Skystar is the first leader to die and Riverstar is the last, but have you decided the order the other leaders die? (and who their successors are if you've changed them)
Quick list so far, of order and of successor!
Skystar -> Sparrowstar THOUGH I also wouldn't mind her getting snubbed. For a long while, I had an inkling of an idea that Sparrow Heart betrays her brother, Pebble Heart/Owl Eyes and her living mother, Bumble, joins Clear Sky and fights by his side for her whole life, and then... dies or is replaced before becoming leader. Causing her to SEETHE in StarClan, furious that she's a minor patron of loyalty, and become desperate to finally take what she feels was denied. Would be a BANGER thing to do for an arc of BB that has something to do with the "vacant position" left by Skystar's heavenly double-death in Ashfur's jaws.
Thunderstar -> Owlstar If he dies so early, it's because he was engaged in so many fights with Skystar. Anyway, not many changes here, besides the fact that Owl Eyes was the first official Honor Title and his birth name was Pebble Heart. Bumble also survives to see her son become leader of ThunderClan, and she's very proud of him. Thunderstar dies around the same time as Windstar, I think, either a little before or after.
Windstar -> Gorsestar or one of her kids I kinda just don't want Gorselike Fur to ever become leader, or if he does, he rules for a really short amount of time. More like a Queen Reagent than an actual ruler, you get me? Just running WindCo until their chosen heir is ready to take over. He's calm and laidback, but also too naiive and relaxed to be a good leader. He'd want to hang up the star as soon as possible-- so he wouldn't take the lives in the first place. She might get followed by Morning Whisker instead, and to avoid conflict with Morningstar of ThunderClan I make the name into "Risingstar" or something. Windstar herself died of some kind of chronic illness. It took several of her lives, shortening her rule, in addition to fighting off SkyClan's raids once Moth Flight had 4 oracle children and every Clan desired a Cleric. Her grandson, OR great-grandson depending on how the timeline shakes out, is Duststar. Duststar is going to be leader of WindClan when Commandment 4, the Law of Loyalty, is passed. The one which Cloudberry and Ryewhisker are going to leave StarClan in protest of. I'm feeling that Duststar was named for his uncle/granduncle, Dustiest Muzzle.
Shadowstar -> Possibly still Ravenstar, not committed to a successor yet. She significantly outlives the other three. She was a long-lived leader, it's just that Riverstar outdoes her! In fact I'm probably going to have Quick Water end up being one of the oldest Dark Forest demons, having made a coup attempt on her for some sort of reason. Maybe she was deputy for a while. Unsure. So, I'm not too plussed about choosing a successor for her. She might have gone through a few deputies. Whoever the successor is, they're a bit of a bastard who aggravates the River Kingdom's succession crisis.

I’ve been looking into the family trees of warrior cats to understand how I’d want to interpret characters, and I decided to look into the very beginning with the founders.
I’ve used two speculative ideas in my study that the founders firstly established the rule of hereditary leadership, which means that the kin of that founder is only fit for leadership of their clan. This rule was changed with the code of deputies replacing leaders in Code of The Clan’s chapter, “Follow the Leader” with Robinwing and Maplestar.
My second idea is that the order of rules in the warrior code is chronological, the rule of deputies replacing leaders is the eighth one listed. That means leaders mentioned in previous chapters of Code of the Clans are possible descendants of the founders!
Again, this is all speculative, up to my own thinking and nothing is confirmed as cannon. With this though, I’ve found interesting things. They’re listed under the cut!
Applying the old rule that kin of the original leaders must lead the clans after they pass, Thunderstar’s (Thunder) adoptive brother, Owl Eyes became leader after him. This was apparently acceptable, and I don’t doubt there was other exceptions afterwards. Owlstar the second and Whitestar may be related to Owl Eyes and his parents. Thunderstar may not have had kits with his mate, Violet Dawn. This is familial connection that gives them power over ThunderClan that isn’t in blood, but adoptive, which is still valid.
Out of all the clans, WindClan has the most modern day members to be confirmed to be related to the founders, Windstar (Wind Runner) and Gorsestar (Gorse Fur). This could be because the couple had many kits, and this for me redefines WindClan’s sense of a large close family.
In WindClan, it’s uncertain if Duststar is the descendant of Mothflight and Micah of their kits Bluewhisker, Dust Muzzle, or Morning Whisker. I think that it’s likely Bluewhisker, since she had three unnamed kits, but who knows. Again, there’s a lot of members that branch out throughout WindClan that are related to Windstar and Gorsestar.
The first chapter in Code of the Clans depicts the relationship of RiverClan cat Cloudberry and WindClan cat Ryewhisker. Cloudberry is the daughter of the RiverClan leader of the time, Emberstar which could mean they’re descendants of Riverstar (River Ripple). After Ryewhisker’s death, Cloudberry has his kits.
The events of the first chapter could be linked to of that in chapter three, featuring RiverClan cat Splashheart. Splashheart is visited by a StarClan cat named Aspentail, who tells him, “I am kin of your elders and of your elders' elders.”. I suspect that these two descended form Cloudberry and Ryewhisker’s kits, Aspentail possibly being Splashheart’s grandparent or aunt (I wonder how many great-’s). It is said that Splashheart grows to be a great leader, which could prove this with the hereditary leadership!
The history of ShadowClan’s familial leaders is tricky. Shadowstar (Tall Shadow) was not shown to have a mate or offspring, but her brother Moon Shadow did. Perhaps the leaders Hollystar and their child Brindlestar are descendants of Shadowstar, or she’s their (greats-) aunt. Sun Shadow was the only kit of Moon Shadow to survive, so there’s a slim chance that the linage had continued through Shadowstar’s brother.
