Okay okay okay so I’m thinking about the fun of Werewolf Vale and why the combo of those two words means so much to me
Vale’s existence has this central theme and need of Humanity. In the world of cyberpunk even as a genre there’s a focus on transhumanism and this corporate greed and corporate need to surpass humanity and become something more. Corporations offer autonomy to humans in the form of specific corporate sponsored enhancements. Falling into a world that has a shit ton of crime, synthetic hellish drugs, and selling your life for the chance of having one good day. In cyberpunk, it is revolutionary to be human and to stand for the notion of humanity and kindness and empathy and emotion. No matter what, the most punk thing Vale can do is care and be human.
But then we throw werewolves into the mix, even if the AU is not set in cyberpunk, you can make the argument that it has always been punk to be kind. When corporations and businesses want you to focus on individualism and selfishness and forgetting the struggles and needs of others, the most punk thing you can do is be kind and stand against that conforming nature of shittyness that’s so simple to fall into. Although werewolves are beasts, they are not tamed, they are amplifications of those traits we hide and try to conform into something acceptable by the standards of those around us that we see as “in charge”.
While Werewolf Vale is a Werewolf, there is no Wolf without Were. There is no anger, no rage, no ferocity, no feral need without the Humanity held within their core. Yes, Vale can tear you apart for putting your hands on someone they love, but you can never forget that within those shining eyes is the soul of a human hellbent on protecting Humanity and every motion of kindness in a world that wants to turn its back on its people for the chance of a few quick dollars.
