grgrhgahahh i wanna read more pokespe but i cant do it on my phone and im not unpacking my stuff until the morning

#this is not a real issue i am plenty entertained rn and also am going to be going #to bed soon anyways. i just am rlly in pksp mood #im in a pkmn mood in general lol ive been reading reguri fics as previously stated #but also i got back into legends arceus earlier today which i havent played in TWO YEARS. which is crazy #and man i fucking loveee playing pkmn i rlly hope they make the next #mainline game not half baked. i didnt get scarlet and violet bcuz of that :( #i had a playthrough of it in the bg but. its not the same #it makes me sad that im not up to date like i dont know any of the new #pokemon i dont know anything about SV's region or characters or story #i want to though. maybe ill get around to actually sitting down and watching a playthrough at some point #i also want to get caught up with pokespe in my reread so my first #experience w SV might be thru spe. which is weird to think about #thats never been the case for me with a pkmn game before #i mean. in terms of just being familiar w the game not playing it myself #i have not played every mainline pkmn game lol #my first one was pokemon pearl. which i never beat. but after that i #got alpha sapphire which i was CRAZYYYY obsessed with. i played that game to the bone til there was #literally nothing left to do other than grind to lvl 100 for the hell of it #pokemon moon is INCREDIBLY special to me for a number of reasons #mainly that it was my first pkmn game that i ANTICIPATED. i remember watching the trailers #over and over. every time they dropped new info i was eating it up. i remember when the starters final evos #were finally revealed i was so excited. and ofc the INSANITY that was the red and blue reveal. good times #but yes i similarly played the shit out of moon til there was nothing left to do. and it was the first one #where i was INCREDIBLY invested in the story. i cared and still care about the alola casrt #soooooo much they were literallyyy my friends. i drew them sooo much. and ofc lillie was one of my #most specialest little blorbos ever. i was in LOVE with her as a kid. it was serious #anyways and then i played pokemon sword which i also love dearly. i beat the main game but i #actually still havent finished the dlc.... but i also care very deeply about the galar cast and drew them a lot as well #and thats all not mentioning from my years long obsession with pokespe lol. but anyways yes #serena.txt

personally i think the overworld style for the sinnoh remake looks cute. i like the chibi look.... and the actual battle scenes we saw looked.... fine i guess..... but its obvious imo that they need to work on the lighting cause if they just tweaked the lighting itd do wonders on the lets go textures/models theyre obviously using

pokemon legends arceus looks cool too but from what we were shown the overworld looks so barren 😭 thats basically my thoughts on that (but finally having a game dedicated to arceus is fucking epic ive been dreaming of this for years)

also.... the fact that game freak is finally outsourcing a mainline game to another company is good! it means less work for the dev teams (since they have their teams split into 2, and every year the teams apparently switch on who works on pkmn and who works on everything else to prevent burnout. dont even get me started on that)... but then if you actually look into the company they outsourced too, ilca (i love computer art) theyve never actually.... made a game before lol

their portfolio shows theyve worked on a few games like nier automata and yakuza 0, but they just do 3d graphics, not ACTUALLY making games...? which, if theyre doing a 1:1 remake (seemingly, at least, from the trailer) it wouldnt be AS difficult, and a decent start, but... its certainly a choice to depend on a company thats never developed a game with developing your remake that ppl have been asking for for a long time, even if they have something to work off of. altho lets be real its pokemon so it could literally be a piece of garbage in a switch case on people would still buy it lmao

