Here I am with a few posters from a 1935 movie titled, "The Bride of Frankenstein". It's kind of misleading because Frankenstein was the doctor, but the bride was created for Dr Frankenstein's creation. Deceptive marketing is nothing new.

⁣⁣In the book by Mary Shelley, Dr Frankenstein destroyed the creature's bride before she was complete, and the creature took it out Dr Frankenstein's wife. Sort of like a cat with redirected aggression, only a little more severe .

⁣⁣In the movie though, Dr Frankenstein, played by Colin Clive, completed the female creature, who was played by Elsa Lanchester. When she was presented to the male creature, played by Boris Karloff, she reacted poorly. She even hissed. Arranged marriages usually have problems, plus she may have been confused if she'd seen Boris in some previous roles, like in "The Mummy" or "The Mask of Fu Manchu".⁣⁣

Whatever the reason, the creature did not accept rejection well, and he blew the whole castle up with the bride and himself inside. No need to be sad though. Frankenstein's creation, played by Boris again, would be back four years later in "Son of Frankenstein".⁣⁣
