A Complete Guide To CNC Grinding Machines
A CNC grinder machine is a machine tool that employs a spinning grinding wheel to remove material off of a metallic workpiece. Grinding machines are generally used for hard-fine workpiece machining (parts). Because of the excellent surface quality that may be attained, CNC tool grinding is usually used as a finishing procedure in modern industry.
Furthermore, due to improved tool performance, grinding machines may now be employed to produce high material removal rates (Q'w [mm3/(mm*s)] during production grinding. Since grinding began, solutions for carrying out this machining operation in progressively shorter time frames while maintaining a suitable quality have been sought.
CNC grinding machines are the most advanced form of grinding equipment available today. Part machining may now be done entirely autonomously. Even with the most complicated part geometries, such as crankshafts, camshafts, valves, ball bearings, or transmission shafts, CNC machines can accomplish reliable, rapid, and automated machining.
However, there are various distinct types of CNC tool grinding machines, each of which operates differently.
Bench Grinding Machine
Bench grinding machines are distinguished by their bench-like design. They typically have two distinct grinding wheels: one for material removal and another for finishing activities. As a consequence, bench grinding machines are simple and comfortable to operate for production personnel.
Belt Grinding Machine
The use of a belt sander distinguishes belt grinding machines. Like other grinding machines, they are meant to remove material from work-pieces, resulting in smaller work-pieces with a smoother and more desired surface. Belt grinding is most typically used on metal work-pieces, although it may also be used on work-pieces made of other materials.
Surface Grinding Machine
Surface grinding machines are distinct in that they have an adjustable head. A surface grinding machine's head may be lowered to the workpiece. When the head is lowered, it may spin back and forth under the machine's grinding wheel.
Gear Grinding Machine
Gear grinding machines are mainly intended for removing material off shafts. They can grind the centre of a shaft with high accuracy using grinding wheels.
Die Grinding Machine
Die grinding machines, unlike the other devices described here, are portable. They are linked to an air compressor, which powers the machine's grinding wheel. If an air compressor is not employed, an electric motor will most likely be used to power the die grinding equipment.
Some of the benefits and drawbacks of CNC technology for grinding include:
Advantages:
Precision
Repeatability
Quality
A high level of security
Pre-machine part surface regions
Can manage large manufacturing batches
Disadvantages:
Limited component dimensions and size
Weight-restricted components
Machinery and tool costs
CNC grinding machines are high-tech machine tools with a wide range of capabilities. Unfortunately, CNC grinding machines commonly operate outside their optimal operational scope, using excessive energy or coolant lubricant, resulting in extreme cycle times or uneven grinding burn on the ground item.
Most difficulties may be rectified with easy steps, resulting in a considerable boost in CNC grinding machine efficiency. Moreover, manufacturers of CNC grinder machined parts are also available in India for custom requirements.

STATE-OF-THE-ART COFFEE GRINDER FIXES THE SINGLE BIGGEST FLAW WITH THE ITALIAN BURR GRINDERS ON THE MARKET
Tumblr media
What if you looked at a car and said “Hey, we should try removing the wheels…” It sounds like an odd thing to do to a car, right? But you take the wheels off and you turn the car into an eVTOL and you don’t need wheels anymore because your car can fly. As odd as that little story may sound, it’s similar to what industrial designer Ahmet Ergün and architect Yavuz Bozkurt did to the coffee grinder. They took out (the axle) what seemed like one of the most integral parts of its design. And somehow, that made the coffee grinder even better. The Knob Coffee Grinder both simplifies and improves on the coffee grinder. Traditional grinders come with an outer chamber that holds the beans, and an inner grinding stone that rotates on an axle (which you manually crank). However, this ever-important axle can sometimes wobble or shake while it’s trying to crush the beans, causing them to grind into uneven pieces, resulting in inconsistencies that cause your coffee to taste bad. The most obvious solution up until now has been to just make the axle stronger and less prone to wobbling, although it’s had mixed results. Ahmet Ergün and Yavuz Bozkurt decided to ditch this axle completely, designing a completely new grinding mechanism in the process. The Knob Coffee Grinder doesn’t use an axle, but rather, lets you directly rotate the burrs instead. Just chuck roasted