𝐑𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐑 𝐁𝐎𝐀𝐓𝐒 weren't as terrible as ocean boats, but nonetheless he was hardly a fan. still, this boat was a gambling den, && he intended to make good use of it. he'd been inclined to think his interaction with the water would be nonexistent once boarded, && so soothed himself there was nothing to worry about. acquiring gold to keep him going for the next few weeks was more important than fretting about being thrown overboard.
a mistake on his part, apparently.
his reputation doesn't always precede him, but it does so often catch up to him. perhaps he ought to be grateful the intent wasn't to kill him or otherwise hold him hostage to turn in for a bounty 'pon next docking. but, of course, when you can't swim, being grabbed to throw overboard does, in fact, count as a death sentence. he just hopes he can focus well enough while losing oxygen to shift.
trying to steel himself to stay calm or at least contain his panic, he misses most of the jeers && words spoken in raucous tones. overboard he went, quick to sink just as he's always been with a deep inhale that would hopefully spare him at least a minute or two. given it was evening, the shine of his magic is apparent as he pats himself for his cards in desperate movement, thumbing through the deck for that familiar purple. movement catches eye, however, && distractedly he looks up in a brief moment — –
&& oh, cursed impulse compels him to scream , the sound unheard as air is wasted as he finds himself face to face with — something? SOMEONE?
he is going to die, he thinks, either by drowning or whatever this was.
