11.Ren energi for alle (mål 7)
12.Fred og rettferdighet (mål 16)
13.God helse (mål 3)
14.Utrydde sult (mål 2)
15.Liv under vann (mål 14)

LIXIL Earns Place in CDP’s Water Security A List for Second Consecutive Year
LIXIL Group Corporation (LIXIL Group; TSE code: 5938), maker of pioneering water and housing products, has been named in the CDP1 ’s prestigious Water A List for two consecutive years. Incorporating its Corporate Responsibility commitment in its products, services, and business, CDP’s recognition reflects the company’s leadership in water stewardship.
The CDP, a non-profit organization running a globally acknowledged environmental disclosure system, scores companies A to D in key environmental impact sectors, including climate, water, forests, and supply chain. To score an A, companies must demonstrate best practice in disclosing and responding to risk.
Ryo Nihei, Executive Officer and Senior Managing Director of Technology at LIXIL Group, commented: “As a manufacturer of bathroom and kitchen products, from toilets to faucets, water is at the heart of what we do. Together with our stakeholders, we have advanced not just our water-saving and wastewater management initiatives, but also the water efficiency of our products. We are proud to receive this recognition two years in a row as we strive to enhance the sustainability of both LIXIL and the environment. We will continue to advance our activities related to water, particularly by integrating and scaling up our existing advanced water filtration technology globally; to make better homes a reality for everyone, everywhere.”
LIXIL Group’s Corporate Responsibility strategy consists of three pillars, comprising Global Sanitation and Hygiene, Water Conservation and Environmental Sustainability, and Diversity and Inclusion. Relevant to the first two pillars, LIXIL was rated an A for a range of practices disclosed for FYE2019 to reduce business risks and increase business opportunities. This includes:
Assessing production facilities based on local water conditions, identifying sites with great water risks to set water conservation targets, and implementing appropriate countermeasures. These include promoting initiatives at determined sites designed to alleviate water risks, wastewater recycling or saving systems, and related activities to improve water efficiency.
Enhancing the performance of products and services, from water-saving, energy-efficient faucets and toilets to smart water-controlling systems that can detect pipe leaks and be controlled via smartphone apps, thereby contributing to environmental sustainability.
In addition to these, LIXIL Group aims to improve global sanitation and hygiene for 100 million people by 2025 by developing solutions that cater to their local requirements and preferences. Establishing local production and distribution systems for its innovative and affordable SATO products, LIXIL Group contributes to local economies by creating jobs, improving infrastructure, and promoting sanitation to tackle the impact it has on communities and the water they use.
On environmental sustainability, LIXIL Group achieved its carbon intensity target announced in FYE 2016 two years ahead of plan. The company announced its new commitment of pursuing a net-zero carbon footprint and helping the world transition to a circular economy through its products by 2050.
LIXIL Group was also rated A- for CDP Climate Change this year, which is a higher recognition than 2018. In line with its vision3 to pursue a net-zero carbon footprint in its operations, LIXIL Group joined RE1004 . Starting with the Kyoto Showroom and most recently at its Global Headquarters in Tokyo, LIXIL Group is now moving towards using 100% renewable energy in its operations. In recognition of its CR and sustainability practices, LIXIL is also listed on the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices, FTSE4Good Index Series, FTSE Blossom Japan Index, and MSCI Japan Empowering Women Index, and S&P/JPX Carbon Efficient Index.

Global Data Report Reveals a Redirection of Research Towards the UN's Shared Sustainable Development Goals
This post was originally published on this site
Web of Science data show the dominance of European research and dual focus of environment and health studies
LONDON, March 31, 2019 /PRNewswire/ — A new report released today by the Institute for Scientific Information, part of the Web of Science Group at Clarivate Analytics, reveals how global research and discovery is evolving to address poverty, reduce inequality and deal with the effects of climate change via the UN Sustainable Development Goals* (SDGs).
The report, Navigating the Structure of Research on Sustainable Development Goals provides a unique top-down view on the progress being made via global research activity that’s driving progress towards the 17 global sustainable goals adopted by its members. It combines high quality, unbiased data from within the Web of Science citation index with the skilled analysis of the Institute for Scientific Information to inform the work of policymakers, including governments, funders and NGOs.
The data show that there is a dual focus across the research landscape, with the majority of papers published in Environment, Agricultural and Sustainability Science or Health and Healthcare. Many small research areas, such as Water Supply and Sanitation, join the two large domains. These transdisciplinary topics are often of policy interest because they represent opportunities to leverage knowledge in one area that can be applied in another.
David Pendlebury, Head of Research Analysis at the Institute for Scientific Information says: “The UN Sustainable Development Goals represent some of the biggest challenges humanity faces, from ending poverty to dealing with the effects of climate change, aiming to transform the world in just fifteen years.
“We have used the data in the Web of Science to confirm that research is being redirected towards these shared goals and identified key themes in global research and discovery. Our analysis will be of interest to policymakers and funders alike in supporting evidence-based decision making.”
Professor Zulfiqar Bhutta, University of Toronto and Aga Khan University, and 2018 Highly Cited Researcher in Clinical Medicine said: “Academicians and researchers have a special role in advocating for evidence-based strategies and research to help address the aspirational, yet attainable Sustainable Development Goals. This report is an important benchmark in this process.”
The report examines how regions collaborate and provides a thematic map of SDG research. The map reveals clusters of associated research papers and the relation of these clusters to one another. The report identifies the following themes:
European nations dominate SDG research, with North America and the Asia & Pacific region contributing less, but roughly similar output.
Africa, the Arab States, and Latin America are, by contrast, small participants even though the SDGs are key concerns in these regions.
Research is driven by people. Some of the most influential researchers in driving SDG research are spread across subject areas due to their transdisciplinary knowledge; others show a concentrated depth of focus in one area.
It is not always the largest institutions that set the agenda and pace in a specialty; for example, the key players in Ecosystems Services and Adaptations for Sustainability include Stockholm University and Wageningen University.
Some clusters are growing at twice the average rate of increase in publications during 2015-18, such as Nutrition and Childhood Development.
Some research areas are showing slow growth compared to previous years, such as Ecotourism and Fair Trade.
The report identifies emerging research topics such as Childhood Cancer Incidence.
Two policy-related clusters are highlighted and explored in depth: Water Supply and Sanitation and Health and Healthcare of Indigenous Peoples. Finally, the activity of the United Kingdom in SDG research receives special attention, including a ranking of research areas in which the UK produces the greatest number of papers and the greatest share of its SDG papers.
NOTES TO EDITORS  *The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries – developed and developing – in a global partnership. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.

