Other Collaborations - Emma Nica and Val Kuklowsky.
An element of collaboration which has become more clear to me through to model of Procedural Blending is the “blend filter”. Previously I had been describing this as the interaction between mine and other peoples cultural and spacial surroundings, attempting to define a relationship between mind and matter that influenced other people and the resultant art. “Blend filter” and “blend node”, however, captures this perfectly, and so I will use this model to explain the next two pieces.
Of particular interest when collaborating with artists involved with visual arts is that the resultant output as a result of our interacting blend filters to create blend nodes. Rather than just occupying the sonic realm, an audio-visual experience seems to allow for a more intricate blend field. In Emma’s case, her exploration of issues with her own mental health, her identity and using the visual medium of dance to embody this is fascinating to me. Dance is not something I have been to involved with as a form of expression, and body language is of course a huge element of how we communicate, and adds a whole new realm of inputs and elements to out intersection of blend lines.
That being said, the sonic can and has been explored thoroughly as a stand alone art form. Another project I am taken part in is Val Kuklowsky’ This is the Frequency. My position in this piece is very different to anything I have experienced. The project is a radio film, which is in most part a finished project, spanning 2 hours with very small parts up for perfection. I see this as more servicing or fixing the remaining elements of a project, rather than a collaboration. This could be imagined as a huge blend field, where I throw a blend line towards a small section of it, rather than feeling like my blend line is inter-sectioning with other bled lines to create something. It feels a bit like filling in the holes of something huge that is already there. The element that felt most like collaboration, however, was working with Jacob Harris (pictured multiple times below) on the “fixing” of the already existing project.
For copyright reasons, I cannot put any of this project up.

“The Frequency”proposal
(Project 2)
Our course has been proposed to work on a 90 minute audio drama called “The Frequency” by Hollywood sound supervisor Val Kuklowsky and Hollywood writer Simon Moore. It is based on Bryan Ellis’s true story of failing to record his long awaited album, and the journey he goes through during that time.
During the class, we first heard the first 45 minutes to then give us time to take in and examine all that was heard, consequently the other 45 minutes. I knew that we were going to be able to choose on what we wanted to work on, so through out the listening I could not stop thinking about how it would be to work on the foley.  I have always had interest for foley, but I need more experience, so I knew that this would be a great opportunity to work on a full 90 min piece. It is a big challenge, and also as it is does not posses image, I think that foley plays a great part, as it is key into understanding who the characters are, where they are and what they are doing. I guess in a subtle way it could possibly replace the need for image. Though it is all to be discovered, and I am looking forward to seeing the learning outcomes.