beans in, set how coarse or fine you want your grind, and begin rotating. The robust mechanism creates an incredibly consistent grind every time, and with a few simple hand-cranks, you’re ready to brew the best cup of coffee you could probably produce at home! The axle-less design of the Knob Coffee Grinder has a few other notable advantages too. The removal of the axle allowed the designers to also build in a step-less adjustment mechanism into the grinder, letting you be very flexible with how fine or coarse you want your grind. To adjust your grind size, all you do is loosen the main knob and freely rotate the adjustment dial to choose exactly how coarse or smooth you want your grind. Unlike other grinders that require you to choose a fixed coarseness value, the Knob lets you even pick a spot right in between two values, giving you infinite control over the grind. Once you’ve made your choice, tighten the knob again to ‘confirm’ your coarseness value. Aside from this infinite customizability. The lack of an axle actually makes the Knob more portable. Without an axle and a crankshaft attached to it, the Knob features a detachable handle that pops off and docks vertically into the side of the coffee grinder, making it easy to pack and carry with you. When you’re ready to grind, just pop the handle off and fix it into the top and you can begin rotating it to grind your beans. The overall design of the Knob is limited to just a handful of parts that are easy to disassemble and reassemble (making it easy to clean/maintain). The body’s made of just two parts – an outer vessel, and the fixed burr setup. The Knob even comes with a cap that acts as a measuring scoop while feeding the beans into the coffee grinder, and a pop-out catcher base collects the final grounds all in one place. The coffee grinder comes with an all-metal design, featuring a slick-looking aluminum outer body that feels great to the touch. The cylinder-shaped grinder measures just 58mm wide and 150mm tall (that’s smaller than a soft drink can) and weighs a mere 600 grams (1.32lbs), making it perfect for using at home or even carrying with you on outdoor trips. The Knob can churn out 20 grams of fine espresso-grade coffee powder in under a minute, with a consistency that other regular burr grinders will struggle to match. Designed to be simple, reliable, portable, and long-lasting, the Knob costs $189 on Kickstarter, and comes in three color variants – Aircraft Silver, Moon Grey, and Batman Black. I bet Batman’s a regular coffee drinker too. Although I hear he likes his coffee dark! Read the full article

The Right Equipment and Premises to Start an Auto Repair Workshop
Ready to open an auto repair shop? If you are a highly skilled and versatile mechanic, you may find it to be very restricting working for someone else when you could be running your own business and making real money at the same time.
Ready to open an auto repair shop?
Tumblr media
Starting your own automotive repair shop or automotive workshop is the dream of good mechanics everywhere. I have lived that dream.
If you are a highly skilled and versatile mechanic, you may find it to be very restricting working for someone else when you could be running your own business and making real money at the same time.
The right equipment is essential to opening an auto shop. It takes a good knowledge of workshop equipment to make all the right decisions and you also need to learn using and to maintain different equipment correctly.
A good automotive shop equipment company will ensure you have all owners and parts manuals as well as service directives for all the heavy equipment you purchase or lease.
The company should also be capable of providing any training necessary to operate each machine safely. Most will do so for free and on-site.
People skills are paramount in this business and a caring helpful personality as well as a love for your job are prerequisites when starting an auto repair shop the right way.
If you care about your work, customers will care about using your workshop to do all their mechanical repairs and servicing, so you need the right tools and equipment to do a broad range of work.
If you love what you do and want to do it for yourself, I say go for it!
You will need some cash for setting up the building lease, and painting your floor, signwriting, etc and buying or leasing equipment, ( In western countries between $20,00 and $100,00 is the usual cost range for setting up a small shop to a larger operation with 4 lifts.
You will already have heaps of enthusiasm talent and skills to do the work and have the patience to learn about setting up with the right premises machinery and equipment.
Having said that, I started my first workshop out of a leaning ricketty old shed at home that would hardly hold one car. I know of others that have done the same. Like most things, it depends on how badly you want it!
