Got inaturalist and looked at my hometown (pop about 800, pretty biodiverse). Of the 7 vertebrate observations, 2 were roadkill. One was the flock of wild turkeys which has been tormenting our town for over a decade. 2 were common magpies (one of these was also roadkill). The other 3 were gopher snakes. I have seen some truly fascinating animals in this town inclusing bobcats, mountain lions, foxes, beaver, otters, and more. I have seen at least 3 species of snakes that are not a gopher snake. There is an incredible diversity of wild birds and there are more red-winged blackbirds than you can count. So that the recordings are made up of a flock of turkeys and dead animals is baffling and hilarious.
