“Now, the legend evolves”
From Megumi Han’s blog.
August 1.
It’s been twenty-two years since that day in summer.
Digimon Adventure.
Nothing has changed since then.
My feelings towards that series will not change at all.
Wait, no.
More like, they’re continuing to evolve.
Just like their adventure.
Ever since I started doing my work as a voice actor, I felt like there was something urgently important about me continuing.
“Continuing” in the sense of studying, learning, anything.
But I haven’t studied or learned anything, I haven’t done anything.
Because of that, “continuing to do what I like” was the only thing left.
Digimon is one of these things.
Courage, love, friendship, knowledge, purity, honesty, hope, and light --
It taught me many things.
It gave me many things.
From the time we met them, until now.
I wonder how much it’s changed my life so far?
And so, twelve years after I began to foster those feelings.
I got my first jobs as a series regular.
Out of those two, one of them was a Digimon series.
Digimon Xros Wars: The Young Hunters Who Leapt Through Time.
Airu Suzaki.
With her partner Digimon, Opossummon.
It was like a dream.
At the end of the series, the protagonists of the prior series and their partner Digimon appeared...
After 12 years, I was able to be in the same series as them...
It really was like a dream.
At the launch party, I met the director of Digimon Adventure, Hiroyuki Kakudou-san.
And I couldn’t have even possibly dreamed of what ended up happening after this meeting.
The PSP game, Digimon Adventure.
Takeru Takaishi.
With his partner Digimon, Patamon.
Now it really is the aftermath of an infinite dream.
From the time I was a child, when I came to know Digimon, and everything up until this day...
Thank you very much.
I really want to appreciate all the good things, and all the things on the other side.
If even one thing had been different during that time, I don’t think I’d be here now.
Of course, there were tons of things I felt, but in any case, in gratitude for being allowed to voice Takeru, and for everything up until that point, I voiced him with that gratitude and respect in my heart.
It’s a work that I want to see more people have their hearts touched by, so if you have the opportunity, please take a look at it.
This game has, on top of the original series and the story of Our War Game!, a number of additional stories packed into it.
So I went home and took out a worn-out video and looked over it. ←
During recording, the kids had all sorts of dialogue, and one of the lines was a "get ready!" from the voice of Takeru's big bro, Yamato.
I cried. ←
Later, the first time I met Kazama-san on-site, we talked a bit about the brothers.
Heheheh. ←
Continuing on this Digimon thread...
The PSP game, Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth.
Nokia Shiramine.
With her partner Digimon, Agumon and Gabumon.
What a luxury. That kind of partner Digimon. What a luxury. ←
The lines during the part when they became Omegamon, that was all me. ←
There’s more coming for this series, with Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth: Hacker’s Memory, so...
The adventure is still evolving.
Finally, I ended up becoming one of my beloved Digimon itself.
The PSP game, Digimon World: Next Order.
Kuzuhamon.
I’m still evolving, too. (Or so I hope.) ←
I was writing this post completely in seriousness up until halfway.
But I couldn’t resist poking my own words with arrows.
I’m very sorry. ←
Since we’re all tired of it now, the last (←) is that I really wanted to be a Chosen Child.
I’ll stop embarrassing myself now.
(link to photo)
I still remember that, even now.
They were having a special attraction at the Tokyo Tower in summer.
They were making the photos into phone cards.
Tokyo Tower is really hot!!
Even though DeathMeramon wasn’t there. ←
The situation described above regarding the Digimon Adventure PSP game refers to Han's casting as Takeru in light of the fact the original voice actress, Hiroko Konishi, had retired from voice acting in 2002. Director Kakudou testifies that part of the reason he’d casted her was because she’d been that much of a fan.
Cyber Sleuth and Next Order are actually Vita/PS4 games as of this writing, but they’re erroneously written as PSP on the blog.