The more markets you can cover the better, so having a wide range of profit centers provides better turnover and more profit safety providing you do not spend more on machinery than you should for your market size.
Frankly, I always go after providing a wide range of services and free advice to keep them in my shop rather than having to send them elsewhere to have their air-conditioning recharged, their discs skimmed, or their wheels aligned, etc.
Taking alignment work and then outsourcing it is time-consuming, provides only small profit and takes time to deliver and pick up your customer’s car from the alignment center.
You can now do alignments without a 4 post hoist using up a lot of space. The best of this equipment is expensive, so I suggest leasing your equipment if you have a good credit history.
WORKSHOP PREMISES.
The building needs to have the following features.
Wide access.
Customer’s cars need room to drive in straight then go out straight to get on and off hoists unless the building is very deep, there will be no room to align the vehicle with the hoist if access is too narrow.
If space is very limited, you can use rolling jacks that sit under the tire to maneuver the vehicle by hand. These are quick and easy to use. If your floor is in good condition the vehicle will roll sideways, back or forward with just a gentle push.
A high roof and solid 6″ floor.
to accommodate the latest clear floor hoists you need close to 15′ from floor to ceiling...
A 6″ concrete steel reinforced floor is required to solidly mount the hoists too.
Enough space and facilities.
The workshop floor area needs to accommodate at least 2 hoists ( if specializing)
You may consider 4-6 hoist businesses are the sweet spot for general mechanical repairs and servicing when you have become comfortable with finding quality mechanics to work for you.
Remember to ensure the building is deep enough so you can back each car off the hoist INSIDE the building.
Reception, office, toilets and lunch room need not be big but should be neat and comfortable for workers and customers. A water fountain is a good idea in both reception and lunchroom.
Natural light.
A good natural light source is a huge advantage to your mechanics, especially for examining stains on cylinder blocks left from fluid leaks and other hard to see indicators of underlying faults.
A tiny split or damage to a hose could, if left unnoticed result in engine or gearbox damage. Engineered components like wheel bearings, crankshafts, etc. where the metal surface condition is the first indicator of part failure. All these important visual signs require good natural light.
Good lighting is still one of the major factors missed in auto repair shops. I have insisted on good natural light in all my workshop buildings. The better informed and more experienced mechanics will insist on natural light. Take my word for it and thank me later, as far as I am concerned this is essential to good engineering, and I want the best for my customer!
All walls bright white and at least two coats. I prefer high-quality gloss myself as it is brighter than other surfaces and easier to keep clean.
PERMITS, OIL AND FLUID SYSTEMS, DRAINS ETC.
In most countries, states and territories there are regulations and zones where you can put a workshop.
Make sure of the zoning first on any property you consider leasing or buying.
Ensure you have correct drainage installed in case of large oil spills.
Ensure that you can store volatile chemicals associated with your trade.
Ensure you are able to operate all your machinery legally.
The electricity supply for much workshop equipment is 400 volt 3 phase, ensure it is connected and working properly. Often you will find 3 phase wiring with the polarity changed from plug to plug. This is a darn nuisance and confuses a lot of workshop equipment!
Install air hoses overhead. You don’t want air hoses running across the floor, in the old days' grease was run this way too. If you are working on older cars with grease points install grease overhead too.
Run an overhead waterline as well if you feel you need it for some special jobs you may do. Power points should be well above bench level so they do not get knocked, and you need plenty of them even for a basic workshop.
Buy and maintain an emergency spill kit.
Fit fire extinguishers to a well-constructed plan, ensuring locations will be quick and easy to reach.
Painting the floor.
The workshop floor is very very important. More so than in most businesses as it must withstand stains from dirty thin and hot oil. It happens that spills do occur when doing oil changes, but more about how to stop that happening later.
STANDARD EQUIPMENT.
HOISTS.
NEVER EVEN CONSIDER BUYING A CHEAP HOIST!
I spent two years rebuilding, installing and servicing hoists. The average life of a cheap hoist is around two years before downtime and major repairs. Despite what your equipment supplier says, cheap hoists are dangerous, and when they need rebuilding parts are often not available.
