watching the ToB/smaller races is great because you get to see just how dull the WT kits are compared to some pro/conti teams. these two especially; flanders-baloise and trinity racing

although trinity aren't wearing their normal kit (they have a ToB special that's not quite as good)

Les Merckx 525 de Team Flanders-Baloise 2024

L'équipe belge Flanders-Baloise utilise toujours les Eddy Merckx 525. Certains aux couleurs Panasonic, la fameuse finition Retrosonic. Nostalgie quand tu nous tiens... Entre le Team Flanders-Baloise et Eddy Merckx c'est une collaboration qui dure depuis des décennies et en 2024 on retrouve les 525 Disc aux couleurs habituelles mais aussi en finition Retrosonic. En début d'année il y avait quelques vélos bleus et blancs dans l'effectif, supplanteront-ils les vélos noirs cette saison ou resteront-ils l'exception ? Côté montage le vélo du Team Flanders-Baloise ne sort pas des sentiers battus. Il est équipé d'un groupe Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 (transmission, pédales et capteur de puissance), associé aux roues FFWD Riot 44 en version boyau. Car l'équipe reste l'une des dernières utilisatrices de ce type de pneumatiques et monte donc des boyaux Vittoria Corsa. Le guidon est un Deda Elementi Alanera, la selle une Italia Flite ou SLR Boost et le GPS un Garmin. On pourra voir à l'œuvre les Eddy Merckx 525 du Team Flanders-Baloise sur les Flandriennes 2024 bien sûr. 50cm:Direct Energie, Corendon-Circus highlight seven wildcards at 2019 Tour of Flanders

Orgnaisers of the Tour of Flanders announced Wednesday the seven wildcard teams that will take part in the Belgian Monument on April 7. Defending champion Niki Terpstra’s Direct Energie team will be on the start line along with six other wildcard invitees: Corendon-Circus, Sport Vlaanderen-Baloise, Wanty-Gobert, Cofidis, Solutions Credits, Vital Concept-B&B Hotels and Roompot-Charles.

"The wildcard invitations given out in 2019 will see one of the strongest lineups of Pro Continental teams to date, with these teams all thoroughly prepared and eager to perform at the Tour of Flanders in April," said Scott Sunderland, the Flanders Classics’ general race director, in a press release.

Terpstra won last year's Tour of Flanders while racing for Quick-Step Floors (now Deceuninck-QuickStep). The Belgian team will be chasing a third consecutive victory after Philippe Gilbert won in 2017, but not with Terpstra, who signed with Direct Energie for 2019 and 2020.

"With last year's winner Niki Terpstra leading his new team, Direct Energie, he will be on the hunt to make it back-to-back wins," said Sunderland. "Terpstra's younger fellow Dutch rider Mathieu van der Poel (Corendon-Circus), the freshly crowned world champion cyclo-cross star, will be wanting to make history himself by following in the footsteps of his father Adrie, winner of the 1986 Tour of Flanders."

Van der Poel’s Corendon-Circus team stepped up to the Pro Continental level this year, which gave the team a shot at wildcard invitations to some of the biggest races on the WorldTour. He will compete in a Spring Classics campaign with a stated goal of competing in Tour of Flanders, Gent-Wevelgem and Amstel Gold Race.

Van der Poel’s father, Adrie van der Poel, won the 1986 edition of the Tour of Flanders, and his son will no doubt want to secure the same achievement. Corendon-Circus have also signed Stijn Devolder, a two-time winner of Tour of Flanders in 2008 and 2009.

50cm:Gent-Wevelgem wildcard invitation clears the way for Mathieu van der Poel

The organisers of Gent-Wevelgem, Flanders Classics, invited seven wildcard teams to compete in the March 31 race alongside the 18 WorldTour teams, confirming the inclusion of the Corendon-Circus squad of new cyclo-cross world champion Mathieu van der Poel.

Last week, Flanders Classics named Corendon-Circus alongside Sport Vlaanderen-Baloise, Wanty-Gobert, Wallonie Bruxelles, Direct Energie, Cofidis, Solutions Crédits and Roompot-Charles for Omloop het Nieuwsblad. The same teams earned wildcard spots for Gent-Wevelgem.

Flanders Classics announced in December that Van der Poel would compete in Gent-Wevelgem, Dwars Door Vlaanderen, the Tour of Flanders and the Brabantse Pijl, so the inclusion of the newly-upgraded Pro Continental team comes as no surprise.

Expecations for Van der Poel are high after the stand-out performance of his rival Wout van Aert in the 2018 Tour of Flanders. After surpassing father Adrie van der Poel's cyclo-cross palmares as double world champion, Mathieu van der Poel was asked by Sporza if he would next try to match his father by winning the Tour of Flanders.

"That would be nice, but right now it's a bit too high a level," Mathieu van der Poel said after beating Van Aert to the rainbow jersey on Sunday in Bogense, Denmark. "The world title makes it easier to work towards the Classics," he added, but said he would not limit himself to only racing road.

Despite its name, Gent-Wevelgem starts in nearby Deinze, meandering through West Flanders and into France and back, taking in 10 climbs and three sections of dirt roads (Plugstreets) over 251.5km before the finish in Wevelgem.
