In its essence, white gold is a mixture of pure gold and other metals, such as nickel, palladium, and silver. Depending on the type, there can be more or less pure gold in the alloy, which always looks slightly yellow. . Most jewelers coat their white gold jewelry with Rhodium to enhance its scratch-resistance, durability, and shine, and there comes the perfect white color. . With time and wear the Rhodium coating can slowly regress, exposing the original white gold yellowish color. This is why jewelers recommend having your white gold jewelry recoated from time to time. Yellow and rose gold jewelry is not coated and therefore, does not need the same treatment. .