The type of hoists you choose is most important, as it depends on what work you will be doing most, but at least one hoist should be a clear span or clear floor design.
A clear span or clear floor hoist as it is also known, means simply that there is nothing on the floor connecting the two sides of the hoist together.
BENCHES.
I try to use as much wall space as I can for benches, but it does depend on where you decide to get your profit from, which I will discuss later in this hub.
BASIC MECHANIC’S TOOLS.
Hand tools, such as circlip pliers, bearing pullers, ring, and open-end spanners, depending on what you work on this will vary, but need to be incomplete sets. A full range of inside and outside circlip pliers is essential.
Handheld mechanics lamps, air guns, and lines, rolling oil pans, Cooling fluid pans, etc. One set for each hoist.
Other special tools for different makes and models where required, a minimum of two good quality vices. There are many more items, so I will provide a list.

OTHER EQUIPMENT.
To work on modern cars, you need a good scanner and a 5 gas analyzer, along with many wiring harnesses interface cables for the different makes and models connections to the scanner.
None of this equipment is cheap, because the quality is paramount. I have sold, repaired and serviced both cheap and well designed and built ones. The cheapies will save you a grand or so, but you will regret buying either a scanner or 5 gas analyzer cheap!
There is an equipment list added to this if you are doing petroleum/gas conversions, but it is not usually extensive or expensive.
MORE EQUIPMENT.
If you intend to get a license to test cars for road-worthiness. (This license has different names in some countries) You will also need quite a bit more equipment.
Headlight aimer.
Large vernier calipers.
Compression tester.
Gas analyzer.
The list varies from state to state. country to country.
PROFIT CENTRES.
A workshop that can do everything in-house will attract more customers, and if you cannot do a job because you do not have the necessary equipment or machinery, you need to outsource it.
Never send your customer away, ALWAYS have a solution by using other specialists to do the work for you, then check it thoroughly when it is finished and then add value.
Here are some ways to make your workshop more profitable.
Good disc machining is a matter of tooling up carefully and finishing the surfacing with a fine skim after the cut if needed.
Buy a multi-unit that does the whole job.
Combine with tire sales, or outsource tires. Buy a machine that will do new cars with large wheels.
Equipment is expensive to buy, you need an alignment machine and an alignment hoist like the 4 posts listed above. The profit on wheel alignment is not great generally, but it does attract other sales very well.
If you have all the equipment needed such as a 5 gas analyzer and a gas fitters license there is good money in conversions. Take your time with the re-tuning and calibration.
BEFORE you move your hoists in, you need to know that the floor is level, thick and strong and most important, treated or painted so that the oil does not soak into the concrete and weaken it, especially around the hoist uprights.
Ensure the painted floor surface is skid-proof and smooth to roll equipment on.
Use non-skid paint. You can get one that can be rolled on or sprayed.
If you are removing and replacing components or even doing oil changes, having a clear floor to wheel your equipment around on is safer by a mile, and a lot easier to avoid spills or gearboxes falling of the gearbox hoist because it fell over when it hit the obstruction which is on all other types of hoist.
If you are doing suspension replacements and repairs, you will need a four-post hoist with inbuilt hydraulic ram for lifting the wheels off the hoist.
The same hoist should be ordered with rotating wheel alignment plates built-in if doing wheel alignments as well.
Buy a high-quality brake lathe and learn how to use it. Your equipment supplier should be able to train you or your mechanic in using the equipment they sell.
AIR-CONDITIONING REPAIRS.
TIRE CHANGING, WHEEL BALANCING.
WHEEL ALIGNMENT.
LPG CONVERSIONS.

Work Smarter by Choosing the Right Air Tools
Have you ever had a moment when you were burning the midnight oil and working a ratchet to bust a bolt loose wondering why you’re still without air tools? It is one of those things you keep on the Christmas list in your mind yet never make the investment in your time, which by the way you can never get back.
Invest in air tools and get precious lost time back. Air tools make your life as a hot rodder easier because they cut labor time significantly. Imagine being able to rattle a car apart quickly with the spin cycle madness of an impact in hours versus a ratchet with the sluggishness of human power.
