omg I recently went thro my collection as well😭😭 I had so many old ones that were unusable its crazy
choosing a fav brand tho is hard cause it depends on what I'm looking for
if it's a plain colour then there's a local brand where I live called Sacha that has THE MOST OPAQUE polishes ever omg and the colour selection is so pretty (especially the pastels omg they're to die for)
when it comes to glitter polishes colour club is so good (I've been trying to stretch out the life span of the gold holo one I have for so long its on its last leg) sinful colours has some really nice ones as well mainly shimmers tho (there top coat is also really good even tho it's on the thin side it dries quickly and that's good enough for me lol)
sorry I rambled I just really love nail polish and I don't ever get to talk about it 😭 but yh recently I've been getting into gel polishes and I got the brand beetles off of Amazon and it's been working pretty well I really like it
what are your favourites ???
right everyone shits on rimmel london but their creme polishes are GREAT and affordable even if the white needs two coats i get them all the time a lot of drugstore brands tend to be thin and watery but these have a pretty good consistency but my all time favourite brand for wide selection between different formulas finishes and colour ranges is holo taco even if it is a little pricier esp bc i need to get it shipped from the us but they have such a good RANGE of glitter jellies cremes holo mixes toppers chromes metallics etc and like watching cristine create the business and everything she puts into perfecting the formula and using the polishes for her own art genuinely i beleive they’re the best quality nail polishes i own they’re phenomenal

Primary Colors of Youth: A Love-letter to Growing Up in Chiang Mai
Red is the color of the songtaew, the Chiang Mai staple. As a Chiang Mai native, I have spent several memorable events riding on these hybrid trucks. Going to swim practice or to cruise around town with friends through summer, winter, and monsoon season these songtaews are always a constant. Chiang Mai is my home and it was also my parent’s home. When they were younger, there were still rice fields in the heart of Chiang Mai, and the songtaew was their mode of transportation. Drinking coke was a luxury and so was swimming in a pool. Now, my time in Chiang Mai looks a little different as the city evolved. I learned English alongside my Thai and grew up playing with those of different religions, ethnicity, or background when I was pushed from an early age to attend international schools. I learned to keep or to take off my shoes when entering a house without even asking, learned to say goodbye at a young age, and make new friends. I learned various phrases in other languages and to take ease of being with those I do not look like. The world came to me. Everything I knew was within the natural wall of our beautiful, panoramic mountains and most everyone I knew was inside of it. The Chiang Mai that my parents grew up in is far different from mine, but it is still our safe zone. This is our home and the red songtaew is still a constant.
Yellow is the color of our Volkswagen that is parked in my grandparents’ driveway. Like an heirloom in our family, the wheels and the rough leather interior passed through decades of new drivers in our family. Starting with my mom, then her younger sister, and finishing off with her youngest brother, the metallic walls of the stick and shift bug are tattered with fond memories of teenage freedom. It was first driven in Mae Kha Jan, a tiny one-road town about two hours away from Chiang Mai when my mother tested out her new car with her best friends. She started the car and the yellow beetle awoke with a growling roar. The young, smiling faces of her and her best friends excitedly greet the car, and off they went to explore everything and anything they wanted to. The yellow beetle made its way to my childhood as well. Mom is a chatterbox with millions of things to say and in our morning car rides she would continue to tell her vibrant and nostalgic stories that she made with the car. In the perfectly preserved condition without seatbelts or air conditioning, her eyes twinkle in yellow as she tells me these stories and I relish the memories that were once her reality. Mom is also tough and full of love; the most loving lady I know. The beetle still roars in yellow just like the first time.
