The thing that's stuck with me most about my job training is when in one of the boot camps we were tasked with several questions, the most difficult of which was What kind of oncologist do you want to be? The point of the question is that the work we do is in its own way life-or-death, and the work requires a sense of immediacy and urgency. It's only partially a metaphor, as the population in question have wildly increased health risks which certainly do include cancer. I'm an administrative assistant, though. What the fuck kind of oncologist is that?