Save time. Get back on the road quickly.
Let’s look at the basic types of air tools needed to get you started.
1/2-inch Drive Air Impact Wrench
3/8-inch Drive Air Impact Wrench
3/8- and 1/2-inch Impact Sockets
Extensions
Universals
1/2-inch Air Ratchet
3/8-inch Air Ratchet
Air Drill (3/8- and 1/2-inch, variable speed)
Titanium Drill Bits
Air Chisel Kit
Air Grinder
Die Grinder
Grinding Discs for both grinders
Heavy-Duty Air Hose (at least 30 feet)
Enough Quick-Disconnect Couplings for all air tools
Air Tool Oil
Ear Protection
Eye Protection
Face Shield
Gloves
Air tools have become more affordable because they’re being purchased in greater numbers by automotive enthusiasts and professionals alike. This means you get the volume discount and can have all of the same air tools professional automotive repair shops have. You can purchase an air compressor for under $500 to get you started. If you need volume for painting or media blasting you’re going to have to spend more money on a larger-capacity compressor. You want an air compressor that kicks on at 130 psi and shuts off around 150 psi because you need steady volume and a compressor that can keep up. Minimum pressure required for media blasting is no less than 90-100 psi, and that’s in just pressure alone.
You’re going to need a two-stage 5hp compressor with a 60-gallon tank to keep up with the heavy demand of extensive media blasting. One alternative would be a 2-horse 29-gallon unit, which will keep up with light-duty media blasting. Most air tools won’t require any more than a 30-gallon tank and a 2hp compressor.
There are three basic types of compressors you may encounter: reciprocating (piston), rotary screw (positive displacement), or centrifugal. Most common for home use is the piston type. You will find either direct-drive or belt-drive. Direct-drive (oiless) compressors are quite noisy. Belt-drive (cast iron or aluminum case, oil-filled) are more expensive yet offer quieter operation and brute ruggedness.
While you’re getting your compressor set up, invest in a water separator and pressure regulator. And remember, whenever you’re finished using your air compressor, switch the unit off and open the petcock underneath, allowing moisture to drain out with the air. This prevents tank rust from moisture accumulation inside. Never leave a compressor pressurized in an enclosed garage in the interest of safety. Compressed air is dangerous and potentially destructive if left unattended.
Air impact wrenches in 3/8- and 1/2-inch drive can be had for $100 each. Assorted air ratchets, die grinders, air chisels, and the like are also available at prices nearly anyone can afford from Harbor Freight and Summit Racing Equipment.
Although you do have a choice of air or portable electric power tools, with each having its advantages, air has the extra added bonus of available air volume when a battery has given up the ghost and has to be recharged. Air compressors can be household current or gasoline powered. Air tools as a rule are more durable than electric depending upon the brand and type. Air tools can take a beating for years and keep coming back for more.
There are five basic types of air motors used in air tools:
Rotary Vane
Axle Piston
Radial Piston
Turbine
Percussion
Rotary Vane air motors are the most common type of air tool motor. They make that whizzing sound you hear so often. There is a rotor with vanes that ride the inside of the outer wall of the motor housing. Compressed air pushes the vanes and rotor round-and- round. The rotor shaft turns an output shaft or a gearbox that transmits rotary motion through gears to an output shaft to multiply torque. The gears multiply torque.
Axle Piston air motors have pistons that run parallel to the rotor. They are a wobble plate design like you see in rotary air conditioning compressors.
Radial piston air motors look something like an old-time radial piston aircraft engine where pistons and cylinders are positioned around a central crankshaft. They develop a lot of torque and turn slowly.
Air turbine motors tend to be the highest winding air motors around, spinning upwards of 300,000 rpm. They don’t make a lot of torque, however, they’re high revving in tools like die grinders and drills. Die grinders are terrific for finite work where close attention to detail is required. You can mount cutting and grinding discs on them as well as wire wheels. They typically have a palm-triggered valve.
Percussion air motors are common to air chisels and hammers where rapid-fire reciprocation is needed.
