I liked this part too much to not post it here. They’re talking about the classification of the creatures:

"If there are ghosts, they would fall under our jurisdiction, but we can't say for sure if they exist. Usually, we don't classify subjects as well-known monsters of myth. It helps avoid confusion."

"I'm confused."

Simon sighed, "If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, then it is a terrestrial creature of identifiable origin and biological construction. If you call it a duck, you might get attached."

"Believe it or not," Vale said, "Attachment is a serious issue here. Many dangerous creatures that threaten our safety manage to look and act like harmless animals or objects. If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, watch out because it might be that horrible goose lady that curses people."
