I’ve come to the conclusion that Ravenous is emotionally and thematically incoherent without the deleted scenes.
#because in my notes i am CONSTANTLY talking about them#and i don’t just mean one - i mean ALL of them#well… there’s two or three that don’t add a lot as far as i recall#but all the rest are CRUCIAL#and i’m glad they’re not in the movie proper because they Would make it feel bloated probably#but what i’m saying is that i don’t think i’d understand the movie at all if i didn’t know about the deleted scenes#if i could save just ONE to be added to the Movie Proper it would be the Slauson one for sure#which i think is actually two tiny snippets - but they’re BOTH necessary#i’ve made a post about that already#but YEAH idk… i can’t comment on just what’s in the final movie anymore bc i can’t Un-Know the deleted scenes#all the ‘necessary’ ones are completely canon in my mind#someday i’ll edit and post all of them like i did the Reich backstory one bc they are all very Important to me#haven’t rewatched them in awhile tho so i definitely have to do that for my notes!#ravenous 1999#also btw - i should say that this isn’t a dig at Antonia at all#based on her commentary track over the deleted scenes - she wasn’t responsible for a lot of them being cut#she did an INCREDIBLE UNREAL job under the circumstances#AND she personally fought to include the shot where Martha walks out at the end which is the ENTIRE FUCKING POINT#so yeah. Antonia Bird was an absolute hero for her work on this movie and i mean no disrespect to her whatsoever#Ravenous is great as-is - the deleted scenes just make it that much better is all i’m saying
