S.H.I.E.L.D. had been keeping tabs on her since she was in her early teens due to her father’s status in the agency. they knew she was a bright young girl and supported her education in hopes of someday using her cultivated knowledge as an asset. her usefulness proved helpful during “fury’s big week” when a mysterious relic was found in the middle of the desert near roswell, new mexico.

THOR (2011)   ›  “Fury’s Big Week”

NIGHT 3  — recruited & assigned to the 0-8-4 (“satellite crash”) in new mexico DAY 4  — arrives at shield crater base camp in roswell, nm. studies mjolnir (& jane foster’s confiscated research.) NIGHT 4  — further researching, interrupted when thor raids the crater base camp. coulson interrogates thor, kara is there behind the scenes feeding him information about the norse god. DAY 5  — battle at puente antigue, shield cleans up after fight. NIGHT 5  — shield collects the destroyer DAY 6  — debriefing; coulson announces agency wide re-focusing towards extra terrestrial defense.

ALL IN THE YEAR BETWEEN THOR AND THE AVENGERS: following the events in thor, kara was then began her training as a field agent.  she was assigned under agent alex depaul, her supervising officer. during this time she proved herself useful and climbed the ranks.

THE AVENGERS  ›  BATTLE OF NY, MAY 2, 2012

kara is on the helicarrier after the avengers capture loki. thor takes loki from shield custody. he eventually returns loki to the helicarrier, where he is then imprisoned within a cage designed to hold bruce banner. 

kara was already informed of fury’s intentions regarding the tesseract, aka the “phase 2” program to use the source to power advanced weaponry in response to the asgardian incident in new mexico. it is during an argument about fury’s intentions that clint barton (under loki’s control) and other soldiers working for loki attacked the helicarrier and crippled one of it’s engines.

after the battle of new york, kara escorts loki’s scepter to the iliad, where it is held in safe keeping in constant relocation around the world. meanwhile, it is noted that the tesseract was sent to asgard with loki. the scepter’s true location is classified information that very few agents know, due to lack of level clearance. agent palamas is then assigned primarily to the helicarrier to keep careful watch over the weapon.

THOR 2/AOS  › CANON S1E1-S1E15 In theory, kara was on the Iliad until the coup and hydra takes over. see notes for ca:tws.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER takes place just before her capture by hydra. hydra takes over during this movie. agent alex depaul turns out to be a mole for hydra, and betrayed her and the rest of shield when he allowed hydra agents aboard the Iliad just before it was overthrown. alongside other loyal agents fighting for their cause, she helped take back the ship, protecting its assets and one particularly damning weapon hidden in its basement.

AGENTS OF SHIELD (S1E16-22) taken hostage by hydra from her shield safehouse. follows most of aos canon.

AGENTS OF SHIELD (S2E1-19) canon events, with my divergent boundary lines.  BEYOND... kara wants nothing to do with shield in most cases, although I do have a few instances where she joins coulson’s team .
