#cexf #that show was very unique for how honest it was about the negative side of mental health & how ugly it is #usually mental health pirtrayals are either ‘ooh mental illness evil’ & literally terrible. or theyre super romanticized ‘love makes you #cured’ or ‘mental illness makes you unique & special & deep’ or ‘mental illness is your bitersweet muse’ with is also literally awful & the #absolute worst. really mental illness is like ‘wow this fucking /sucks/ & /no one/ seems to get whats going on inside my being at all times #or know how to help me & i am brokenhearted & terrified & frustrated & utterly spent #The Darkness is the only time ive ever seen someone in fiction actually talk about the /super/ fucked up way when you get really mental ill #it often becomes what you see as /you/. Like you will be boring without it. its how you know how to exist now & at least with it you have #one small excuse for all the shit that is too much to deal with. It latches onto your brain like a parasite & convinces you it is what makes #you special & is a huge chunk of your identity & makes you afraid people wont support you anymore if you lose it. and its /not/ pretty. its #not. its not people bejng shitty & selfish. if it sounds like that its because u havent been there. its a parasite. it physically changes #how your brain works & its so scary. and you cant ever talk to people about that side of it because you /know/ how awful it sounds & that #you can’t possibly explain it in a way that would be forgivable to someone else. so you dont #I was so blown away by that song specifically. kudos to that show for it #crazy ex-girlfriend #crazy ex girlfriend
