Symphogear XV Episodes 03-05
Tumblr media
Even if the enemy defeats me I won't lose to myself.
Can't believe I'm finally back to Symphogear.
This was THE show I wanted to be consistent and post every week and it made me feel like crap the fact that I failed myself in this department. But I'm back on my feet and now we're doing this every week till this show ends NO. MATTER. WHAT. (I know I shouldn't be making promises, but I need to keep repeating this for my brain to assimilate I'm being serious).
Like I've done with Aikatsu and Prichan, these episodes will be tackled in two posts so this one will cover episodes 3 to 5, and the next will be for 6 and 7 so that on Saturday I can post Episode 8 alone. Now, enough of babbling because I have a lot to go through.
Tumblr media
So, I've gotta be honest, I don't like Episode 3. Yes, there's some interesting there, but overall I got really bored by this episode, and this may be one of the reasons why it took me so long to talk about it. I've watched this episode 3 times and it just got more boring with each time I revisited it.
It’s not to say this episode hasn't done good things. The conversation between Tsubasa and her grandpa was heavy and painful to watch, and it was beautiful, I can't deny it. Also, the reveal of he being the main villain of this season was pretty good as well, though I have my concerns about it.
Tumblr media
The highlight of the episode to me was Shirabe and Kirika. Their comedy scenes were great, I love their fight, and Shirabe's new transformation is GORGEOUS, I can't stress enough how much I love the concept of figure skating and her yo-yos and all still somehow relates to her saws. There's nothing I can complain about there.
The thing is, looking at the episode as a whole it isn't a good experience, at least to me.
Tumblr media
Gladly Episode 4 does a complete 180º turn over and it is EXCELLENT!
I like how they're being very objective, they are not wasting time, the end of episode 3 set Tsubasa's grandpa as a villain, at the beginning of this one we already see him in action, and by the end of this episode, we already see his machinations on move.
And is very interesting that at the same time that they're rushing with one villain, we're taking time to learn more about Noble Red in homeopathic doses. And finally seeing Vanessa more was a bonus to me since she's my favorite.
Tumblr media
While we're still talking about the villains I love the technique they used and I love how smart their plan was. I honestly thought they would take the best in this one and we would see the same old thing of breaking the gears and leaving Elfnein to create a new power-up, BUT NO. SAINT GERMAIN HAD SOMETHING O SAY ABOUT IT! And that was the best fucking part of this episode.
Tumblr media
I swear to god, I jumped out of my chair when Hanasaku Yuuki started playing and Saint Germain's voice came out singing showing that this is a motherfucking duet to end all duets. This scene made me so happy, I wasn't expecting this at all, I think no one was, and even when Saint Germain appeared to talk with Hibiki in the void inside he philosopher stone I thought it would be only that, you know? Like just spiritual support, kinda like what Finé did for Shirabe back in G. BUT NO SHE GOT THERE, SHE GAVE THE NEW POWER UP AND SHE FUCKING KILLED IN THAT FIGHT WITH HIBIKI.
Tumblr media
Sorry for all those caps but I was literally shaking with excitement because of that scene, it overshadowed everything else this episode has done, I even had forgotten Maria's new transformation scene was shown in this episode and I LOVE MARIA, I SHOULD CARE MORE ABOUT THAT. But no, all I had in my mind was Saint Germain, and Hanasaku Yuuki was stuck in my head for the past 4 weeks because of it.
Tumblr media
Let me start talking about Episode 5 right away before I spent two hours talking about Saint Germain non-stop.
This episode was an odd one. I expected that this one would be more focused on the bureaucracy and the politics involved with S.ON.G.'s take over, but that actually got resolved way too quickly? I don't know if this was on purpose so that it could bite them in the ass later on, but I don't think it was a good decision.
Tumblr media
We got to see the girls (trying) having some fun and I kinda liked, but everything was shown so fast I couldn't connect with that moment as much as I think I was supposed to. I think Vanessa's flashback could've been taken of this episode and put it in the next one so this way it could've been used in a better way while also freeing up some time that they could've used for more scenes of the girls going out.
Though I liked Miku's confrontation with Hibiki, I think this moment happened right now like this to tie in with moments that are probably coming later this season, because I really don't think Miku is dead. They tried to make as such at the ending but I highly doubt that this is the case since they want to use "God's power" and Miku is free from the original sin and she can use said power, and they definitely have that information that was either given by them for Fudou or it was something they got from the inspection. But I don't have to speculate as much since I'll be watching episodes 6 and 7 very soon so I'm gonna hold myself from making theories.
Tumblr media
The last thing I wanna talk about this episode is Tsubasa. I'm legitimately scared for her, if what we've seen in his episode is the real effect of invading the seal then this will be really dangerous for her, something really fucked up can and will happen and the aftermath of it will be really terrible for her and I don't know if I'm ready to see Tsubasa getting deeper and deeper in this sea of darkness. LET TSUBASA BE HAPPY PLEASE.
Tumblr media
Now in a more general note, with these three episodes now we've seen all the transformations for the girls and I'm really pleased with all of them, I already mentioned Shirabe's but Tsubasa's is gorgeous as well and I also like Maria's. If I would put them on a rank from the one I like the most to the one I like the least it would go like: Shirabe - Tsubasa - Hibiki - Maria - Chris - Kirika.
In the song department though I'm quite disappointed, from the four new songs I only liked Maria's, maybe when I get to listen to the full versions and without background noise of fights and such my opinion may change, but for now, from what we've seen on the show, Maria's song is the only one that pleased me.
Tumblr media
And as a final note that isn't exactly related to the episodes, it’s a question I have about something I was thinking the other day. Have anyone from the staff come forth and said that Noble Red is an homage to Go Nagai's characters? Because like, Vanessa is clearly Cutie Honey, she's an android like her and she looks exactly like Hurricane Honey, she also has the missile boobs like in Mazinger. And Milaarc can be seen as a reference to Devilman. The only one I'm not sure about is Elza, but my knowledge of Go Nagai isn't very extensive so she may be referencing a character I don't know. I would love to get more insight on this so if any of you have some info I'm not aware of PLEASE SHARE. XD
I think that's it for now. Next time, episodes 6 and 7 and hopefully episode 8 on Saturday. See you guys soon.