Blue is the color of the button-up I wore for my kindergarten class photo. Diverse boys and girls lined up with cheeky smiles on their faces. In the swarm of girls wearing their Sunday’s best, hair tied up in cute bows, a small, short-haired, frowning child wearing a light blue linen button-up, paired with a pair of black suit pants can be seen. That child was me and my inspiration for this look was the best person I knew, my father. The rolled-up blue sleeves, the cold stare, the frown. I mimicked him exactly and my kindergarten self felt on top of the world to get to be him even if it was for a picture. A short-built and tempered man with slick black hair laced with gel. Tan skin from hours spent under the sun and thick glasses from eyes that read hundreds of books. A closet lined with linen or cotton button-ups and suit jackets. Rows of polished leather shoes. He is the hardest and most ambitious man, but he was also a wise mentor and gentle teacher with many stories and advice to share. My father casually told me once in our car ride to school when I was small, “We must always do things from the heart and take responsibility for one another because we will be overwhelmed by the response of what comes back within ourselves and the community” and I never forgot it since. He is the best guy I know and blue is his color.
...
As a visualizer and art appreciator, my mind mainly works in colors. When making working or writing, arrays of colors flash in my mind like sunbeams through a stained glass window on a hot day. I tie everything back to colors― a scent (like strawberry and red), a sound (like piano and maroon), or even memory (my favorite childhood doll and green). People like my father or mother can even be a color. Every little bit and piece from singular images or thoughts form a vast blur of a rainbow. Primary colors like red, yellow, and blue that compose every color on the color wheel are giant but random pieces of events or memories that form me. They are my parents, friends, surroundings, stories, moments which then dictate who I am in my 19 years of life.
With millions of lessons yet to learn, and more memories yet to make, I am young and I am still trying to make sense of the world around me. As a 19-year-old, this year will be my last year considered a teenager and like the rest of the world, I spent these few years in a COVID-19 reality. Like many other students, I did not have traditional high school graduation nor a freshman year college experience. Emails, 4 am presentations, and zoom calls became my normal. Technology, a concept that seems to be growing faster than we can grasp, became a friend as it bridged all my connections in one device. A professor is an email away, a friend is a phone call away, and any news, article, song, or trending tweet is a search away— the world was at my fingertips. The rise in dependency on technology allows information to spread faster than ever which could be beneficial but also destructive. It allows platforms for courageous conversations such as environmental and social activism to grow and create sub-communities all over the world but also to spread misinformation and tear each other apart. Whether we like it or not, technology has weaved its way into our world and is aiding a new generation of young people like me. Yet, in such unprecedented times, I was able to learn so much beyond what study did in school. The world is so wide with an infinite amount of stories to share, listen to, and experience and we are only here for a brief moment. As my experience grows, the color palette in my headspace expanded as well.
When I returned to Chiang Mai in the fall of last year, confusion and frustration filled my mind as I was blindly navigating college life and also home life. Being home and in front of a screen all the time, my world felt extremely limited until I started writing with Khun Pim. That was when my curiosity sprung again and I was extremely curious about what Chiang Mai youth is like today. The UN writes that youth spans from the ages 15 to 24 years old and I used that to set out my research interviewing everyone in that age range. Yet, I still had no answer. After pondering and drafts over drafts, I realized the person I was truly missing is myself. What does youth mean to me?
To me, the essence of growing up is not one continuous storyline; it is a combination of moments that add up to make who you are. Unlike age, which is equated with numbers, the youth had no end and no beginnings. It is an array of moments that bring you to triumph, joy, fun, or even quiet moments when you are authentically yourself. It is the colorful images in our heads; the red songtaew, yellow bug, or blue button-up-- the powerful, courageous, bold, forgiving, and ever-changing rainbow blur of life, and in these moments, small or large, make up the colorful and unique mosaic of our youth. So whatever Chiang Mai youth is, I know that the answer is within you and within me.

