I’ve seen a lot of people asking me for recommendations to shows similar to Eagles, so while we all wait for season 2 news I thought I’d make this post for you guys!

Obviously, if you haven’t SKAM or its remakes yet then that’s my go-to recommendation.

If you like the SKAM format with social media and real-life updates you’d love Blank and Lovleg, both Norwegian shows with translations available on Tumblr:

Blank | In a successor series to Skam, we meet 19-year-old Ella, who lives in Oslo with Susanne and her boyfriend Mats, and can’t decide what to study. On day Ella meets Simen, and falls head over heels in love.

Blank is like as a more grown-up Skam where we meet people who are in their 20s but it’s still very much relatable. Some people might think that season 1 is way too slow but imo it made the show feel even closer to reality that way. Season 2 has a different cast and main - 19-year old Zehra who’s studying at college and dreams of being a DJ. I love both seasons but season 2 has a quicker beginning and it definitely feels like more things are happening.

Lovleg | Gunnhild is 15 and moves to Sandane to start at Firda high school. She moves into a dorm house together with Sara, Alex and Peter.

Lovleg has teens in high school who live in a village (Sandane). The scenery is incredibly beautiful and definitely highlight the more isolated parts of Norway. Gunnhild, the main, is very socially awkward and sometimes you will even turn off the show because of second-hand embarrassment. Despite some of the more childish moments, the show is pretty relatable with fun characters.

If you’re looking for Swedish shows and movies, I have to be honest and say that we don’t have a lot of well-produced and high budget lmao. But a classic Swedish teen movie (that people actually like) would be Fucking Åmål, also known as Show Me Love.

Fucking Åmål | Teens Elin and Agnes are schoolmates. Elin is upbeat and popular, while Agnes is morose and friendless. And both girls are very frustrated with life. Elin dreams of fleeing their dull Swedish town. Agnes dreams of Elin. Though Agnes has never acted on her feelings, it’s widely rumored she’s a lesbian. But when Elin kisses Agnes on a cruel dare, it leads to an apology, a growing closeness between the girls and a plan to solve the problems of both.

There’s also a Swedish show that recently came out on Netflix and it’s very high-budget. I haven’t actually seen it and it’s a lot more serious than the other shows so it might not be your cup of tea, but I’ll add it anyway.

Quicksand | After a tragedy at a Stockholm prep school, high school student Maja finds herself on trial for murder; based on the best-selling novel.

I also really recommend Derry Girls and My Mad Fat Diary. The former is way more comedic while MMFD talks more about mental health and fitting in when you’re different. Both shows take place in the 90s.

Derry Girls | Following Erin and her friends as they grow up in a world of armed police in armored Land Rovers and British Army checkpoints in 1990s Northern Ireland and attempt to navigate the highs and lows of being teenagers.

My Mad Fat Diary | Set in 1996 in Lincolnshire, the show tells the tragic and humorous story of a very troubled young girl, Rae, who spent four months in a psychiatric hospital for attempted suicide. After finally leaving the hospital, Rae reconnects with her best friend Chloe and her group, all who are unaware of Rae’s mental health and body image problems and her four-month stay in the hospital.