Brambles Continues Progress Towards its 2020 Sustainability Goals
SYDNEY — Brambles, the global supply-chain logistics company operating in more than 60 countries, primarily through the CHEP and IFCO brands, has published its Sustainability Review for the 2018 Financial Year (FY18). Pioneering a new way of reporting, this year Brambles has used The International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC)’s1 six capitals framework, grouped under: financial, manufactured, intellectual, human, social and relationship, and natural capital, to describe the different ways the Group creates value in the short, medium and long term.
Brambles’ #sustainability Review 2018 is out! Each year we are moving closer to our 2020 Sustainability Goals.
Brambles helps move more goods to more people, in more places than any other organisation on earth. The Group’s purpose is to connect people with life’s essentials, working with manufacturers, suppliers and retailers, overseeing the whole supply chain: from the farm to the factory, from the shop floor to the front door.
The Sustainability Review includes updates on CHEP and IFCO’s sustainability programme and its progress towards its 2020 Sustainability Goals. These goals are based on the company’s Better Business, Better Planet, Better Communities, sustainability programme and are closely aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Examples of Brambles’ achievements reported in the 2018 Sustainability Review include:
Better Business – Making customers’ supply chains more efficient and investing in a safe, inclusive work environment where our employees can develop.
Brambles operates a circular business model, specialising in sharing and reusing unit load equipment. Our 610 million assets are continuously in motion, across 60 countries. In FY18 customers’ use of CHEP and IFCO platforms saved 1.7 million trees, 2.6 million metric tonnes of CO2 emissions and 1.4 million metric tonnes of solid waste. Brambles also engaged on collaboration projects with over 240 customers to receiving the benefits of Brambles’ unique transport optimisation programmes which remove inefficiencies saving fuel and carbon emissions from the world’s supply chains.
To create a Better Workplace, Brambles is committed to achieving its goal of Zero Harm. The company made notable progress towards that goal with both the CHEP and IFCO business units improving their safety performance in FY18.
Better Planet – Reducing the environmental impact of Brambles’ own operations.
In FY18, 99.4% of the timber used by CHEP came from certified sources with 66.1% carrying complete Chain-of-Custody certification. Brambles also diverted 100% of its plastic waste from its largest managed sites and 89% of its wood waste from landfills. This includes recycling more than 18,600 tonnes of end-of-life plastic materials. In Europe, reclaimed plastic was recycled into new IFCO reusable plastic crates. Brambles operations also achieved a reduction in carbon emissions per unit to a FY18 accumulated figure of -15.6 % with more than 20% of the electricity it consumed coming from renewable sources.
Better Communities – Positively contributing to the communities in which Brambles operates.
Brambles continues its assistance for food rescue organisations, including a commitment to support the Food Bank Leadership Institute (FBLI). The FBLI is a professional development programme that helps nurture the Food Bank leaders of tomorrow. Brambles creates Better Communities through in-kind equipment donations, financial support and by facilitating volunteering opportunities for employees. All permanent Brambles, IFCO and CHEP employees have access to three days of paid volunteer leave every year. In total, Brambles’ FY18 community investments amounted to US$4,743,000, a 4% increase from FY17.
Brambles’ Head of Global Sustainability, Juan Jose Freijo, said: “following engagement with key stakeholders, we decided to adopt a more integrated method to communicate the unique ways Brambles creates value for customers, our communities and our employees. For example, we can show investors how our circular share and reuse business model maintains our products to their highest value for as long as possible while regenerating the key resources we depend on, and reutilising these materials at end-of-life”.
“Our commitment to sustainability is at the very heart of everything we do. Our pallets, crates and containers form the invisible backbone of the global supply chain. As pioneers of the sharing economy and thanks to our ‘share and reuse’ model, we created one of the world’s most sustainable logistics business. Together with our partners, we solve shared challenges from fighting food waste to protecting forests. That is why we can make a real contribution to a smarter, more sustainable future”.
On 2018 Brambles has been ranked amongst the top three performing companies in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) in the Commercial Services and Supplies industry category.
