Random fic question: why do you ship your OTP?

*flails at picture for a solid minute*

Okay, I'll use words. lol

I watched the original Battlestar Galactica when I was a kid, which was the right time to see it, but when I learned Edward James Olmos would play Commander Adama in the '03 reboot, I knew this version would be Something Different. Deeper.

From that moment on I was like an imprinted duckling. I didn't bother to learn anything more about the cast (though the O HEY STARBUCK AND BOOMER ARE GIRLS THIS TIME was pretty hard to miss) or any changes to the storyline. I didn't need to. I committed to the miniseries on EJO's casting alone.

Aaaand then Mary McDonnell.

Of course I was impressed by Laura Roslin and Mary's portrayal of her from her first scene. And with every interaction between President and Commander, my certainty grew that here was the relationship I'd be coming back for. By the time Roslin confronted Adama with her immortal "we need to get the hell out of here and we need to start having babies," I was hooked, sucked in, totally gone. At this stage I had no assumptions about whether said relationship would eventually turn romantic … but the seeds of hope were planted, and started sprouting fan fiction almost immediately.

With Bill and Laura, not only do we have two monumentally talented actors with chemistry to burn, but also two beautifully drawn, multilayered characters who just keep getting deeper as the series progresses. And their relationship deepens too. You like Enemies to Lovers? Try Wary Colleagues to Enemies to Reconciled Colleagues to Friends to Flirtatious Friends to Longing to Lovers. And it's not a 100% linear progression. Bill and Laura support each other (after the, y'know, the coup thing) but they are also two strong-willed people who know how to hurt each other. But their bond stays solid in spite of every argument. Real and true at the same time.
