Don't stress the small stuff. When you plan your trip, don't get hungover on the route too much, or the tool tube you want to fit, and what is the best riding jacket or soft luggage. Just get going, you will quickly wear into what works for you and whatnot, and if it does not work you will make a plan to get it to work. Even today we try new things, products, ways to pack, riding gear and equipment. All to see if we can pack more compact, carry less or just for gear that will last longer. Over time from all the testing, we have learned some valuable lessons. Many of those school fees we share on our website. We were really lucky with the weather gods smiling on us as we headed South into Patagonia. The days held up well with good sunny warm weather, although it was already starting to go into autumn. The mountain slopes turned a beautiful yellow. That meant we could stay longer in places like El Chalten and El Calafate near the Patagonia ice field. If only our equipment can age aswell as these old dinosaurs looking rocks. Saying that, there are kit and equipment you can buy cheap and they will last or be chucked away after a trip. Some stuff we have learned overtime time is best to close the eyes and buy proper stuff. One example is we only carry 3 Tshirts each. Cotton just doesn’t last, they are heavy, take long to dry, and stink like an over ripe mango after a short while. We moved over to Merino wool clothes and although more pricey they last exceptionally long. Our 1st ones were @icebreakernz shirts. Then @klim came out with their range. They are more made for the harder working activities on bike trips. Ours are 4 years old now and still going wel. They don’t miff and stink up when not possible to wash regularly. They are also lightweight and pack small. For everyday use and comfort there’s not much that can beat Merino. @klim uses a blend of Merino and Nylon which make things even betterrer. 😅👊🏻😎 We’re not sponsored and our travel kit will have more on the kit we use in a few weeks. Northern Argentina boast some incredible colourful landscapes. Stock suspension is rarely up to the job for a loaded overlander bike. It is also one of the costliest expenses when they dump the oil and gas. Chileans told us a few times they refer to Chile as the land of fire and ice. Well with about 500 volcanoes considered active, 60 of which have had recorded eruptions in the last 450 years, they sure need to offer the gods better sacrifices than vegetables. They need to up the game to meat or jewels or even a virgin maybe. With so many volcanos I won't take any chances if I am them. 😁 As for ice, they have that in abundance in Patagonia.