under cut for pkmn sw/sh spoilers. just some things ive been thinking about 

so like. as much as i LOVE leon and the gym leaders and the new gen in sw/sh and how people in the stadiums congratulate you after you win matches the story is like... so SEVERELY lacking. i feel like the stuff with rose just comes out of NOWHERE and like. is really confusing ?? like he wants to put the whole ass region in mortal danger just so they wont ?? run out of energy ?? but its not like at any point during the game it was mentioned that theyre actually running out of energy or in danger of it, at least not for at least a thousand years, not even HE mentions anything like that afaik, unless it was or he did and i just missed it somehow. but like. if that had been a plot point and an Important one, shouldnt they have ?? mentioned it ?? or made it so if they did mention it it wasnt something you could ?? miss ?? and it was really unclear whether or not oleana was manipulating him INTO doing this or if she was just one of his pawns, because the dynamic they had the whole game a la miss bellum and the mayor of townsville just SHIFTS right at the end for ?? no reason ?? and that whole scene where leon is supposed to meet you for dinner but he meets with the chairman instead and you have to find the key to the lift to go get him plays out like he was straight up KIDNAPPED and being TORTURED or something but like ?? the minute you both get there he finishes the weird conversation he was having with the chairman and just?? leaves with you of his own free will ?? so why in fucks name did we have to rush over and go get him like he was in some sort of danger ?? and the bede plotline was really weird too, like it would have been clever if the chairman disowned them and they started their own evil organization but then they just get ?? immediately taken in by opal ?? and i guess become the new ballonlea gym leader ?? even though thats a fairy gym and most of their original team was all psychic types ?? all because they ?? wear pink ?? and like after you hear the chairman “turned himself in” but like ?? what did they do to him ?? did he go to jail ?? does pokemon HAVE jail ?? team rocket didnt go to jail, archie and maxie didnt go to jail, i dont even think ghetsis or n went to jail, and they all did equivalent or MUCH WORSE things than rose! did they just fire him ?? so whos the chairman now ?? most of the important shit happened offscreen while people told you not to worry about it and just focus on your gym challenge and it didnt have the GRAND SCALE of being a HERO and saving the REGION that all the games before it did, and while were AT IT team yell being the “”evil”” team of this region doesnt really work AT ALL. like yeah, team skull was goofy and did stupid bullshit and were comic relief, BUT they also werent the ONLY villains in sumo/usum because they just werent threatening and didnt have lofty goals for the most part. thats why the aether foundation was in those games, to present a real turnabout late stage villain that posed an actual THREAT. i feel like they tried to replicate the pattern of team skull / aether foundation with team yell / rose, but since they have nothing to DO with each other and rose has no goals that make sense ANYWAY it just falls FLAT 

and thats the way i would describe the experience in general, as just FLAT as far as the story goes. it felt like a half finished paint-by-numbers of a pokemon game instead of a fully thought out title. none of the towns have anything to do in them besides beat the gyms and leave because thats where the focus is, on the gameplay and not on WHY youre playing the game to begin with, which is to immerse yourself in the fantasy of being in this world and being a HERO and having an ADVENTURE!! but i didnt feel like i was having an adventure, i felt like i was being led around by the nose like the game thought i was an idiot until it was time to easily decimate the next gym because all my pokemon were over leveled as HELL and i could easily sweep people even when they werent 

off topic but i also got bored of the camping system rather early, i think they should have combined it with some form of pokemon refresh so that you could still pet your pokemon and bond with them that way because i didnt camp for most of the game until the very end to get the bond with my pokemon more and get the full benefits of that. the curry minigame is repetitive and i feel like you need a premade GUIDE to be able to know what youre doing in it because youll never get beyond bronze class just fucking around 

all in all i really hope this isnt the direction they keep going in with this franchise because while there were definitely things i like and the game LOOKS amazing and the new gen is a lot more tolerable than i imagined, all in all it feels like a case of style over substance, and im sure somebody has said all this stuff before already but like. it just makes me really Sad.

despite not having much story and the booring-est gym challenge, i really liked kabu! he had a lot of character, with his pokemon team and the lil cutsceen you get with him, like when you bump into him in the coal mine and the send off and the really surprising to me battle animation after he was like extra upright serious? loved all that! i want to play off more on it, so in this nuzlocke 

hes an heir to the coal mines, like his family long time before he was born bought up them all , he like stupid wealthy but had no interest in doing anything business and coal related, but out of a mixture of both fear and respect for his family, he essentially waited for them to knock off to pursuit a career in professional pkmn battling so he started along in his 30s rather than 18 like most trainers in galar do (the trainers are all going to be at least 18 in this thing its so silly you spend a literal hour fighting preschoolers dggggf when has there Ever been that many!!) 

