said with hope.  She smiled and wiped her tears away. “Of course”

They were on the bed, Gajeel’s back on the wall with Levy on his chest holding a book in her hands. He can’t remember how long she’s been reading. He’s too busy loving this moment where it was like old times.

They shift a little bit and he sees something metal around her neck. Curious, he reaches for it and is (shocked). He kept it with her all along. Before she left, he made her a ring and gave it to her (a not so subtle way of saying I love you) while she gave him her bandana. It was the one few things he treasured and never let it out of his sight.

“Gajeel?” she spoke. She looked at him with curiosity. He could only smile. “You kept it” he said. “Uh.. yeah.. I mean you gave it to me and I couldn’t just put it away” she looked away to hide her blushing face.  Gajeel could feel his heartbeat getting faster and leaned down and kissed her on the cheek. She jerked and turned her head to face Gajeel. Before she could say anything, he buried his face in her hair and told her to keep reading. She was crazy blushing but she continued.

They fell asleep probably an hour later, cuddling each other. Pantherlily peeked in and smiled. “So that’s the girl he was talking about” he thought and went back on watch.

Morning came by and Pantherlily could see a building ahead. He walked over to the cabin  and woke Levy.

“Are we at the right place?” Lily asked. Levy rubbed her eyes and walked out of the cabin. Her eyes brightened at the sight of the building. “Yeah! This is the place!”

They landed at the port and were greeted by a blonde girl. “Levy! You’re back!” the girl said, she ran over and hugged Levy. “Hi, Lucy! Yeah, my airship needs some fixing. We ran into some trouble with the military.”

“We?”

Gajeel cleared his throat and gathered Lucy’s attention. “Lucy, this is Ga-” “I know who they are.” Lucy hisses “Why are they with you?” Lucy reaches for her whip on her hip but Levy stops her. “Lucy no! I let them follow me. Gajeel is an old friend and Pantherlily helped me. They’re not here to hurt us.” Levy said. Lucy took a few moments before she pulled her hand away from her whip. “Okay, fine. But one wrong move and I won’t hesitate.” Lucy said to Gajeel.

“Got it” Gajeel and Pantherlily said at the same time. Lucy brought them  inside the guild building and told them they could start working on her airship later.

“Don’t worry guys. They’re nice people.” Levy said. They enter the building and a tin can goes flying across the air and hits Gajeel on the head. “Oi Natsu!  What did I tell you about throwing things!” Lucy shouts. Gajeel glares at the person named Natsu.

“Oi, do you wanna fight?” Gajeel yells. “Huh? Oh hey! You’re Gajeel Redfox! Don’t think I ever fought Phantom Lord?” Natsu replies. “Wanna have a go?” Gajeel takes out his sword. “Let’s go!” Natsu puts on his pistol-gauntlets.

“I’m so sorry Lucy” Levy says regretfully. “It’s okay. This isn’t the first time a fight went down here. I just can’t believe how early this one is.” Lucy says with frustration.