Skystar (Clear Sky) has two surviving daughters with Star Flower, Dew Petal and Flower Foot. Either of them could have descants to continue the leadership line. Beechstar’s son, Mothpelt was suppose to become leader, but due to his foolishness the clan appointed Maplestar, ending the hierarchy practice in SkyClan where the rest of the clans soon follow to honor the code.
Also fun fact: Shadowstar and Skystar are both leaders who came from the tribe, possibly their parents and ancestors are from same tribe. I think this contributes to their clans being skillful and cunning with their hunting and fighting, as the Tribe of Rushing Water is known for their clever tactics.

The stars
Thunderstar: A large, thick furred ginger tom with white on his chest, front paws, and tail tip. Amber eyes that are white rimmed and very large paws. Wears acorns in his fur when he grew up. He always smelled like a storm and acorns. The founder of thunderclan. Biological parents are Storm and Skystar (Clear Sky). His siblings who died were named Crackle and Smoke. When Storm died from the house collapsing. Thunder was taken in by Gray Wing and Slate. Who he considers his mama and papa. Wasn’t nursed by Hawkswoop in this au. Siblings both adopted and biological: Owl Eyes (Adopted), Sparrow Fur (Adopted), Pebble Heart (Adopted), Tiny Branch (half), Flower Foot (half), Dew Petal (half), Crackle, Smoke, Nettle Cloud (half), and Eagle Sky (half). Led by Storm, Thunder started Thunderclan and became the leader. He was watched and guided by his dead siblings and mothers and extra father. Considered the star of leadership and bravery in Thunderclan. His mates were Violet Dawn and Lightening Tail. His kits are Lightening Stripe, Sleek Fur, Shell Claw, Feather Ear, and Blue Whisker. Lightening Tail: Mate is Thunderstar and Violet Dawn. Kits are Lightening Stripe, Sleek Fur, Shell Claw, Feather Ear, and Blue Whisker. A lean black cat with green eyes and a semi mohawk. His tail was also very long and streaked in white. Mother is Hawk Swoop and Father is Jackdaw’s Cry. Sister is Acorn Fur. Was a loyal follower of Thunderstar as well as his mate. He was also the first deputy. He was always very chipper, frequently balancing out his mate’s own more serious personalities. He died defending Thunderstar from dogs. Thunderstar and Violet Dawn were devastated. He is considered the star of loyalty to Thunderclan. Owl Eyes/Owlstar: A gray tom with large brown eyes and flopped ears. Brothers are Thunderstar (adopted), Pebble Heart, White Tail, and Black Ear. Sisters are Sparrow Fur and Silver Stripe. Mother is Turtle Tail and Father is tom biologically. But was Adopted by Gray Wing and Slate. Considered the star of comfort to Thunderclan.
Storm: Second mate to Clear Sky. A gray and ginger tortie with amber eyes. She left to join Clear Sky’s group but was disgusted by his cruelty and left. She had her children in a two-leg place but died when it fell with her two kits Crackle and Smoke. Only her son Thunder survived. She followed his journey and helped him step up as a kind leader. Considered the star of kindness. And is especially loved in Thunderclan. Became mates with Bright Stream in Starclan/Tribe of Endless Hunting.
Skystar/Clear Sky: A controversial star. Some Skyclan cats think its only fair to honor him for founding Skyclan. Some think otherwise for his violent behavior. In general know as a star of founding but also of change. Mother was Quiet Rain. Father was Empty Snow. Brothers were Gray Wing and Jagged Peak. Sister was Fluttering Bird. Children where Crackle, Smoke, Nettle Cloud, and Eagle Sky, Thunderstar, Flower Foot, Dew Petal, and Tiny Branch. His first mate was Bright Stream, then Storm, then Star Flower. Skystar’s cruel and unruly leadership left him divided within the stars. Eventually he ventured off completely, and no one has seen him sense.
Gray Wing: The star of fatherly devoted and love. Loved by Thunderclan, Skyclan, and Windclan. A gray tom with golden eyes and dark black on his back like wings. Former mate was Turtle Tail, then Slate. Children are Thunderstar, Owl Eyes, Sparrow Fur, Pebble Heart, Silver Stripe, Black Ear, and White Tail. Despite only the last of those being his biological kits, he never minded it. Gray Wing has always been sweet and caring. He refuses to allow anyone to be hurt or bullied by his brother. Slate: A large gray molly with yellow eyes and shredded ears. Mate to Gray Wing. Adopted Thunder as her own and raised him with Silver Stripes, Black Ear, White Tail, and the adopted three Owl Eyes, Sparrow Fur, and Pebble Heart. She’s fierce and protective. Refusing to let anyone hurt her kits. Brother is Cricket. Sister is Snow, and Mother is Gravel. Father was a cat named Yarrow who died early on. But he and Gravel weren’t close. She’s heavily scarred. Considered the star of parental love, especially in Windclan.
Violet Dawn: a black and gray spotted molly with amber eyes. After loosing her first mate Rain, and the abuse she faced in Slash’s group she is somewhat skittish when cats try to get close to her. Mate is Thunderstar and Lightening Tail and their kits are Lightening Stripe, Sleek Fur, Shell Claw, and Feather Ear. She also adopted Blue Whisker. She is considered the star of the hurt. And her star is said to come down to protect those being hurt for their body or mind.
Quiet Rain: A dark gray molly with yellow eyes. Mother to Clear Sky (Skystar), Gray Wing, Fluttering Bird, and Jagged Peak. For her devote she is considered the star of longing, truth, and dedication to Thunderclan, Skyclan, and The Tribe of Rushing Water. Mate was named Empty Snow.