The applications for air tools are limitless because air power (pneumatic) is used to do our work in so many ways. Garage air tools are but a tiny part of how air is used to do our work. There are literally thousands of applications out there for industrial use, some of which can be applied to your home shop.
Compressed Air and Your Safety We cannot stress enough the importance of safety during air tool use. Compressed air all by itself is dangerous. It can maim and kill. Never use compressed air to blow dust out of your clothes and hair. Debris can fly into your eyes, up your nose, or in your mouth. Air under pressure into the skin can penetrate your vascular system causing an air bubble in a vain or artery, which can be deadly in a matter of minutes when that air buddle reaches your heart. Horseplay with compressed air is also very dangerous. Did you know it takes just 4 psi to burst the lungs, stomach, or intestines? Treat compressed air with the same kind of respect you would show electricity.
Protect your face, eyes, and ears when you’re using air tools. The noise made by air tools is significant enough to cause serious hearing loss over the course of a lifetime. Wear gloves when you’re working with air tools to protect your hands.
We observe air tool use all the time at STREET RODDER and we find it remarkable the extent of air tool neglect and abuse all around the industry. Air tools, like any other tool in your arsenal, call for periodic maintenance if they are expected to survive and be safe. Invest in air tool oil and keep tools properly serviced. Gear cases and air motors require fresh lubrication from time-to-time, especially if you use your air tools aggressively.
Items like drill bits, chisels, grinding discs, and the like require regular preventative maintenance. Sharpen your drill bits and chisel tips periodically so they are ready for your use when the time comes. And when tools become worn out and unsafe discard them or have them serviced. Take care of your air tools and they will take care of you. SRM
Air tools make light work of nearly any task because they work faster than human hands. They’re also very efficient because they put compressed air to work for you with minimal electricity use and less weight. You’re going to want both a 3/8- and 1/2-inch drive air ratchets, which buzz fasteners in and out quickly and with less exhaustion for you.
We like these compact high-rpm disc sanders, which can be operated for hours without the heat and consumption of an electric motor. Air turbine sanders are more compact and lighter weight than electric. Screw-on or stick-on discs are easily replaced, enabling you to get right back to work.
Air impact wrenches in 3/8 and 1/2 inch get the heavy-duty work done. Spend the money and get high-quality air impact wrenches that will serve you well for years to come if you take good care of them along the way.
Most of you will need a 20-30-gallon compressor like this guy; the portable 2-horse Emax EMX-HP02P020SS air compressor from Summit Racing Equipment offers quiet operation and a maximum operating pressure of 125 psi. It operates on normal 110/115V household current. If you need the volume necessary to run a media blaster, a 5-horse, 60-gallon compressor is required and runs on 220/240 V of AC current.
There’s little reason to have 30 feet of air hose rolled up on the floor when you can store it in a manual or recoil hose reel. Craftsman retractable hose reels from Summit Racing Equipment are constructed from high-impact polypropylene. The 30-foot air hose winds up compactly inside the reel. This guy mounts on your garage wall well out of the way.
There are basically two or three different quick-disconnect air chuck types out there with different penetration depths. You will want a universal coupler on the air hose designed to work with most of them with the MIL-C-4109 spec. These are the smooth barrel “Tru-Flate” Automotive Interchange couplings.
This is the Industrial Interchange MIL-C-4109 quick disconnect, which seems to be more widely available in the marketplace. The Industrial Interchange connector has this angular lip, which provides a solid quick connection. There’s also the ARO Interchange (not pictured) connector, which is similar to this one. You want a receiver connector that will comply with all MIL-C-4109-spec connectors.
Merlin air tool couplers from Harbor Freight offer the enthusiast terrific performance because they connect and disconnect so easily. This I/M Series Male/Female Coupler Kit is constructed of high-strength steel and the quick disconnect is rated for 300 psi.
Every pneumatic system should have the ability to adjust air pressure and get both moisture and debris out of the system. Moisture can ruin a paintjob and damage air tools. You can extend the life of your air tools with this dual-purpose air filter and regulator. What’s more you get a push-button drain for easy, on-the-fly maintenance.
