no one said byler is the first gay ship ever. but it is the first, (or one of the first?), mainstream queer ships in which there’s a secret queer character who everyone assumes to be straight but turns out to be gay in the final season. not only that, but this character is one of the main characters. and the other character in the ship has had a slow coming out arc too. Byler is groundbreaking because of this slow burn plot twist (which has clues planted throughout the show), as well as the fact that it’s in a non queer romance show that everyone and their mother watches. Byler copycats would hopefully improve on this formula

the only difference between byler and like 30 other major fandom ships is that MAYBE they get to smooch within the final season

because otherwise there are a gajillion other ships exactly like this

i wasn't disagreeing with it being cool if it actually DID become canon before the story ended im just disagreeing with saying that byler is the blueprint

"byler copycats" are just every ship ever copycats plus an added maybe kiss

not to compare but if byler becomes canon, people will go wooohoo! and if supernatural makes a 16th season i am positive destiel would quite literally shake the nation LMAO
