15 OC Questions!
Since I was tagged twice by @rebelangelsims (thank you!!!) here is the second one!
_____
Kenji Okamoto
Are you named after anyone?
No. I think my mother just liked the name Kenji. If it’d been up to my father to name me, I probably would’ve been named Akira, after him. Honestly, I’m happy to be Kenji. I can’t imagine being Akira junior and going through life sharing a name with my father.
When was the last time you cried?
Recently, if you want to know. I cry a lot more than people might believe, but I usually do it secretly, because that's not really the image of myself that I want to present to most people. But, how could I not cry over my beautiful son Yuri lying in a hospital bed and looking so fragile that I was worried at one point whether he'd make it through that day? He's going to be all right, but that doesn't stop me from wanting to weep all over again whenever I think about it. Yuri and I haven't had the best relationship, but we've both made some progress toward reconciliation lately, and we've both cried a little over that, too.
Do you have kids?
Yes, my wife and I have three children. Our son Yuri is twenty-five, our older daughter Hana is twenty, and our younger daughter Shirayuki is ten. We’re also expecting our first grandchild soon, whom Rei and I will be raising as our own, due to some… unfortunate circumstances. So, I’ll soon be able to say we have four children. Our grandchild is a boy, and we’ve decided to call him Kinai.
Do you use sarcasm?
Not typically, no.
What’s the first thing you notice about people?
The first physical characteristic I notice about people is usually their eyes. A person's eyes can tell a lot about them. I also notice people's tone of voice, particularly when they're meeting me for the first time, or when I'm introducing them to someone else. First impressions matter a lot, and the way a person conducts themselves during a first encounter is something I always pay attention to.
What’s your eye colour?
Dark brown
Scary movies or happy endings?
I have no particular preference, and I'll easily watch both. I usually let Rei or Yuki choose the movie, so I'm more likely to watch films with a happy ending because that's what my wife and daughter like. I actually prefer watching documentaries and biopics rather than fictional stories. My preferred way to get my dose of fiction is from reading.
Any special talents?
My daughter Yuki says my special talent is baking. I'm not sure if it's a special talent, but I can sing quite well, and I play the piano. I've been doing both practically my entire life, as I started learning piano when I was four, and I think I was about seven when I began taking vocal training. As a matter of fact, it was my singing that led me to meet Rei. We were both performing in the same youth music festival, and she and her friends watched my performance. My voice obviously overshadowed my looks, because she later told me that she'd searched all over the venue afterwards to find "that nerdy-looking, overweight boy with the angelic voice" so she could introduce herself.
Where were you born?
Mt. Komorebi
What are your hobbies?
I don't have as much time to devote to hobbies as I'd like, but my favourite pastimes include music, photography, reading and gardening. I recently learned to paint and hang wallpaper, and I'll admit it was fun. I think I might like to improve my handiness and perhaps learn the basics of woodworking.
Have you any pets?
No, we don’t have any pets, although Shirayuki is constantly begging us to let her get a dog, and I may be at the point of giving in. I think she’s old enough and mature enough to take on that responsibility now, and if she needs any advice, she can always ask her brother-in-law. Victor is quite the animal person. I suspect there isn't much he doesn't know about dogs.
What sports do you play/have played?
I love to ski. Growing up with the mountain in our back yard, my brother and I and our friends were on skis almost as soon as we learned to walk. Other than that, I'm not particularly sporty. I enjoy swimming quite a lot and I like yoga.
How tall are you?
175cm
Favourite subject in school?
I always liked maths best. I was good in all my language classes as well, and enjoyed those, but there’s nothing like the satisfaction solving a difficult mathematical problem.
Dream job?
Well, it certainly isn't the one I have now, I can tell you that. I'm sure people think there's a lot of prestige and glamour in being the CEO of a multi-national electronics company, and there is, but it's an exceedingly difficult job and there's also an extreme amount of stress involved. If you need proof, I should not be this grey at the age of forty-seven!
I'm seriously considering taking a leave of absence while my father is still around and able to resume his old duties for a while. I think I need to reorganize my priorities. My family needs me far more than the company does right now, and with our Kinai soon to arrive, I think Rei will need my support at home.
If I could have any occupation I wanted, I think I might like to be a professional musician, or a photographer. Or perhaps I'd be a small-business entrepreneur. I could move to a tropical paradise like Sulani and sell t-shirts and souvenirs on the beach. Actually, that sounds like a goal for retirement