It’s a good practice to protect your eyes any time you’re working in the garage—be it working with simple hand tools or air tools because there are no second chances with an eye injury. Keep a couple pair of these impact-resistant safety glasses from Harbor Freight around the shop for easy access. You can never have too many, especially with a buddy helping out.
If you’re doing a lot of grinding and sanding, it is best to protect your face with this full-face shield from Harbor Freight, featuring a unique curved design that protects a larger area of your face without struggling with distortion. We like that you can use a respirator underneath for added lung protection. Never grind or sand without lung protection.
We see this all the time in shops and racetracks across the country where hearing protection isn’t taken seriously. From the time you are very young you must protect your hearing with industrial caliber ear muffs from Harbor Freight. These ear muffs will fit nearly anyone comfortably and you get to keep your hearing.
The time-proven Craftsman name is now available from Summit Racing Equipment. These 1/2-inch drive composite impacts are the optimum addition to your rollaway and they make light work of any job you have going.
You’re only kidding yourself to think you can use conventional sockets with an air impact wrench. They will break. These deep, 1/2-inch drive impact sockets reach the toughest fasteners with ease. The chrome molybdenum construction and black phosphate coating make these Pittsburgh sockets from Harbor Freight durable and rust-resistant.
We like these affordable extensions from Harbor Freight. This four-piece extension set extends your reach for easier access in tight spots. These extensions are constructed of rugged chrome vanadium steel and coated with black phosphate for corrosion resistance. They’re virtually impossible to break.
Once you have most of your air impact arsenal put together, finalize the plan with these rugged Pittsburgh universals from Harbor Freight. Every conceivable size is shown here in 1/4-, 3/8-, and 1/2-inch drive. And no matter what you may think, you’re going to need these for tight angles.
Needing your space? Check this out. This ultra-compact stubby air impact wrench from Harbor Freight packs a whopping 700 lb-ft of breakaway torque. The Earthquake XT makes it easier to reach challenging fasteners with a lot of power.
The AIRCAT composite short barrel air hammer with five-piece chisel set from Summit Racing Equipment has everything you need in one convenient kit. These high-performance air hammers are lightweight and ergonomically designed for comfort while tackling the toughest of jobs. You won’t have to look all over the garage for chisel attachments because it’s all right here.
Although there isn’t much call for a spark plug cleaner these days, what with improved lubricants and unleaded fuel, it’s nice to have one of these around. The Sunex Tools spark plug cleaner Summit Racing Equipment features a two-way valve that allows you to choose between clean air or a blast of abrasive silica media for fast-quick cleaning.
The Earthquake air ratchet from Harbor Freight is three-times faster than your garden variety air ratchet. It features a silencing handle exhaust for quieter operation. It also offers you a reactionless mechanism that stops operation when maximum torque is reached. Did you notice this air ratchet likes to be oiled daily? So do the rest of your air tools.
AIRCAT pneumatic tools from Summit Racing Equipment prove to all of us that an air tool doesn’t have to make a bunch of noise to be effective. This AIRCAT cut-off tool makes the power and torque you need without the racket that you don’t want. This is a nice piece with a shield to protect your face and body while yielding a clean cut.
Earlier, we mentioned the use of compressed air to blow away debris. This handy telescoping blow gun from Harbor Freight is optimum for removing dirt, debris, and dust from hard-to-access areas in machinery and equipment. The telescoping nozzle extends to 20-3/8 inches long to provide precise airflow exactly where you want it. As always, we advise caution along with face and eye protection while using blow guns.

Keep a bottle of air tool oil from Harbor Freight on the shelf and remember to use it. The same can be said for cutting discs, drill bits, chisels, and grinding wheels. Keep plenty of them on hand even if you’re not sure you’re going to need them anytime soon
Resist the urge to push a grinding or cutting disc beyond its normal service life. We’ve seen these discs and wheels fly apart, causing injury only because the operator didn’t want to spend money on a new cutting disc. It makes more sense to spend the money.
Your air tool crib can include body preparation tools like orbitals sanders, buffing motors, grinders, and conventional disc sanders. Air sanders provide unending smoothness compared to their electric counterparts.
