if i were ever a published author and someone wrote fanfic of my works, i think i’d have no other alternative but to send them a gift basket & fall in love with them

#so i went down a rabbit hole onto rick riordan's website and basically he Does Not like it when people write fic #it's 'unsettling to see people write about his characters' hmmmm #i mean ultimately it's his opinion and people are gonna do what they want--i don't imagine he'd have the time to sue every fic writer on-- #every platform but still. kind of an old-fashioned take if you ask me #he said something on a different question that was like 'i think it's great if you want to write for percy's world for your own amusement-- #as long as you don't publish them (obviously that's a whole thing legally) or share them' #or share them? like online?? just say you don't want someone to write something better with xyz underdeveloped character and go lol #anyways ultimately i appreciate rick and all his works and efforts to have a more diverse cast of characters but sometimes (typically older) #published authors have bad (often a little uppity) takes on this kind of thing that will hopefully fade over time #anyways off to continue my pjo fic