he sold the coal titles over to the government’s transportation sector (so like the trains)(also there are rumours going around about how kabu’s family’s company and rose’s company are connected in some way, same goes for the transportation sector, its no secret the chairman has an energy company tho its that alternative energy), so he doesnt have to bother with it, and in return they sponsor him completely, covering any needs he has so he never has to do anything but train with his pkmn

 he enjoys traveling and studying under pkmn master in other regions, because of this he has many luxury pokemon from other parts of the world! another thing that reflect his multi-regional studies is his gym quest

( a part of me thinks a mining cart mini game would be fun and im bummed out there wasnt one in game but i think it would be more in character if there was just a no frills stair case leading further into the earth, with a trainer under kabu's tutilage standing in the way)

(championship cup thingy: tar shot, ancient power, burn up, explosion) (note: the order of pkmn he sends out is in verse this time so coalsorra last! this is the one he also gigamaxes or w/e, it uses its special one for the big match!)

( like i think kabu, opal and piers are the only characters where it makes sense that they'd have like Gym Trainers under them cause the Lore is like these are sports atheletes whose lively hoods are all wrapped up in pr with challengers threatening to take that from them like,,,why would the younger ones train anyone? like thats silly)

(ninetales has some LAME ASS abilities so kabu’s extra rare ninetales has storm drain cause wouldnt that fuck you up? like oh okay sorry ma’am wont use water gun anymore have a nice night, probs like vulpixs that live in urban areas of like unova)

(ability: storm drain, moves:spite, will-o-wisp, grudge, mystic fire)

(the cup: spite, mystic fire, grudge, fire blast)

(in kabu's case its because thats how its done in eastern regions and its both a nod to his ethnic heritage (rather than being from another region straight up more like his moms family is, giving him more connections to the plot) and to his abroad training) 

(ability: flash fire, moves: extreme speed, flame wheel, retaliate,fire blitz)

(cup update: extreme speed, fire blitz, wild charge, double-edge)

(each gym trainer has one pkmn, each level you go down gets hotter which boosts fire moves and reduces damage to water, ice, grass and normal, something like its warm, its hot, its very hot! with very hot having a chance to inflict burn on any pkmn not part fire type)

(after you finish up with very hot, you enter kabu's stadium, which is a platform surrounded by lava and the terrain is like steaming with coal mounds, theres a safe place for you to stand but not much protection else wise, also ive been imaging like a protective thin see through barrier around the crowd thats like protects them from the battle, sometimes it does crack and strain but its never broken before, mr mimes probs put them up)

(ability: speed boost, moves: double kick, dual chop, dynamic punch, mega kick)

(cup update: it evos into the mega form cause i prefer the design and it matches kabu’s motif! in verse i think the mega forms will be treated like rare alt forms you can get when you have pkmn with the hidden abilites so you dont need the z stone to have them and theyre perma as an evo, moves: blaze kick, sky upper cut, dual chop, brave bird)

(any pokemon that isnt fire or have levitate take damage on the terrain each turn thats equivalent to ember kinda like hail or sandstorm but for fire-type, the air being very hot also has a chance of inflicting burn, i have more nit and grit about like air and fire terrian but i think ill save it for when i get to that!)

(ability: flame body, moves: wrap, bug bite, fire fang, coil) (just like In The Game he makes this cutie extra big and uses that special attack, i keep picturing it like a bonus attack you pick when you enlarge them rather than what it actually is, im sure the hypothetical battle emulator will deal with that)

(cup update: this sweet baby goes first! moves: wrap, bug bite, lunge, fire lash)
