Pro tip: if you ever suffer any kind of personal/medical/family/whatever emergency and your place of employment’s response is anything other than “please take all the time you need, let us know if you need anything, we’re thinking of you,” start applying to other jobs asap because you deserve better.

#file this under 'lessons I learned way too late' #my last job I was in a major car accident a few months after starting #genuinely I still don't know how I survived it #and I got a card and then 'oh well you haven't been here long enough for full benefits sorry hands are tied' #then 'are you SURE you can't do your fair share of travel? everyone else is already so busy w/o picking up your share #meanwhile I literally couldn't move my neck and was still deeply traumatized #and in hindsight went back to work way too early and caused myself more psychological damage #this week the two leads for one of our biggest projects that was set to launch this week were suddenly called out #only response was 'oh no - I'm so sorry to hear that - take care of yourself/your family - let us know what you need' #work can wait. projects can wait. annoying clients can wait. #I accepted being treated like shit for so long because I thought that's just what work was #and it doesn't have to be #you are giving so much of yourselves every day to your employer the LEAST they can do is treat you with respect #personal
