Stereotypes are definitely something that people should be mindful of to make sure they aren't being mocking or dehumanizing towards minorities, but like, at this point I'm just like "as long as thats not your only character from the minority or you arent mocking them then whatever" towards a good amount of them like idk mean lesbian characters compared to "This character is the most oppressed man to ever exist because he has a close male friend and everyone thinks he's gay but he's NOT :( He has a wife and kids why cant you just let men have FRIENDS!!!"

#Iits nuanced. im not saying they dont matter or arent harmful im saying that you should be mindful but not dismissive #cause like. people who fit the stereotype exist irl so the issue is with the dehumanization #autistic characters that get put on a literal leash and treated like an infant and get treated as laughingstocks for it #is very very different tonally to me than an autistic character that does need extra care and help and thats treated with respect #was reading abt the gay movement in the 1950s and how like middle class white gay men decided that to ''save their image'' #then they should completely shun and disregard flamboyant gay men who were largely working class #so feminine gay men were tossed to the side and mocked by the middle class gay men in an effort to be more palatable #and while that was motivated by the ''masculinity decline panic'' after ww2 it still sticks with me #i dont think refusing to acknowledge that feminine gay men or masculine lesbians or autistic aces exist is doing anyone any good #it just creates divide and harms the people who need that sense of community #tldr think people just need to be more mindful when it comes to this stuff and the black and white approach doesnt help anyone #echoed voice
