My mother taking me to see Green Day when I was 16 and not only encouraging me to, but yelling with me along with the crowd as BJA and all of us chanted “NO TRUMP NO KKK NO FASCIST USA” was both a formative moment of my teenage years (you can be loud and angry and people will back you when facing against hatred) but also makes it so much harder for me to understand why she’s still married to my stepfather.

You’re going to teach your kid the foundations of being a leftist, raise them on 90’s punk music, renforce the belief that so long as it’s not hurting anyone nor calling for/allowing the harm of anyone especially for personal gain than other people’s lives and choices are their own business

And then turn around and stay married to a man who loves trump and DeSantis and Abbott and be transphobic/ableist and also be shocked when your kid ends up an angry queer leftist???
