i might be late to this conclusion but the plot meaning of running up that hill is that max feels like it should’ve been her and not billy dying that night???? if she could swap their places?????

so technically will came out to mike at some point before s3? cause there’s a scene in 3x03 of mike saying “it’s not my fault you don’t like girls” and will not protesting to that and just looking hurt?

jfc i love that show so much y’all have no idea. not because it’s perfect. not because i don’t want to fistfight the duffers in denny’s parking lot. not because it’s overly original or raw. because really? it’s none of those things
but it doesn’t have to be. i will get sappy here and say what it is instead. it is a once-in-a-generation phenomenon. it is a product of so much dedication and nostalgic love and tunnel-vision deliberation to make the derivative feel genuine. you’ve heard that tale a million times, but did you hear it from them? i am a slut for intertextuality, sue me, but that’s beside the point. the cast said that the set feels small and nothing like the end vision. because the story, as overused as the compound parts of it are, is big and alive. yes, the creators sometimes get lost in that story, it eats them whole, it eats us whole, but what else is art for? it has its demogorgon face all around my head.
a bunch of teenagers fighting monsters, and what of it? not much, except you cry despite yourself, you cry and laugh and facepalm and get on your horses of different heights according to the issues at hand. those made-up lives engage with yours. because most of the time the creators know what it’s all about. it’s this complex world creating and recreating itself endlessly, fractally, not because the show is precise and meticulously researched every step of the way (hello anachronisms) but because its soil is fertile and vastly reaching
but you’re talking about any piece of art that people like to expand on later? i am and i am not. the duffers and the entire cast and crew tapped into something special here, something star trek and lotr and other few cultural phenomena did. it’s that feeling that you’re reluctantly getting into it because of the hype, only to find out that it’s truly good. many things have magnetism (cough big media coverage) but how many end up having a soul? how many are alive and breathing? stranger things is that example. it’s advertised, merchandised, promoted and shoved into your face– yes, a hundred percent. but when you’re finally watching it, it wraps you in this soft blanket, it blocks all the noise, and you’re just this person, in your own head at first, but being pulled into the narrative by gentle slimy demogorgon arms (ok this metaphor’s getting weird). it’s just some guy world at first. and then suddenly it’s real magic. as in, actual, happening-before-your-eyes magic. storytelling so good and awful and repetitive and one-of-a-kind and problematic and complex and inspiring and toooootally tuuuuubular that it doesn’t feel like you’ve found it, or like it’s finally hunted you down, but rather that you’ve found each other. it’s home where you didn’t expect to find one. it’s home.
