The more I rewatch yellowjackets S1 the more I hate what season 2 did with Taissa in the adult timeline (nothing)
I finally had a queer black woman, even married to another black woman and with a kid, in a show I loved, looking like at the very least third bill of importance in the plot (Shauna then Nat then Tai and Misty last bc she was a sidekick to Nat’s angst mostly)
She starts of as the most functional one, gets the whole happy family and successful past and present, then starts re-devolving into madness, her eyes get redder every time she gets more unhinged, like Shauna she gets marriage trouble and parenting trouble, they even give her her own antagonist(s), she has plenty of long scenes chewing the dialogue and looking fine as hell, he’ll she and her family have the most horror show vibes and then final reveal!
And then in S2 adult tai is… nowhere. They are all mostly are nowhere, (I didn’t enjoy the adult portion of S2 generally either) but the adult I cared the most about was Tai. In S2 she has what? Three days worth of plot? in which she leaves her family and gets to Van, who I don’t hate and was hype to meet, but they have two conversations and end up with the group where they kiss and descend into a brief bout of madness. That’s it. For like 8 episodes?!
Like, Van enjoyers, y’all telling me that was enough for you?! Van is a non character in the adult timeline. She’s a cool house and a cool wardrobe wrapped into Lauren Ambrose. They used her to distract us of how scantly written she is!! They knew we would be blinded by Lauren!! She got two cool quips on Misty and that’s it.
Lottie enjoyers even. really what did we learn of her? She’s messed up and still has the power to drive them to hunt after 25 years of normalcy? Made no sense to me. The adult dialogue is ass.
God I’ll be pressed another year. I hope season three is more of a return to form.
