Overall the star blazers remake seems pretty mediocre but I did cry a lil bit when they brought red scarf out for the crew saying goodbye to earth

#i kinda just wish i could watch the original tho lol #the new charachter animation is way better but the yamato itself looks so unimpressive #all the cgi stuff is just flat and lifeless #also lmao at them making a plot point out of nova looking exactly like the 2 other women on the og show #its not just silly character design guys shes an alien #whoever directed this show is not great at making emotional bits land #the tone of the show has just been in mezzo-land the whole time #im just barely starting to learn the names #theyre all still the eng names in my head lmao #the nationalistic stuff is a lot harder to miss now that im not 5 #captain Okita whos besties are named tokugawa and hijikata take out the Yamato japanese warship to go beat back the blue eyed blond dudes #who are nuking the fuck out of earth #the ep where they destroy the pluto base was called 'the sun sets on pluto' #i think in the og dub of the og show they played like the imperial japanese anthem or smth when the yamato rose out of the sea bed #very much winning the war in space they lost in WWII #tbh with this in mind i kinda like that they renamed the ship the Argo in the eng localization #just bc the conflict in the show is worldwide and also fuck imperial japan #i do think the gamilans are meant to be nazis more than americans though #the show is a very mixed metaphor