Top Cosmetic Ingredients That Vegans Should Avoid
There are a lot of people who are choosing to pursue a vegan lifestyle. While you can quickly achieve this lifestyle with the foods you consume, it can be a bit difficult when it comes to the cosmetic ingredients vegans should avoid. While I am not vegan, I avoid cruelty-free products (and yes, there is a difference). Hence I reached out to a dear friend of mine who is vegan. She is always educating me on cosmetic ingredients derived from animal products or commenting: "I can't use that it is not vegan." These numerous conversations prompted me to write this blog post, especially those who are new to the vegan realm and may not be aware of the ingredients they should avoid.   To help educate you to navigate through the ingredients label, we put together a list of cosmetic ingredients that vegans should avoid. You will notice as you read through the list that a lot are familiar names, some of which you may not realize are derived from animals.  At the same time do not skip over them as their are VEGAN ALTERNATIVES!!! So without further ado, here are the top 14 non-vegan ingredients commonly used in the beauty realm. Top 14 Cosmetic Ingredients That Vegans Should Avoid
1. Cochineal Dye This dye, sometimes called Carmine, or natural red 4, E120, and C.I. 75470 on the ingredients list, is used in lots of pink or red beauty products like blushes and lipsticks. Unfortunately, most people that use products with Cochineal Dye don't have a clue that it's made from BUGS, aka crushed beetles. These beetles eat lots of red berries, and when they are crushed down, a red dye is extracted from them and used to color beauty products.  Another thing I just learned today is that it takes approximately 70,000 insects to get crushed to produce only a pound of dye! Kind of evil if you think about it.  For me, this ingredient has a significant allergen factor, which is why the FDA is required to disclose any food ingredients on the label.
Before you get bugged out, you can easily buy matte lipstick from cruelty-free beauty product providers who don't use this dye, so there's no need to put crushed bugs on your skin. To ensure you are purchasing Carmine-Free beauty products, always check the label for Cochineal Dye, Carmine, natural red 4, E120, or C.I. 75470.
2. Shark Squalene I am bringing this one up as there is vegetable squalene, so I do not want any vegan to 86 this ingredient before doing your research. Vegetable squalene is a fantastic ingredient that helps lock moisture in the skin and helps the skin appear more vibrant and healthy. On the other hand, animal squalene oil, which is also used in skincare, is derived from the liver of sharks, and while jaws may be scary, what is even more frightening is punishing them for our vanity purposes. Thankfully, the anger from many on using squalene from sharks led to the creation of vegetable squalene, which can be sourced from gluten-free plant-based sources like olives.
3. Tallow Tallow (Oleic acid - aka oleyl stearate, oleyl oleate) is one of the most popular ingredients you will find in cosmetics and personal care products. This ingredient is commonly used in eye makeup, lipsticks, foundations, even shampoo, shaving soap, and skincare products. Tallow is the fat derived from the fatty tissue of sheep or cows. This one may be a bit harder to avoid because it's frequently used. However, as the vegan beauty market grows, you have more options for products that don't use Tallow.
4. Gelatin Gelatin is one ingredient I've avoided since childhood because of my mom, not wanting us to eat pork. Most vegans or those who do not eat pork are aware that this ingredient is used a lot as a binding or thickening agent. But did you know that it's also used in a lot of different beauty products?
Gelatin is made in a very similar way to Tarrow, so you need to make sure that you find beauty products that don't contain it. Unfortunately, manufacturers will often try to trick you by giving it a lot of different names. It may also be listed on the ingredients as a gel, hide glue, kosher or halal gelatin, and isinglass. You usually find it in any product with a creamy consistency, so always check the label carefully.
5. Guanine Ever wondered what makes your nail polish, eye shadows, and highlighter shimmer and sparkle? The ingredient responsible for this effect is guanine, a light-diffusing material found on dead fish scales. Yes, after the fish has died, their scales are scraped off and then soaked in alcohol to give that frosted, shimmer look.
6. Retinol This one was a downer for me as retinol is a good source of vitamin A and is a fantastic anti-aging ingredient. You can find this ingredient in so many anti-aging skincare products. You can also find it in prescription-strength products under the name of Retina-A, Tretinoin, and Tazarotene, which is the strongest of the bunch. However, if you are trying to stick with Vegan beauty products, you must know where the retinol in your beauty products comes from. Many products are derived from animal products like eggs, chicken liver, beef, or fish. Thankfully, there are a lot of natural plant sources of retinol as well. It can be found in vegetables, like carrots, potatoes, and pumpkins, for example. A lot of the retinol found in beauty products these days is man-made in a lab, so it's perfectly safe for vegans...YEAH. This is good news because it means that you don't have to miss out on all of the fantastic benefits of retinol, but you need to double-check the label and do some research to make sure that it comes from plant sources instead of animals or that it is man-made.
