whenever i mention something problematic a driver has done and in response get “EvErhyy DhriVer Iz ProbLemAtig” trying to imply that mine is too, but i throw in an undo reverse card that is nico rosberg, whose only crime is being born in monaco and being cursed with dominant powerhouse of an immunity
he was born in weisbaden, germany 🤓👆 and was raised there for 4 weeks of his life before growing up in monaco

i get nico and his reasons were valid he was obviously right to do what he felt he had to do, but they thought he ran from the fight because that's exactly what he did lol i'd never expect his competitors to not be annoyed or to relate
i have too dedicated half my life to a sport and to me that retirement would feel as if he'd scored a goal and then took the ball home with him idk
you aren't alone in that thought, a lot of people in f1 think that about him.
but he didn't score and take the ball home. he won the championship. the literal pinnacle of the sport and his ambitions. he won the World Cup and retired, the literal messi fairytale ending
he retired on top because his dream was fulfilled. but that very act of walking away from a 100 mil contact, instead of going again in the best car where his seat was secured -- it's unprecedented. knowing when to quit, to be fully satisfied and leave the sport forever is incredibly rare.
you can call it cowardice. f1 is a sport people rarely know how to quit because they've been driving since they were 5 years old, so even looooong after their glory years they still stick around in whatever team will have them, driving for p16, as seb and jenson and kimi and michael all others did -- even lewis last won a race 2 years ago. after the disappointing end to their f1 career they immediately jumped into another series whether that's ROC or Le Mans etc, there's no cold quitting motorsport. you can see it as lifelong passion or ykno in football when players take the corpses of their career to die in saudi leagues for a cash grab. it's all a matter of perspective.

brocedes reconciliation is never going to happen because lewis won't see the complimentary things nico says about his driving on commentary but he WILL see his yes men failed music producer friends shading him for not deepthroating him enough and assume nico's been bitching about him, reaffirming his cognitive biases~
anyways would love to see spinz in an f1 car going 300km/h since he knows so much 😋 I'm sure his neck can handle it

that talk about self belief is really important and something I think other drivers could benefit from hearing in f1, which keeps pushing the "having that dog in you," "he has a championship mentality but he doesn't," and really just ideologies that further stigmatize mental health struggles. it's refreshing to hear a world champion say something like that actually.
you have to be able to contextualize nico is saying this NOW, almost 8 years after he retired. he has no skin in the game now.
in 2016 and before, he was absolutely saying to the media "of course I believe I can be world champion" regardless of he did or not.
because the f1 media landscape is brutal, as much as we talk about #authenticity why on earth would you hand them this insecurity on a silver platter? can you imagine how fucked his mental health would be if every time lewis won a race, the articles say "rosberg, who believes he can't win, proves it again by losing to his teammate." ???
it is ultimately a sport, and an insanely competitive one at that. you can't be saying self-defeating rhetoric in public, not when you're the face of 500 ppl who work for you and on your car every weekend. how demotivated would the engineers and pit crew feel, if the driver they're working blood sweat and tears for doesn't even believe in himself?
ultimately, in sports some people DO believe they've got it, and some fake it til they make it. but this rhetoric to the public is also a way of protecting themselves, because how can you root for a guy who can't even believe in himself?
nico saying "but it's reassuring, you can still achieve great success even without believing in yourself if you are damn committed." goes to show he DID that have dog in him. he Was that damn committed, he clawed his way to victory. he's the "do it, even if it's scary. do it scared."

do u know anything about nico's schooling history aside from what is on wikipedia
he got accepted in imperial college in london for aeronautical engineering, which he had to turn down for racing. imperial is ranked like world #6, so it's like an Ivy League/oxbridge equivalent
he also finished school early at 16, and this article goes into nico The Boy you might enjoy

men will leave f1 “to spend time with their family” then get a chance to win again and they’ll never satisfy the monster inside and say later losers (their wife and children) daddy’s gonna go back to stunting on these hoes
luckily there's still Some good men out there who know their roles in society is to retire at 30 to be barefoot and pregnant at home 🙄🫃
