obsessed with thinking abt young leif and bertbert and the song problems by mother mother.
straight off the intro it’s “you and me we’re not the same/I am a sinner you are a saint” <- mostly from the perspective of leif, it just encapsulates the entire series imo. he meets bertbert. they’re the same. they’re not the same. he’s a sinner. he saved his planet (in the back of his mind he betrayed it - committing the ultimate sin in the eyes of humanity/himself; it doesn’t matter. he defines himself by it constantly.) she’s a saint. she comes from a planet that is literally a utopia. she’s trying to find purpose in the world and align the world to her good moral values and meets someone who’s as smart as her and understands her on a level she can’t find anywhere else (her primary friend for years; she’d never admit it). she hates him and loves him and they both know they have a part of themselves in each other.
“I’ve found love in the strangest place…I say I’m gonna stage a great escape” <- finds bertbert and verge; leif always escapes/leaves/says he’s going to leave but does he really(?)
“let loose a love all pent up and painfully out of place” <- leif esp in ep 8 with his father. always painfully out of place and nowhere to put his love for the world or his family that shunned who he was.
“doo doo doo, I’m a loser, a disgrace/You’re a beauty, a luminary, in my face” <- playful aspect of the song. I think leif plays that part of their dynamic off as a joke but knows it’s painfully true with bert bert. he is who he is but he might still internalize it. or at least from an audience perspective, there’s an idolization of what berts does and how much he admires her and her work esp from how she’s described as a character. she’s constantly working towards a beacon of truth and justice. she’s a beauty. she’s a luminary. she’s literally always in his face. he’s a loser, a disgrace.
“I’ve got a lot, not a lot, I gotta lot less than a lot/I’ve got problems” they both have problems. they both try to play off that they don’t. they both have a lot of problems.
ending it w the first verse but also saying the whole vibe of the song is very Them. chaotic alt rock and fun melodies harmonizing. also features loud yelling with sweet almost nostalgic melodies.

longpost on why capitalism is Unnecessary™
“but communism would never work because without capitalism, nobody will have the motivation to work! human beings are inherently greedy and lazy! capitalism gives us morale to work hard, because the harder we work, the higher up on the chain we get!”
haha lol like, ok, first of all, the idea of hard work always paying off is completely, undeniably False ??? you think that only the .01% worked hard, and that’s why they’re rich? just because of some hardwork???? that the minimum wage laborers dont work just as hard, if not infinitely harder than them for way longer hours ?????? that folks who work their entire life just to stay afloat and be able to afford basic life necessities just didn’t “work hard enough” & that’s why they’re poor????? capitalists always forget that such a goddamn high percentage of rich people only have all their money because of inheritance or just a few strokes of luck & random opportunity !!!!! the concept of “”hardwork”” is a damn straight illusion lol !!!!
its an illusion that changes how people think - sure - but is this really ever in a good way?? it gets into our heads n forces us to be greedy, but only because we have to be !!! we have to be greedy in capitalism to survive, and all of us !!!!!! in some form or fashion !!!! are taught to glorify greed !!!!! that having so much more than we need, complete excessive luxury is so Commendable, & all Because theres so many people below us !!!! that we must be Better Off than everyone else !!!!!! that having a mansion w/ 20 cars n 3 pools while everyone else works for you is some Beautiful Dream !!!! this is Taught & Learned, & not innate !!!!! being rich is glorified from the very moment you start understanding the meaning !!!!!!
greed is not innate. it is not a part of us when we are born. it is developed. it is grown & cultivated when we’re told time & time again that to be rich is to be a god, that we must work to survive !!
but !!!
if !!! if we were to tell people from a very young age that “you don’t have to worry about survival, just do the very best you can at your job. it is for the benefit of you and everyone around you. you are making a positive change with all the work you contribute.” they turn out to be much different people !!!
instead of the mindset of “oh, this work is just to break even; this work is just to survive!” which produces lack-luster work and a jaded attitude, when we’re taught to work for the Greater Good !!! we can feel a Connection with what we do !!!! instead of just doing things for their necessity, we can do things meaningfully !!!!! we can actually do the things we want to, the things that matter to us !!! because we aren’t so held up by the whole “oh, i need to pick my job based on my survival, if i dont take x job i wont have enough money to pay bills and i wont have any place to live” thing !!!!! we instead move to the “oh, this is something im really interested in, and by doing this work i am helping out my community, and we can all benefit from this; i am working for the good of everyone” thing !!!
“oh, but that’ll never work! no intrinsic motivation! we only care about money!”
no.
the only reason why we care about money is because we’re taught to care about money. because we are taught to make it our #1 motivation. because after years and years of capitalistic propaganda, it ingrains itself in us.
of course - we can still choose to change, if we want. it’s difficult, but it is possible to go against this. and one little glimpse at an example is the so-called “starving artists”??? artists who pursue their heart and do what they want, even though most of them struggle to meet ends month-to-month - because they are doing what they’re passionate about & they want to share their art to others who wish to view it ???? people who work so hard on what they care about, even if it doesn’t provide them w/ proportionately great income????? & artists are definitely not the only example, either - there’s writers, theatre actors, cosmetologists, cooks/bakers, etc.etc.;;
but the whole point of this is - bc i wanna wrap everything up as quick as possible, so as not to Drag it out even longer,
tl;dr greed is not innate. when people are taught to work for the collective good in a field they’re passionate about, their motivation shifts and they can work just as hard, if not much harder than if they were just chasing after the illusion of “rewarding hardwork”