8 Other Cosmetics Ingredients Vegans Should Avoid There are a lot, and to help shorten this post, I will list some other common non-vegan ingredients to look out for.
Lanolin- found in sheep's hair
Alternative plant oils- coconut, olive oil, and shea butter
Glycerine- comes from animal fats
Alternative- coconut oil or soya
Stearic Acid- derived from the stomach of pigs, cows, and sheep. Nothing like sticking pig stomach on your pits, YUK. But this is a common ingredient found in deodorant.
Vegan Alternative. This is tricky as it has the same name (also called stearic acid); hence you have to do your research.
Collagen- WTF, this is great for anti-aging. But vegan beauties, no worries as there are vegan collagen alternatives.
Elastin- Another anti-aging ingredient commonly found in the same products as collagen is extracted from animal bones and muscles.
Alternatives- Hylaronic acid and MSM
Keratin- This is a popular ingredient uses in shampoos, and to straighten your hair makes sense as it comes from the horns and hair of some animals.
Animal Hair- This one is obvious, but it is not apparent where it is used; hence I am bringing it up.  Animal hair is commonly used in the bristles of makeup brushes, even eyelashes.
Alternatives- look for synthetic bristles.
Noone Wants To Smell Like Poop!
Well, this one is a bit contradictory if you ask me. But, the ingredient Castoreum, is commonly used in perfume, that we wear, excuse my french, to not smell like ass, but yet this ingredient is a secretion that comes from the anal glands of beavers. Now this one takes the cake! Well, in all seriousness, the scent does not stink from my research. Since beavers can't smell that well,  they use their Castoreum in part to mark their territory. The smell is a combination of vanilla and raspberry with floral hints, Castoreum carries information about a beaver's health and helps to make distinctions between family members and outsiders. But the thought is still nasty!
To Sum It Up On Cosmetic Ingredients That Vegans Should Avoid There are tons of non-vegan ingredients, and since I am far from a pro on this. My suggestion, when it comes to people looking for vegan and all-around safe beauty products, is to focus on products that are EWG verified.  To be a verified product, the brand must provide full transparency of ingredients on the label (including fragrance ingredients), follow good manufacturing practices to ensure its safety, and are free of dangerous chemicals.

Conservation ag increases beneficial biodiversity, supports weed control
A recent study published in Agriculture, Ecosystems and Environment demonstrates that conservation management of farms increases the abundance of carabid beetles that consume the seeds of weeds in crop fields.  Researchers examined 67 fields in California.  They determined whether or not conservation agriculture practices were in place, and analyzed whether the amount of time in which conservation practices were being utilized and the makeup of the surrounding landscape affected the amount of beneficial weed predators on the farm.  They found that after four years of conservation agricultural practices, carabid beetles were more abundant and their consumption of weed seeds was higher than in fields without conservation agriculture practices regardless of the surrounding landscape.  However, when farms implementing conservation practices for less than four years were positioned near natural grasslands or other fields with arable crops, the benefits of weed predation were seen earlier.  The authors conclude that both field management and surrounding landscape can be used to enhance the abundance of carabid beetles and the amount of weed seed predation.

Glitter time on these nails, boi! Heart gel manicure 💜 Can't stop, won't stop with the vegan mani! Don't forget to ditch the nasty shellac! Opt for gels for a cruelty-free option. Side note: do you know how many times I've had nail techs try to convince me that it's the same thing? ITS NOT. Shellac is a by-product of the lac beetle. While some places do refer to their gels as "shellac" and they make not actually be made with shellac, there is a very noteworthy difference. Educate! Check out the article "40 CRUELTY-FREE + VEGAN NAIL POLISH BRANDS" by @ethicalelephant 🐞 Her site is full of factoids and other fun stuff to help us all work together to not step on anybody else's toes (or wings) 💚🌎
