y'know something that's hilarious to me?? apprentice maul constantly questions his purpose in sidious' big plan. he longs to know his role. longs to prove himself worthy of fulfilling it and perhaps,, just maybe,,,, getting to know what it is. he questions it so much that (seer that he is) he has a dream (a vision) where he faces himself. they fight but ultimately, his doppelganger wins and cuts him in half. at the waist. and maul took this to mean that he has to use his full power rather than holding back like he's been doing (under sidious' instruction) instead of an extremely foreboding glimpse of his future (yes, obi-wan cuts him in half but really it's his own cockiness that causes it. had he just killed obi-wan rather than mocking him then he would have survived).

but the vision answers his question. he has no role in sidious' plan.
