🇭🇹🔥🎬 @mennanmenfilms I never would have thought in my lifetime, 2 major earthquakes and a President’s assassination would have struck Haiti. With all these storms, there was still something pretty special happening. Haitians on the ground were banding together with the resources they had and using the key ingredient to all solutions - SOLIDARITY. Absent from world media, but circulating all over social media, where Haitians being the first responders. Our non-profit @fepouli partnered with @artistinstituteht and commissioned 3 filmmakers to document what solidarity meant to them in this time. What was birthed was Men Nan Men Films. 🇭🇹📽☀️• @rachelle_salnave I would have never imagined a 2nd Earthquake would have struck Haiti literally in the same month the President of the country was assassinated in the summer of 2021. Like many in the Diaspora, I wanted to help and be part of the emergency relief. What I discovered was very different than the last Earthquake in 2010. There was a clear message “Haitians can help Haitians.” Haitians on the ground did not want the failed foreign NGO Aid. They wanted the financial and logistical assistance to help their own. As a filmmaker, I wanted to see this solidarity in action. Videos were circulating from bystanders filming this solidarity experience but I wanted to know the story of the people who were really working Hand in Hand together. So I collaborated with Artists Institute Haiti and got our non-profit, FePouli to commission 3 filmmakers to create short documentaries of what solidarity meant for them. What was birthed are three varied stories that share the results of working “men nan men” (hand in hand) @mennanmenfilms. SAVE THE DATE and join us for an evening of solidarity as we celebrate Haitian Heritage Month at Pérez Art Museum Miami on Thursday, May 12th beginning at 5pm. A special screening of my short award-winning film @madamepipifilm will also accompany the evening.
